Think they will have a bowl tonight if they can get a move on here, 25 overs or so and another 110 runs would be perfect

Another 90 set them 350

No need to keep batting beyond today now

Up to a point but that wasn't what was forecast the day before and even a couple of days out, it was heavy showers, not set in rain.  Showers are very hard to call until they're up on the radar.

Looks bog awful. Showery from the afternoon onwards but set in rain from 3am (as per Met Office) so even if there are gaps between the rain, it may not be dry enough. Looks most likely to be a total wash out but to be fair to England, hard to account for that when you might get a couple of hours of play, or possibly even more. Of course, if England end up setting relatively few runs and there's play tomorrow after rain, they probably won't regret it.

Certainly with umpire's call in the batsman's favour.

Different types of forecast though. Generally, although obviously not always, set in rain is something that can be well predicted. Showers are harder.

That might have been leg side but I think out.

V dead on the replay, I think.

Agree, can't hurt the cause.

Root not hanging about. That's the benefit of all those wickets in hand and a big lead, even though I think they've dawdled along, you can up the pace without any great risk.

I'm up 300 bucks on this game. Net loss this series.

Still enough time to mess up those 300 like I've done in the first two tests.

Oh dear. I did well in the first game, which offered very nice draw trading.  I wasn't paying attention to the second test and it started with me a fair way in with England lays at 1.45 or so without me noticing.  Went okay but I only won a couple of hundred from there.

This one has been pretty good too, although I've probably ended up with slightly too much of my green on the draw unless the rain tomorrow really does wreck the whole day.

Root must have told Burns to get a move on, get his ton and then they can declare

Only just over an hour of play left plus account for losing the 10m to change over. They could thrash for 20m or so hoping to get 365 or so ahead and get 7-8 overs in but I don't really think they will. Assuming they will bat to close and see what happens tomorrow they should also be batting like this, given 9 wickets in hand!

By:
tomtimtum
When: 26 Jul 20 17:29
if they bat on till close of play, we should see a decent draw run
By:
Fatslogger
When: 26 Jul 20 17:29
Also, unless Burns really gets his foot down, he probably won't get to the ton with time left for it to be worth declaring, will he? Needs 24 more in under 40m for there to be any real point at all.

Root could also declare with Burns in the 90s! Not sure how likely that is tho

Not sure but probably, especially if it really is biblical rain overnight and first thing. It's hard to know how much stuff is priced in sometimes.  I think the market should reckon on England not declaring and on at least 2 sessions gone tomorrow, probably all day but I am not totally confident either that these are accurate assumptions in themselves or that the market shares them!

I think the market is priced for Windies to be batting again tonight, which is why i think there'd be some move on the draw + the panic that England might bat on again on day 5 (however unlikely that is).

If the true probability of England declaring is say 25%, I guess that means there ought to be at least a bit of a wobble down in the draw price once it becomes clear they aren't going to. Will be a massive thrash in the next few overs if they are planning that.  I just don't see them setting under 400 with over two days of play left, no matter how bad the forecast is for one of them.

By:
Fatslogger
When: 26 Jul 20 17:43
To be clear, I think England should have been aiming to declare this evening and the openers should have batted accordingly too.  As I said at the top of the day, taking a risk of being bowled out setting only 350 or so in order to have time tonight was perfectly fine and they ought to have embraced that but given that they didn't approach it that way, I think it's a bit illogical to declare tonight now, even though I also think they should do that, starting from this point.

Very good innings this from Root, anyway.

Good job I should win over £2k this test given how today's football is shaping up for me.

Make it 2.6k by whacking that 2k on England!
