im starting to think that Bundesliga is the best league in the world
By:
Your right la liga aint looking hot this year, der bundesliggger is der bestisch.
By:
La Liga teams top in three groups - two of the have won all their games,
In the other group Real will finish top just wait and see. |
By:
its not only about the CL

In fairness to the English sides, the Italian sides have been really struggling too, and even the Spanish teams haven't exactly looked dominant. Barca needed a 94th minute winner against 'mighty' Celtic, and Madrid have lost and, frankly, are a bit fortunate to have as many points as they have already. They could easily have lost two out of their three matches so far.
The German sides are looking very good currently, and many other teams are finding out how to play the big sides. Nobody's finding it easy this season. |
By:
Lordbobbin - Spanish teams are leading three of their four groups and Madrid will finish top of theirs.
German sides look decent as well to be fair. |
By:
The EPL must be going downhill rapidly if the champions can be beaten by a Dutch side, Arsenal thrashed at home by Schalke and ManU struggled at home against Braga. A few years back all three EPL sides would have won easily.
By:
The Spanish teams are doing fine Jam. Malaga doing extremely well, and Valencia are managing pretty well - although there's still all to play for in that group. But Barca and Real aren't crushing the opposition with the same ease that they used to. That was a real struggle for Barca at home yesterday, and I say again, Real are a touch fortunate to be as well placed as they are. City were very stupid to end up losing that match.
My point is that the gap between the top sides and the middling sides isn't what it was. Most of the big names are finding it harder to impose themselves on the opposition than they used to. |
By:
Lordbobbin - Barcelona dont often crush the opposition in the group stages, they generally play in first gear and do just enough to win the group.
Barca didnt struggle at home yesterday at all they completely dominated and didnt finish their chances, you get games like that. |
By:
That was certainly a shocker from City tonight though. Arsenal are a rather ordinary side at the moment, so we shouldn't be too surprised by them, but 2-0's still an awful result.
By:
it really rankles with some that the epl is widely acknowledged worldwide as the best league in the world.
yeh ignore last years result, and pick a random week when the english teams don't do well to re-enforce their prejudices. imo this probably isn't the "best" league in the world, but it's the most commercially successful, the most exciting, and the most watched. AND THAT REALLY SEEMS TO GET UP SOME PEOPLES NOSES ![]() ![]() ![]() |
By:
Also City were fortunate to even be in the game with Madrid who should have won by 2/3 goals.
By:
mexicano - most watched yes, dont care about that at all.
Not the best quality though. |
By:
so you agree that as far as anything "quantifiable" the english is best.
but you don't care about that at all ![]() |
By:
Jam, how do you mean? Barca usually take apart teams in the group stages. Last year, for example, they had two tough games against Milan (understandably), but they won the other four games by scoring 15 goals without reply. 5-0, 4-0, 4-0 and 2-0 hardly sounds like first gear.
By:
In terms of quality it is not the best.
If you want to call it the best because its viewing figures in Asia then go ahead Mexicano as I said dont care so much about that. |
By:
the english teams problems are that they have to have a certain amount of english players in their squads. city can buy who they want, but still have to barry and milner in the squad. germany and spain have good players at most clubs....how many decent english players are there?? rooney is 2 stone over weight, wilshere been injured for years and the other 52 million are pretty poor.. when english teams dominated the champions league the english players were playing in the uefa cup. as one of the most football crazy nations on earth we should be ashamed at our lack of talent(((
By:
in your opinion it's not the best.
in any quantifiable criteria. it's the best. |
By:
No La Liga ranked No.1 league in europe.
Fairly quantifiable I would say. Premier League was most watched in world in the mid 1990's when ranked 6/7th in europe. It means nothing, but cling to it all you want Mexicano. |
By:
Lordbobbin - those games last season were against BATE and Plezen.
Barcelona reserves beat BATE 4-0. Look at past seasons and they have not really gone full out to win the closer games - Copenghagen have gone to Nou Camp and should have got something, Rubin Kazan won there so to have Shakter. While they have drawn away to the likes of Rangers and Copenhagen while barely breaking sweat. |
By:
That's hard to argue Mexicano. Most exciting, quite possibly. But 'the best'? Spanish sides are clearly the 'best' at the moment in terms of overall skill and results. On current form the Germans are the second best side, with English and Italian football fighting it out for third. I wouldn't be surprised to see that change though. I could quite see at least one of Chelski/Man U going reasonably deep.
By:
as i said'
gets right up some peoples noses dosen't it ?football snobbery. people slag off their own coutrys league then assign a spurious allegience to some football club hundreds of miles away, in order to do a bit of gloryhunting. ![]() .such sad cases ![]() |
By:
English Clubs peaked end of 2007/08 . 'The Big 4' were the best 4 teams in Europe at that point. Slow decline since then
Barcelona themselves are declining though from their peak under Guardiola |
By:
EPL was the best league a few years back but it's not anymore, it's official after this latest round of games, no more excuses no more BS. EPL sides were outplayed and deservedly beaten in all games, except ManU who struggled to beat a relatively average Braga side at home.
By:
don't say that tober.
jam will be looking for a new club ![]() |
By:
Those smiley do make you look a bit manic at losing the argument Mexicano.
Interesting that you slag people who 'assign allegiance to some football club hundreds of miles away', yet in your next breath claim English league is best in the world largely due to its viewers in Asia!!! Try not to make yourself look such a muh would be a good start. |
By:
You are an uber gloryhunter jamdav, spanish would be laughing at you bigging up their teams.
By:
Yeah Jam, they drew away to Copenhagen and Rubin. Those weren't great results, admittedly, but were out of character for Barca. And, crucially, they were away matches, which are always difficult in Europe, even against smaller teams. They shouldn't be scraping past a gash side like Celtic at the Nou Camp. Barca generally annihilate their opponents at home, even in the group stages.
By:
Cheers captain cristy, good input as usual.
By:
jam you must try and keep up.
my initial postin said that imo it wasn't the best. but if you take that on board you can't have a row can you? now go back and read your barca scrapbook, and hold fire untill english clubs have another bad week, when you can dust off all your prejudices again. |
By:
seriously you're only here for a wind up, who cares who you think has the best league in the world? Most people support their own teams good or bad, you? well you are just a nobhead really.
By:
Barca scrap book is a good read indeed.
Keep going with the glory hunting comments,I dont mind one bit. |
By:
Haha 'probably just a nob head'.
Again great input. |
By:
I notice Barcelona have changed their style a little from Guardiola's time there. There are not pressing quite so hard and so high up the pitch. I haven't seen them trying to hem in the opposition in their own box, in the same way they used to. I think Barca actually might be better for it when they get through the transitional period.
By:
You've got no connection with them, just another prat who has bought the shirt, your opinions have no value.
By:
it really rankles with some that the epl is widely acknowledged worldwide as the best league in the world.
Mexicano, how is that the same as you saying that, in your opinion, it wasn't the best???? You're not making a whole lot of sense.. |
By:
to be fair dortmond and schalke battered both english sides.
By:
No, no I dont buy shirts captain christy.
Just a pure glory hunter is all you need to see me as. Happy enough with that. |
By:
well it seems to me that anybody can trawl the world and find what they consider to be the best league.
then they can "support" what is regarded as the best team in that league. then they can slag everything else off. gloryhunting in the extreme i would suggest. |
