They should all bat well in this. Shame it is slightly slow. Got 9.4 on the draw but cannot see that happening although it could flatten out and two big innings might help the draw price

All started with Popes run out, err stumping. No need last over before lunch. Then in come the middle order dominoes. Followed by talk and bluster.
England need to get a grip. Going from exiting to a laughing stock. |

Kohli Rahul Shami Pant Acar Patel could not get a game. They unearthed Jaiswal, Dhurel, Khan and saw Gill and Kuldeep establish themselves. If you suppress the disappoint for a short time I will tell you this team of England lest we forget put India and Rohit Sharma on the back foot and even had Ashwin baffled for a short time. England had opportunities to win the three last Tests and lost them. I. Winning the toss they had an opportunity to do something in this test but sadly failed miserably. Go back and look at some of the press after the first two tests. The innings of Pope then Duckett almost had Sharma in a loop. Our boys were more successful than India’s rightly vaunted spin twins. We have come closer to any team to beat I dis since Swann and Panesar. Credit to Stokes Our middle order did not perform Our bowlers ( seamers ) were relatively toothless Our young charges did very well but were up against Ashwin, Jadeja and now Kuldeep! Rather than being frustrated just enjoy the cricket Oh and FFS watching Bumrah bowl! I got really excited watching Rabada when he burst on the scene but Bumrah is unique. Enjoy him while he is around. Our team needs new blood for sure but they have acquitted themselves well |

Was on the Fizz last night but unlike Percy Fender could not report for duty so did not see the carnage but the remarks from my previous post stands.
Both Harmison and Gough on the money. England have done well but missed key opportunities. They expressed the view that “ this is the way we play “ should be reviewed. I think the middle order needs attention. Not sure Pope us ready for 3, maybe India are just too good for anyone at home so perhaps stick with him at 3 and Brook at 5. No place for Bairstow for me except possibly as WK but I would retain Foden and give him a chance to come good with the bat. He can bat. Bowling wise I really do not have a clue where we go and what our stock is like. Happy with Anderson on green, desperate for Archer ( forlorn hope ) not sure about Gus or any of the others. Wood in England is fine. If I were Bash or Hartley I would practise practice practice batting as well as bowling. Not much opportunity for them on pitches prepared for Anderson. |

Also don’t forget the young spinners may have ended the Test career of Shreyas Iyer who is a fine player of spin on his home pitches.

Unfortunately that also gave the confidence needed to Shubman Gill who is not just an even better player but better equipped to score runs all over the World.

Just a Test too far, been a long series, had their chances early on but look a bit weary now (hardly surprising in India). We might have fared a bit better in a shorter series.
For the summer I would like to see Root back at three, Brook four, Stokes five and blood a a new Six. Give Bairstow back the gloves in England and the seven slot. A bit of a break now will do them good. |

I would rather England were competitive in 5 tests, and lose them all, than what has happened in this series. To lose a test in well under three days is terrible by any standards. The batting has looked threadbare far too often, and India have been able to accumulate far too many runs.
There is nothing like enough consistency, and I don't see that situation getting any better with the current team in charge. |

I am not sure about Bairstow with the gloves. He had an awful summer from memory and our bowling not great atm. He is good at £ but I would rather see if the young guns given a chance. There seem to be a few of them vying.
Broom should help. 3 seems to be a problem now. Pope has what it takes. Maybe a home series against potentially weaker opposition might help cement him. We need to give a chance to someone at six. I daresay wood, Woakes and Anderson will prevail this summer but againI want to see a young charger. I don’t know what we have. |

time to move on from bairstow entirely i would say. don't think either he or foakes will make the starting line up for the next ashes. soft summer schedule an ideal opportunity to try one of the younger keepers like smith or rew

I like Brook. Stokes can bat and Root might be the best I have seen including KP. Openers look set. Pope needs more time but has what it takes. I am more concerned about the bowling which lacks World Class strike bowlers or match winning spinners
