"Moyesy knows the score" do you still think so? Listen A. H. I think it's time to stop digging ![]() |

stridingedge has it in a nutshell. By this theory, Carlisle United should have done well in Div 1 in 1976 after an early exit in R3 of the FA cup...

I think you'll find those losses came about through paying off previous managers (Dalglish & Hodgson), no CL football, & an excessively high wage bill considering the lack of achievement we'd encountered over the previous years. All three of those problems have no been addressed. Add to that some lucrative sponsorship deals brought in over the past 12-18 months, with quite a few more to come. Hopefully the extension work on Anfield will start shortly, which will eventually bring in an extra 10,000 people every home game. I'm confident you'll see a much healthier set of figures when our next set of accounts are shown. The FFP rules won't be a problem for us. Lets see how other clubs fare.
Regardless of the reasons for it and what may or may not happen in future it is a fact that Liverpool have made big losses for several years and therefore have been doing some "excessive spending" of their own. I actually don't have an issue with that because clubs should be able to run their businesses as they see fit imo but let's not just ignore the fact that Liverpool has been running at losses to rival Chelsea and City over the past few years regardless of net spend. When ourselves and City came along and started winning titles the majority of whining about that success not being "real" came from Liverpool and Arsenal fans. I presume winning the title, if it happens, won't feel any less "real" to Liverpool fans this time even if they've done so operating at big losses for several years? Btw I agree that Rodgers has shown himself to be a very good manager. That's what happens when you come up through the Chelsea bootroom I guess ![]() |

I think if liverpool go on to win the league with their wafer thin squad it will be the greatest achievement in PL history. To compete against the massive squads of the clubs in the CL has rarely been done before hence pretty much the same clubs being in it year in year out. This illustrates the massive resource advantage they have. Isn't Citeh the highest paid squad in world sport?
By:
Perhaps IF they do win the Premier League then it will nail the lie that you have to make massive squad rotations every week...
We all know that the Managers of bigger Clubs have to keep a larger pool of talented players happy and their agents demand that their players get games... Liverpool as a Club with the door to the Trophy Cabinet having needed a new hinge for years, and no-one in the City qualified to undertake such an arduous task have had an advantage it must be said... However will Tom Daley still be available next year as forwards coach and will the Premier League referees have caught up on their MOTD tapes over the Summer recess... We can only hope that some of the shocking scenes from this year are not repeated but I have heard that already, even in April 751 Children have already been born this year in the Liverpool Women's Maternity Unit and been Christened Penalty... |

So is Blackburn`s win in the 94-95 season devalued? They only played in Europe twice in that season. Two games in September against a Norwegian side.

Enough of this nonsense-value bets tonight are 3-0,or 3-1 to Atletico and then start laying off betsprogressively at around 75 minutes. You can get about 17/1 and 20/1 on these scores at the start.Atletico should be 2-0 at half time in which case you will be laying 3-0 or 3-1 at about 3- 6/1 at around 46 minutes

News just in....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27122370 Liverpool will target big signings in summer - Ian Ayre Liverpool will hand manager Brendan Rodgers a significant summer transfer kitty as the club seek to build on qualification for the Champions League. The Reds, favourites to win Premier League, believe Europe's elite competition will help them attract top talent and are willing to pay for it. "It will cost what it costs when we decide who the manager wants to buy," said managing director Ian Ayre. “ We always expected that the squad we need for next season will be very different to the squad for this year ” Liverpool have benefited from not playing in Europe this season. Even the biased bbc liverpool luvies own up to it ![]() |
By:
Yes - and here is the crux for the more dim-witted - Liverpool being in Europe hasn't made the other teams lose and they still have to win their games. Nobody is denying it hasn't helped but it isn't the deciding factor - if it was it would have happened far far more often and it would be mentioned at the start of every season - but it isn't is it? This thread really is a classic now - keep it up (but please stop repeating the same nonsense - try and develop the argument eh?).

