Your argument is flawed, we haven't won the league.

yes you started the thread and said anything they did would be devalued.
and as has been said. that is the view of a small number of bitter and twisted people. sensible folk take a differn't view. if you wanted to start a thread saying a lack of weds/thurs night football helped lpool get where they are today some people might have had a differnt response. BUT YOU DIDNT |
|
By:
That is exactly the main point as to why it is devalued ,the lack of European competition improved Liverpools showing ask Rodgers,Dalglish,Benitez and Gerrard it was probably decisive.
Dont listen to me listen to Liverpool legends ,I believe it devalues the achivement because of zeez facts,THAT IS THE ARGUMENT,you believe Liverpools non qualification for Europe was not decisive ,that is your opinion, not for the first time you are miles off. It probably was decisive and therefore devalues the achievement in my opinion. you know with our arguments about Mikel that I am usually right on these things ![]() |

It helped them, no doubt about it. Playing in the Europa Cup - which is what they would have played in had they been slightly better last year - is an absolute disaster for a club in terms of its League aspirations. I couldn't tell you the stats for any other club than Spurs, but our record after Europa Cup games makes grim reading.
It is lightly churlish however to claim that their triumph will be devalued. The flipside of the lack of travel and fresher legs is the fact that they have been competing against players who have learnt their trade at the highest level footballers in Europe can ply - of the current Liverpool team, how many have enjoyed any success in Europe? Gerrard certainly, but who else? When people look back on this season in years to come, sure there will be people who remember they didn't play in Europe, but mostly people will think how on Earth did they get from nowhere one season to Champions the next? They will rightly conclude that the main reason, as always in football, was simple: They were the best team, with the best manager. |

See a Spurs fan knows how those Thursday nights fook you up.
Liverpool avoided that . |

hunter; you're right i wont listen to you, and i'll gladly listen to the lpool legends, and if you can point me in the direction of any one of them who takes the same view as you and proclaims that anything they win will be devalued ,this particular debate will be over.

Not only that Liverpool went out of our cup competitions early,it in my opinion was the difference between winning the league and not and for that reason devalues it. Playing on a thursday in Europe or in the champions league takes a lot out of a team ,in my opinion if Chelsea,City and even Arsenal had the same schedule as Liverpool they finish above them.

No mex once again you fail to comprehend ,the Liverpool legends all agree that non european football aided Liverpool and ther is no doubt it did ,in my opinion that devalues their achievement

Yet despite all that Liverpool have actually posted a slightly bigger loss than Chelsea over the last financial year and a couple of million less than City.
You can say what you like about other clubs spending money but it's a fact that Liverpool spent 50 million beyond their means during the last published accounting period. Something that leaves them vulnerable under FFP for UEFA competitions incidentally. I think you'll find those losses came about through paying off previous managers (Dalglish & Hodgson), no CL football, & an excessively high wage bill considering the lack of achievement we'd encountered over the previous years. All three of those problems have no been addressed. Add to that some lucrative sponsorship deals brought in over the past 12-18 months, with quite a few more to come. Hopefully the extension work on Anfield will start shortly, which will eventually bring in an extra 10,000 people every home game. I'm confident you'll see a much healthier set of figures when our next set of accounts are shown. The FFP rules won't be a problem for us. Lets see how other clubs fare. |

i'm keeping up old boy. but you don't seem to be able to make your mind up from one post to the next.
so we're now back to your opinion that it's devalued? _____ |
|
By:
in my opinion that devalues their achievement
That'll really hurt a lot if we do win the league. |
|
By:
There is also the point that Liverpool's win is probably more devalued by the underachievement of Mourinho than any other factor.
Rodgers, when the pressure was on and Liverpool could happily have settled for a Champions League place, chose to go for it and pick Sturridge and Coutinho whenever they were both fit, where previously he had preferred to play one or the other. Mourinho was so interested in adding to his horrible legend that when Chelsea played Manchester United away, he preferred to park the bus and kill football for the evening, rather than trying to win. There have been numerous other games this season when he has done the same thing - ultra-cautious filth, with his smug self-satisfied grin telling the world that the point he's gained is the stuff of genius and he doesn't care that he's just ruined the game to achieve it. Chelsea should have won the League, but Mourinho's idiocy prevented it. Lukaku playing for Everton, Courtois in Spain while a past-it bluffer plays in goal, and tactics designed to repel football lovers all over ther world. |

surely it dosent matter how any losses came about, the fact is they're there?

