Risky take - I think 93/3 is advantage England.
By:
Probably depends how Robinson goes - this pitch could really suit him, as long as he isn't just letting it go.
If he's fit and 'getting through the crease', his metronome could be very effective. |

Snap a hand off for 300 on here.

Very weak, JB.
Great case that hit-and-hope is his best/only hope but a pre-meditated, cross-batted, hoick is dire. Plus - making it extremely easy to fit Brook into this eleven. |
By:
Much like it brings our approach more into the game, a par-250 type deck means we're very susceptible to an hour plus of Jaiswal.
By:
could be competitive if that last wicket becomes a theme...
By:
Jeez, that hit him at the top of the boot off a good length!
This pitch is currently looking unfit for cricket. |
By:
yep, don't mind a turn on day one job...but that's not really acceptable at this level..
By:
another half hour of Bairstow and Rooty would have set it up quite nicely..never quite know in India when surfaces can go to sleep but judging by the cracks and Swanny jamming his finger in to them pre game making to make them worse you'd be surprised...

Probably my mind deceiving me but Stokes seems to get grubbed an above-average number of times.
Something in the way he plays or more likely I'm imagining it. |
By:
think he acts the odd one tbh...not there obvs

By:
Maybe, yeah.
That one was as bad as I have seen for a while - at any time in a match...never mind the first morning ![]() |
By:
If this flattens...England should give up.
After toss importance so far, to be punished for winning the toss here would be a final straw. |
By:
who's going to try and stop Stokes having a bowl ? ...

By:
Well, well.
Not gonna be a draw, guys. |
By:
fantastic stuff from Rooty and Foakes...pitch a bit quieter with the older ball but a few in that last half hour to give England plenty of encouragement..
By:
what a knock that is...Rooty back on it...helps when you don't gift it of course

I never doubted this blokes kwality!
Shame and a pox upon the Houses of those who slagged him off Shows some of the others what Test Cricket is all about |
By:
Stokes could do with some marketing and communicational skills!
I like his attitude and Captaincy but his media relations are rubbish. The Captaincy of the England Cricket team is an Official Office of State. |
By:
Imagine the vitriol if England had taken five wickets in 24 overs with a hard ball, then two tailenders in 60+ overs with an aging ball...
...and then Stokes didn't take a new ball when available. |
By:
curious choice from India not to at least take it for 4 or 5 overs..
By:
This is such a weird day that I can't decide what I think.
Felt *so* difficult from ball one, but it now appears slow. I'd feel happier, and more confident from an England perspective, if it had only been Root looking solid... |
By:
still the odd one keeping low...early overs with 2nd new ball will indicate true state of pitch you'd feel..
By:
I am on Engerland at 3.8 atm
Think they are in a strong position. Not an easy pitch to score fluently but I dis do have batsmen used to playing on this type of wicket. I suspect some attrition. England batting 90 overs plus….. wow……. Stokes out….. boring boring England! It’s been a great series so far |
By:
Market just feels wrong, but not sure precisely when/how.
Breaching 300, we are only now returning to the prices when England were 225/5... |
By:
Rohit quite relaxed about cheap runs..either s*** captain or thinks pitch will play ok tommorow...
By:
Thank goodness for a bit of sensible, old fashioned cricket. Hopefully, they can get another 50+, and give themselves a chance.
By:
I don’t think Rohit has covered himself in glory this series
Where will the pitch go? Can India ground and pound the inexperienced England spinners? This really has been a hard fought series and either side had the chances to be 3-0 up in this series. |
By:
Market does feel wrong. Far better to be in England right now.
By:
Tbf to Rohit the Ollie Pope review was borderline genius
By:
I like Gough. He is right. See how the new ball fares in the morning. I am half tempted to lump on England right now
By:
Great innings from Root. Amazing what happens when you play straight. Robinson reverse sweep and out Anderson reverse sweep and out. So so silly.
By:
Forget the wicket, batting is easiest at Ranchi once you're seven down.
By:
India favourites. Not convinced.

By:
England would give a lot for their 46/0 from 7 overs, right now.
By:
pitch a bit sleepy so far today...maybe just not catching the cracks which is obviously a random element to a large extent..

Umpire's call on leg stump?
By:
Yup, thought it was missing leg 'til I saw the replay.