By:
*not being
By:
Of course it helps, but the TV money from being in the Champions League also helps the other clubs build a squad big and talented enough to be able to fight on both fronts.
By:
there is no argument to develop, every team that has won the premiership have been competing in Europe, end of thread
By:
That's where you're wrong Scoty - i will devleop TBB's argument now by privding the full quote from the BBC:
Liverpool's small squad have benefited from not playing in Europe this season. |
By:
that's a statement of an organisations opinion, obviously we all have different opinions. Oh when you consider that liverpool have a bigger squad than the other teams in the top 4 it detracts value from their opinion.
By:
So Liverpool's failure to qualify for Europe this season has in no way aided their league position and in no way has adversley affected any of their rivals ,despite Chelsea playing a seriously weakened team in terms of injuries gained in the Champions League at the weekend ? And that in no way devalues or cheapens that success?
An abnormal season with a freak result ![]() Lets see how Stevie Gee and co cope with Weds/Thurs Sat/Sun football next season and if they still get those flying starts where you go 2-0 up after 10 mins after having been on a plane for up to 5 hours . zeez eez facts . |
By:
Chelsea have had ample opportunity to develop a strong enough squad to cope with the rigours of all they are involved in...what with the Champions League revenue over the past years and Abramovichs millions...
..there really is no excuse for them. |
By:
Hunter - do you actually read any other post other than your drivel? Practically EVERY 'PRO LIVERPOOL' SUPPORTER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT HAS PLAYED A PART if they win yet you still repeat the nonsense of 13:21. O almost hope liverpool don't win, you do and then see what you've got to say for yourself about a 'devalued' and 'abnormal' season!
Scoty - all squads are the same size - 25 unless club decided otherwise - apart from young unrpoven players ('homegrowners' i believe is the phrase) that Liverpool have in the squad out of necessity and have barely used them, but you must have known that it's so obvious! |
By:
Yes was well aware of it so for the BBC to state we had a small squad is incorrect. Like you say all Liverpool fans are aware that not being in Europe has helped us but surely the advantage is not that significant or teams not playing in Europe would regularly challenge for the title and in no way shape or form does it detract from their improvement this season.
By:
The only team who devalues the league is Chelsea. Parking the bus, time wasting beyond belief and anti 'the beautiful game.'
Any team not in Europe will benefit but the teams tend to have a smaller squad in terms of quality. Therefore whoever tops the league deserves to win. To knock a team who play exciting football, with a team littered with young players and an English backbone is churlish in the extreme. LFC should be widely applauded. |
By:
if Liverpool win it they deserve it, fair play to them

Everyone agrees it was a big benefit and was probably crucial to their performance, Liverpool players past and present, managers and fans. The only debate is ,does it devalue it? For me it does and makes it a freak result ,next season will tell us if it was or not, when we have an even playing field and Liverpool have no advantage in terms of rest and preperation . Come the end of next season I expect most will be saying that it was a freak event aided by circumstances. How appropriate it will be on Sunday that Liverpool will play a team who are in the semi finals of the biggest prize in European club football and one who will be resting players because they are competing in Europe, when a win for a full strength and well prepared Chelsea team could still enable Chelsea or Man City to win the league. |
By:
Charwell, you will deserve it when you win it but your hatred towards Chelsea along with the disrespect in general shown by Liverpool towards Chelsea is it any wonder it's given back.
By:
Chelseaki can you please give examples of this disrespect from Liverpool towards Chelsea as, and I know i'm not speaking for all LFC fans but I'm having trouble recollecting caring about you lot until Moaninio did what he does - the afore mentioned and well used 'us and them' tactic for the 'phantom goal' game. I don't doubt a few remarks about buying success etc came your way but that has been levelled at pretty much every team that wins things. Maybe some who went regularly in the 70's and 80's can put me right though.
I don't remember any sort of historical antipathy other than the usual cockney bullox that went with every London team and Liverpool and the odd headhunter incursion - basically what is your earliest memory of this dislike of all things Liverpool from your end? |
By:
chelseakai, isnt this thread started by a chelsea fan saying if liverpool win the league its undeserved? And the hatred in this thread starts right there.
Would you like to comment on your views on a hunter? |

The bigger teams have obviously not benefited from playing in Europe..
Being able to rest in between games has been a major factor in Liverpool being more successful than in the previous 30 years plus.. We must not discount the fact that they seem to be getting the most of the alleged "rub of the green" and in the "25 years since Hillsboro" that is rammed down our throats at every opportunity. Perhaps the alleged PREMIERship referees will have cottoned on to their antics after a Summer watching MOTD... None of the said refs are fit to referee in the World Cup after all.... |
By:
I went to most if not all Liverpool v Chelsea games from '69 and throughout the 70's and 80's, absolutely no bitterness whatsoever. The usual we hate the cockney's chant. To be honest Chelsea didn't have a big away following compared to some and I can't remember any trouble over the years. Of course there weren't the internet forum warriors who haven't a clue what football is about then.

![]() ![]() the CL teams with the big squads usually finish in the top 4 year after year. For liverpool to not only break into the top 4 but to challenge for the title with a miniscule squad is perhaps the greatest achievement in PL history in the away game at chelski we had kids on the bench who hadnt even started shaving yet ![]() |

Liverpool have been the best team, Chelsea, will be like all Mourinhio teams and that is boring to watch, but effective at getting results, while Man City despite winning 1 League title, don't seem to be able to quite get over the line.