as per hunter. you're making it up as you go along, i never ever said mikel was chelseas best player, i said he was a good player you said he was useless .
but i realise that's your stock in trade, you cant debate any point so you twist peoples positions or just plain lie. now toddle off and find some of your small minded mates in the bitter and twisted sour grapes club, and you can all huddle together and seek solace as you all chant in unison that anything lpool might achieve this season is devalued. |

The 2-2 draw, three days after the 3-2 defeat by Liverpool, leaves City's Barclays Premier League title hopes in tatters.
Related Stories Fernandinho had opened the scoring for City less than two minutes into the game but in the end Manuel Pellegrini's tired-looking side were relieved to rescue a point. "It's a very disappointing result," said Fernandinho. "The whole team is disappointed about the result, especially in the way we played. The result was a complete disaster for us. "We started well and scored the goal, but for 50 minutes after that we lost control of the game and they played better than us. Right at the end we tried to score another goal but it wasn't enough. "We scored after two minutes but then changed our style of game and paid for it. They had three clear chances in the first half and then scored two in the second half, when we lost our position on the pitch. "We need to keep our heads up and think about the next game, when we cannot make a silly mistake, as we did." Fernandinho also conceded that fatigue may have contributed to City falling away from the title challenge. Premier League leaders Liverpool have played 13 fewer games than City this season because they have not been involved in Europe. "It can make some difference because we have been going for the Champions League, the Premier League and both cups and maybe our players are feeling a little tired," added Fernandinho. "Maybe it has made a difference, but our team was good, especially in December and January." The Brazilian however believes that City are still in with a chance of the title. |

the balanced view is that yes no european football and less games is an advantage but the other teams squads they have built through attracting the best players over the past few years (thanks to being in CL!) should be a big advantage for them teams like it always has every other season!

after all liverpool were still a laughing stock in many peoples eyes
there has been 1 thread suggesting liverpool could do much better this season (larry sellers) and this was mostly laughed out of town! countless other threads with the usual p1ss taking about how far behind the rivals liverpool were. i can't see any threads saying liverpool will do really well because they have no european football! |

It was the perms and the flares that helped then ,no Liverpool were a great team then is the truth this time they have done it by keeping fresh and fit ,next season will be the one where we see if Liverpool are a great team or was this an abnormal season? where they nicked it by not competing for long in ANY other trophy.

plus Liverpool only had to beat Crusaders,FC Auxerre St Ettiene and Bruges at Wembley to win Eurpean cups now it is much much harder to win it

or maybe Liverpool will win it again and prove that playing less games (up to 14 less in some cases) in other competitions did not hugely aid their success? I am sure this thread will be recycled as the season goes on
![]() What happens if Man Utd finish above Liverpool next season? are Utd not going to be in the Europa League then? Here is a little prediction if? Utd have the same scenario as Liverpool this season, they will finish in a higher place in the league than Liverpool and Chelsea and City certainly will . Liverpool will do well to finish 4th next season given the same schedule as the other top teams. |

By:
just strange in over 2 decades of the premier league this has never hugely aided a team that has not qualified for the champs league that season.
the league is won season after season by those that have competed in the champs league that season but now all of a sudden the huge advantage of no europe is massively over shadowing the obvious disadvantage of having a weaker squad and struggling to attract a lot of players you wanted because of no champs league over the past few seasons and seeing these players go to the sides that are now making excuses! nothing to do with a good brand of football and a bright young manager with a clear vision of what he wants and how to go about getting it. one final time yes its been an advantage for freshness but over a season freshness is nothing without quality you can seethe away all summer now for all i care, IF liverpool win the league the fans will be rightly celebrating an unbelievable achievement from players and manager whilst you continue to squirm and justify this outrage ![]() |
