Chelseaki can you please give examples of this disrespect from Liverpool towards Chelsea as, and I know i'm not speaking for all LFC fans but I'm having trouble recollecting caring about you lot until Moaninio did what he does - the afore mentioned and well used 'us and them' tactic for the 'phantom goal' game. I don't doubt a few remarks about buying success etc came your way but that has been levelled at pretty much every team that wins things. Maybe some who went regularly in the 70's and 80's can put me right though. I don't remember any sort of historical antipathy other than the usual cockney bullox that went with every London team and Liverpool and the odd headhunter incursion - basically what is your earliest memory of this dislike of all things Liverpool from your end? Spyker Think it all started with the Louis Garcia goal in the CL, can't remember the year. I've never had a problem with Chelsea and have fond memories of the Peter Osgood days - Mourhino was a novelty at first but is now a total kn0b. Secretly the Chelsea fans are embarrassed by him. |

Eff and Crystal, thanks - that's pretty much what i thought. My dad is from Huyton and lived in W London area in 50's and 60's and there was nothing - he used to go to SB regularly (mainly for the dogs mind) and doesn't remember any rumblings. Chelski - sorry mate but all you've said is 'Liverppol fans are bitter and disrespectful and worse than others towards Chelsea' and i'm trying to find out when that started (perceived or not).
I wouldn't say Chelsea were an irrelevance to Liverpool but they were no more relevant than any other team (not forgetting liverppol weren't exactly winning much in the 90's!). So some genuine Chelsea input would be appreciated as i suspect this is purely an internet age thing stemming from Garcia's goal and the nonsense around that game. |

What irritates Liverpool fans is the fact that Cheslea overtook them as a club pre Abramovich when Jesper Grongkaer scored the 10 million pound goal at The Bridge that meant Chelsa and not Liverpool where a European club and that still stands 10 years later,for a club that seeks justice and the truth they really need to accept that.
The Heysel blame game is still very sore with some and they seem to want to airbrush that from history. |

Hunter - how did/does this perceived 'irritation' present itself - please don't say 'I met someone in a liverpool shirt down the pub' as we all know that means 'I'm making this up as i go along'? And the heysel memorial at Anfield which was unveiled at the holding of a service on the 25th anniversary of it along with reconcilliation attempts when playing Juve and pages on fans sites etc rather exposes your 'airbrushing' theory. Just because people say it on the internet doesn't mean it's true you know - however many times and often they say it!

Spyker I'd say there has always been an edge from our side for Liverpool games but one I'd generally put down to you lot being the team to beat at the time. There was the odd incident that raised the temperature on our side i.e. the Saunders tackle that finished Paul Elliott's career and the Fowler nonsense with Le Saux but that wasn't long lasting. I remember beating you 4-0 just before Christmas in the early 2000's and the songs were mostly of the "you nicked my stereo" and feed the scousers" variety and certainly not the "murderers" sort of stuff that took hold later.
I don't think there was any one factor that led to the intensity of the rivalry increasing. I just think it was an inevitable consequence of coming up against each other in so many big games in a short space of time. By the same degree I've heard some of our younger fans say they hate Barca more than Tottenham which I find ridiculous but again that's come out of the number of big games we played against them in the space of a few years. |

Marcee - you're prob right in that it was the lots of games in short space and - i also think forums play a part in stoking nonsense and Moaninio def stokes fires to this effect wherever he goes as well! In all honesty my memory of longer-term London rivals is more against spuds - but maybe that's because at that time (70/80's) they were winning things and, being from the south, lots of people supported them then.
I really don't know whether even now liverpool fans really pay much attention to Chelsea (more than other teams by looking for results of teams you want to lose!) - it's not as if we haven't had anything to focus on ourselves the last 20 years (not being very good for big chunks!) so other teams don't come into it. At least that's my point of view. |

i've got no particular hatred for lpool, in fact they were a sort of "second team" for everyone when they were carrying all in europe before them and they were about 90% [possibly more] of live football on tv at the time.
i've got to say most of the respect i had for the club went out of the window when i was watching live coverage of the match in heysel when nobody had a clue what was going on and that idiot who was their club secretary went on live tv and pronounced that he had it on very good authoruty that it was the fault of chelsea fans [quite amazing really when you think that an earlier post on this fred said chelsea didn't have much of an away following  .i quite enjoyed the games when both teams were competeing for stuff, but i've got to say that my hackles have started to rise this season on the reappearance of the lesser spotted lpool fan[ for the last ten years anyway who have started reappearing in some pubs on the sarf london suurey borders, resplendant in their new shirts .if i choose to go to a boozer for the closing day i'll be giving one or two a wide berth . |

The other thing I'd say played a part from the Liverpool side was Gerrard being on the verge of joining us. It wasn't as if a player like him was ever going to go from you to United and I think that stirred up a fair bit of antagonism towards us.
As I said on another thread yesterday there was a noticeable change of attitude from Liverpool to us. We went from getting the odd version of "Stamford Bridge is falling down" to virtually the whole ground telling us we had no history. Coming out of that away end has been a bit more lively than it used to be as well just recently. |

Thing is Mex - the same can be said for Chelsea fans around me in Newbury. Barely a sausage of a Chelsea fan 10-15 years back yet suddenly boooooom loads of blue 'Samsung' shirts - Vodaphone were so unhappy (as they owned newbury at the time!) that they ended sponsorship of UTD!

TBB I don't know why i bother but - it is well known that many other 'firms' were at heysel and Belgian police were given warnings from Both UK and Italian police of trouble as this was the culmination of a few years of bad blood from Italian Ultras and UK clubs. That's not taking away from the leading part that Liverpool hooligans played and anyone that knows anything about (uk/European) football hooliganism in the 80's can back it up. At that time Chelsea 'headhunters' were more notorious than others 9rightly or wrongly) and got mentioned in the same way Milwall fans do now - didn't last long though! I've not read them but it's covered in various (non Liverpool!) books.

Liverpool winning the league this season after where they've been the last few seasons AND spending a fraction of the oil clubs WHILST playing the best football would be the greatest achievement in English football for as long as I can remember. It would be a truly staggering achievement in this day and age. |

The fact that the FA are allowing Chelsea to pick a 'light' team without any sanctions....means that infact they are giving the weakest title known to man to liverpool.
They should do what Riddick Bowe did back in the 90's, and put that title in a trashcan so liverpool can degrade themselves by dipping it out of the bin. |

i think what the premiership should do is cancel the title this season, cancel relegation, let the four cl qualifiers from last season compete in next seasons competition,and give lpool a six points deduction in next seasons title race for causing so much trouble.
