Short mid wickets and short extra's is the order of the day on a slow wicket. FAF been a little slow to pull them in. Personally I would bowl a leg stump line at pace with two short mid wickets a leg gully and backward square leg. 2 short extra's for the sla.

Maharaj is doing well

d'you think the draw price will come down much?
it must do a little bit if there are no further wickets. I suppose England could be one wicket down at tea and that would force the price a little nut the underlying feeling I guess is that it ain't gonna be a draw! Think I am going to leave this alone. I cashed out my draw for no gain or loss. Will back SA at higher prices as I still feel at this stage they are not out of it despite batting last ( assuming ) |

as if by magic two short extra's

Here we go, price break out!

Surely the prospect of the draw in your mind predominantly must lie with your opinions of how the England attack will fair?
Im not a massive fan of this attack to be honest but i had the same opinion Test2 and it wasnt a good one for me. |
By:
This is proving really attritional and is going to help England on the High Velt and quite possibly in the second innings here.
By:
No!
The prospect of the draw in my mind has everything to do with the pitch. Will it remain unhelpful to the bowlers. Will it dry out an spin? I think it will or will it die and allow the batsmen to bat out in so ruining my bet...I don't think so. SA could still come in to this if the ball reverses...will it? |
By:
"ripping turn and bounce!" that starts to kill all my draw fervour seeing that.
By:
two short mid wickets and he was gawn!

This is painful to watch, can't imagine Grant watching this!
By:
Draw price under pressure now and then so will SA
By:
Oh my!
By:
Draw just hit its lowest price and wicket

By:
leg gully...you heard it here first. A degree in the art of the bleedin' obvious Mr 'Death!

Nil desperandum. Root should get the score moving and hopefully AFTER he has played himself in will remove Maharaj from the attack!
By:
Joe Denly is a very decent T20 bat so its surprising how he gets stuck in red ball.
By:
It is a difficult wicket to score on I think.
I got more green on the Englerland than the draw atm |
By:
Bazza: "Why are England batting so slow? Deck, defensive batting or good bowling?" Because they've tried batting quickly for four years and generally ended up in a heap. Plus Nortje and Maharaj are in a very fine groove

fcektard Root! |

This is a sheitty Test Match wicket! need more pace off the pitch!

I think the market is a little confused here. two wickets down at tea and the draw is still 3.6? Obviously we all feel it will not be a draw!
England whilst painful are in the strongest position. They have the runs on the board. SA have been in the field while it has been warm. there may be cloud cover for the next couple of days. It will be cooler and there may be some wind assistance. |
By:
That Denly knock served no purpose then.
By:
Lest we forget!
Engerland 30-3, 40-4! All out against Ireland on the first morning at Lords! |
By:
not sure 135 represents runs on the board after 4,5 hours batting. I still can't see the first 2 innings being finished before day 4 with the weak English bowling line up.
By:
True enough but I do not expect SA to rack up 400 in a day! They also have to bat last and you can see the odd ball spinning already. Our spinner is not great but it is easier for a spinner to bowl when attacking shots carry risk.
I would rather be in Englands position here even though they have not looked convincing but they have imho batted themselves into a decent position if they can go on from here. |
By:
hmmn!
By:
By:
oh yes. Lets see how SA bat on this!
I would have expected England to score well in excess of 300. If they get to 300 now I will be happy. I thought both Denly and Crawley should have been getting forward to Maharaj and driving him more. Denly in particular was lbw to a full ball. |
By:
England are in a spot of bother here as if another wicket goes shortly we all know the last 5 wickets can easily collapse.
By:
Oh and England have Demon Leg Spinner Denly too!
By:
Pitch far too dry.
By:
agree with that roache. England definately vunerable here. If the pitch quickens up tomorrow we might be behind the 8 ball but I still think the toss will prove crucial

Day 1 knife edges so rare these days

A first innings lead is so important! England do not want to be playing ketchup!
A calypso collapso is an England forte. Take nothing for granted when it is your money! |
