And very much appreciates and understands the Stokes/McCullum approach.
Much like Morgan. And they're both winners. |

This innings will make Ollie Pope.
He'll be a changed man, hereon in, having reached maximal belief in his game. Always looked good (first innings here, aside) but his record doesn't reflect his talent. Think it was under his helmet. Prone to complacency. Hope to witness peak Ollie for 5/6 years now... |
By:
They have to take the new ball now
By:
Yeah I think he has changed his game as looks the part now. Scratchy starter but once in looks very good. England have managed him well.
India did throw their wickets away and may pay the price yet |

I'm the blindest of England fans going but I can't get past the worry that Root will be our most effective bowler.
Don't think we've much of a chance unless India need 250+. |
By:
I still think our first innings score was around par.
And when India came out to bat, I didn't realise how bad our bowling attack was. I now know. Alas, we won't be able to keep a lid on the Indian batsmen. We can do it, but we'll need a lot of fortune. |
By:
If we had Leach, Stokes or heck, even Brook...we'd be approaching favourites in my head.
Here, I'm trying to conjure the price to get on India ![]() |
By:
Rehan looks like he can't take wickets but ~10% of his deliveries don't use the wicket.
Hartley, no idea, never seen him before. Hoping the first innings was an aberration and Jaiswal pinging his first ball out of the ground messed things up but I'm not convinced. Morgs and Ravi have a point, India won't play this way *but* they're masters against GOOD spin, let alone whatever we serve... |
By:
Yeah I do not know what to make of this pitch. If it remains the same I fancy India but it may crumble more
Whatever, credit to the management |

There must be Test batsmen all over the World scratching their heads

About what..? Lovely drop there, KL - let's make a real game of this. Chase 280 in the 4th, even against our badgers, and you've deserved it. |

All the Indians wearing spooked expressions, they're getting very worried.
By:
Wondering what they have been doing against India for the last 10 years. Starting with our openers who imho are not the full ticket they nonetheless took it to India in a controlled and confident way.
Ducket, not my favourite was very impressive and set the tone. Again the managerial be congratulated but ffs have a word with the bowling coach …. or India’s |
By:
India should win but but but
What a great start to the series. We really feared the worst didn’t we Well done England! India need to start fast against a hard ball |

Hartley, hello.

Shamar Joseph, hello.

Test cricket, hello.

Just Wow! 1997!

I am much less bullish on India right now.
Whole different ball game again if we have discovered economical bowling. That's all this task needs, imo. Zipping all over the place. Hopefully old ball doesn't reduce movement too much. |

Flippin' heck Hartley, stop it!

I have a big slice of humble pie in the fridge, just in case.
In knows where this match will go, tremendous cricket match. Saved my stake with a bit on England so will have to cheer them home now. What a match for Hartley after the early wake up. |
By:
I think India are short here @1.26.
By:
Half that pie should be gone already, bar
![]() We've made a right match of this |
By:
I'll take a sliver for doubting England's new legend could not concede two sixes per over
By:
I’m not sure
Spirited performance but I expect I dis to come harder at our spinners in the next match. Still all to play for here but the ball will get softer making it easier for set batsmen. Whatever happens England have been magnificent but India I think can step it up in this series |
By:
England ought to be favourites, I still don't like the India price

Market wising up a little

Until if/when India play two or three successful shots in anger...free lay.
By:
They'll be considerably north of 3.0 if a wicket falls needing 100+
By:
Ok, they only tickled 3.05

BOOM

By:
Good for Leach to bag one, hopefully the leg is just bad bruising
By:
Very lame from India. They have not put England under any pressure and I can see a couple of new batsmen for the next Test or rather there should. Not sure Ishan Kishan or Sky Kumar are in the squad but they need an attacking batsman.
Great day of Trst cricket with West Indies winning too |
By:
Sweeping and reverse sweeping is going to be a big thing in this series
By:
Our cupboard is bare but I'd shake on the deal...
Leach out for us, Jadeja out for them |
By:
Don't understand the India approach now, can't nurdle 100+
By:
Really hoping to stay in bed through the middle of the night, cmon England!
By:
Agree, someone has to bite the bullet.
By:
Quite incredible
That should be it now. |
