Double-damn: missed a key wicket & closed SA lay at close.
Morning all. |
By:
Lunch has so much to do with it. Markram gets castles and Petersen’s Bounces over but looked a more wicked ball.
Shami looks unplayable too |

Wonky-thinking by me, given the presence of a nightwatchman (market always overreacts to their wicket) and 'starting again' in the morning.
Turns out I can't leave that dough 'exposed', even when they're not playing ![]() ![]() |

Bang-to-rights. |

If Centurion-Thakur shows up, SA have some issues reaching India's total.
Even the blue skies might not be enough. |
By:
No-one's seen any variable bounce yet, right?
Just lateral deviations? |
By:
(Obviously, I missed pitch report etc and now trying to catch up on my homework on the bus in!
) |
By:
few have lifted off either cracks or the grass patches but not outrageous
By:
Grand, thanks.
Pitch has green snakes all over it so expecting similar to the grassy patches in Jo'burg |
By:
But then the totals increased there in the end so not convinced I know how to confidently interpret that
By:
Beautiful shot, Keshav!
By:
Pigeons scattered if he carries this on beyond lunch
By:
Lord Thakur might get it to swing. Shami has got some late swing, which, is noticeable today.
The pitch is a little dry underneath but Bumrah is current exploiting the green grass patches bowled from wide of the return crease. SA must get a decent lead or they are in trouble on this deck. India need to get both these out. Maharaj has played himself in nicely. Peterson is Kwality and has some luck against both bowlers to still be at the crease so it could be his lucky day too |
By:
nothing especially ground breaking but you'd expect in these conditions once the hardness goes a bit should be reasonable for batting...just depends on damage up front but Maharaj already done a worthy job soaking up some of this..
By:
Some pitches are drier underneath. This might be one of them. Unlikely to “ die “ more likely to spin on days 4 and 5
By:
Eng made quite a big 3rd inns score here after lowish 1st inns...The Vicar of Sibley even got a ton...
By:
and saffers were 120 odd for 1 in the 4th in that one before a collapso and comfy Eng win (those were the days

Exactly my thinking. |
By:
And there are no clouds loitering so lightning unlikely to strike (twice) this time
(In the form of unlikely SA heroics fourth up) |
By:
market briefly forgetting Maharaj not a front line batsman ?
By:
If 1 does indeed get 3 then Saffers are in deep doo doo.
Break this stand is the order of the day. |
By:
Agree even if th3 slips were 30cm closer I think we might have had a couple more wickets today
By:
Bucketloads of edges, inside and out
By:
yep, helluva waste of a couple of authentic nicks..
By:
surprised to find Petersen is 28..considering how classy he looks and SA's lack of high calibre batsmen in the last few years seems late to the party...
By:
SA quite happy with that I'd imagine - only lost one front line batsman in what were very tough conditions especially early on..
By:
someone clearly thought it was out

By:
This is almost as good a 40ish overs as SA could possibly have hoped for (110/3, one a tailender)...
Their price has just returned to innings start |
By:
Wonderful athleticism from Thakur

Pointless observation incoming - when I watch Shami bowl, he looks sluggish and laboured in his run-up and appears to collapse in his bowling stride...yet he bowls 85mph+ all the time. Weird.
By:
He's one of the quickest slow bowlers I've ever seen.
By:
'Collapse' isn't the right word, but something looks inefficient through the crease.
Anyway, inanity over for now. |
By:
yep, it's not a convincing approach or action but seems to work ok for sure...

Kohli only just got that catch. I still think he is too far back!

Straight out of Jonty Rhodes' fielding handbook. Again
