be interesting to see what India look to set (if they get a choice) with only 3 fully fit bowlers - I'm guessing 500+ given the chance,,,and knowing England will still go for it...

one of the first times when the short over count of the batting inns has been exposed...pretty sure England wouldn't have got many (if any more) than 319 typically but asking bowlers to come back on short rest after bowling 130 overs is definitely a thing..

Yep, very true in hot/humid conditions.
All a bit of an anti-climax today. Went into our shells a little, perhaps figuring something into the absence of Ashwin, who knows. Either way, game resumes when India declare...which means I will have a lie-in tomorrow. Silver linings... |

With the talent available TMB...I don't think that's fair tbh..
this is a team that shouldn't be as successful as it has been under Stokes/McCullum in this format since they took over ...they've found a way to get results beyond their level..England and everyone else actually gets stuffed in India and this side has competed very well to this point on the tour...I'd be more worried losing a home test to the Windies in all honesty... |

I don't think you should be comparing England with us at the moment Brentford. Anyone who says that wasn't a sh!t show today needs committing but I take on your point. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh.

If I was a national cricket coach anyone playing the reverse sweep would be dropped immediately. Save it for T20. Root should hang his head in shame. Doughnut.

The trouble with that though (and I've said I think Root is a player better served by playing more conventionally..even though apt' has fairly put a numbers argument against that)
...is you'd be dropping Duckett apart from anyone else who's probably now averaging more than most visiting openers to India in the last 20 years on this tour to date.. |

It's terrible shot to play in Test Match cricket and invariably leads to a needless dismissal. Hardest thing to do in cricket when you are batting is getting a start and once you have done that you do not expect supposed world class cricketers to give away their priceless wicket to a shot that most of them can't play with any degree of safety anyway.

Pope’s innings won a Test Match, Duckets the opportunity. I am old school too and think there are ways of combatting the England approach. One thing we are all agreed on is that Root does not have to bat like the rest. He is such a kwality Test Match batsman he should just continue with what has worked for him and expand only if the game demands it. No team in the last 12 years has put India under so much pressure at home oh and lest we forget 30/3 and 40/4! |

Why is there an umpire review for this? Either he saw it or didn’t. No question the ball was caught fairly. That was wrong imho. Ok not an umpire review, players review

 Yesterday was the single worst day of Test cricket from England since Root left the captaincy. It was disappointing but throw some scraps to keep everyone fed. |

Ashwin expected back in case anyone missed it (quite important)...not yet spotted at ground..
would like to see Jaiswal on the driving range...some of those straight hits a thing of beauty.. the chubby little f***** Sarfaraz has plenty about him as well.. (not all good) but certainly not overawed by test cricket...suppose it's secondary to white ball stuff in some ways anyway... |

They had three (3) losses at home in twelve flipping years before we arrived. England have been favourites at one stage in 3/3 Tests so far. |

I'm largely with you Apt' (Root I suspect will remain opposed on) but I'm not sure Bairstow's dismissal was not batting aggressively or Stokes in the 1st inns for some context..
