Well I did say, before this series started, that Stuart Broad, would have a couple of great spells, where he'd get 3 or 4 wickets in a spell of bowling, as he had done this throughout his Test Match career, but today he ripped that up taking 8 in a spell.

If the wicket remains good for the next 3 days, Aus still in with a slim chance if they can knock over England for not too many more. Their top order capable of making a big score on a batting friendly wicket.

Their heads have gone, similar to what happened to England last time in Aus. In a 5 test series with back to back test matches & little cricket in between, it's almost impossible to iron out any technical deficiencies & mental issues against certain bowlers.
I would say Aus will make 250 max second dig & lose by an innings. Clarke looks absolutely shot, his body language & demeanor when he lost the toss was terrible. I thought he was going to cry!

Aus won the last Ashes 5-0 I believe.  So its not as bad as that as Eng in Aus. Aus also won a world cup in between. They are playing like a bunch of front running pea hearts at the moment though.

So true regarding the comparison between Ponting and Warne in the comm box, Lady Marge. I think Ponting has been outstanding and a real breath of fresh air. Capable of thorough objectivity and offering up some great insights. Warne, on the other hand, can only ever see things through the prism of his own rampant jingoism.

We don't give up, that's the Australian way," he said. "We can still find a way to save Ashes, but we've got to fight. --- Bowls Warner

I think, that was more down to the side that was selected, as Clarke has no say in the selection of the team, so he was really down, before the game started, as it wasn't the one he wanted and with the 3 early wickets in the first 9 balls, this spread right through the team. They will get back to be something like near normal today and there is cloud cover, at the moment, however this game and the series has gone for Australia. All they can hope for, is to get back some pride in their own performances and I reckon England will still get a 400 lead with the cloud cover and as England won't be quite as intense 2nd time around with a 400 lead, I reckon the Aussies will get between 275 and 350 in the 2nd innings.

the difference is england were marginal favourites going down under last time and it was always gonna be difficult just a few months after the home series. england were on a hiding to nothing then

this time oz were massive favourites. very few gave england a prayer. also several australian players shot their mouths off pre tour dismissing england's chances in a manner no england player would ever talk about the opposition

No matter what sport England play, if England are underdogs, they play well above themselves, but if they are favourites, they play poorly and I think that is just the way it is with with British Sports Men

Cloudy morning, but its not doing much, because  there is no new ball, available in 13 overs time, about an hour, when the sun is due to come out. Also Australia cannot afford to have 5 slips and are very much on the defensive.

And Mcilroy

When: 07 Aug 15 11:17
Yes, they do, but it is more team sports, that I was talking about. When I was a youngster, I always got taught to be a good loser Aand that is wrong, you should be a bad loser and not want to lose.
By:

And of course neither Murray or Mclroy are Englishmen.

The England mens football team seem to be only capable of beating inferior opposition. When did they last beat a top 6 team when it mattered? Lewis Hamilton, Brad Wiggins, Chris Hoy, Jess Ennis and Mo Farrah seem to win when they are favourites on the big stage. We are much better at individual sports than team ones over the years.

Michael Clark was asked if he had won the toss would he have batted or bowled on the opening day.

He answered, he wasn't sure so decided to do both. LaughLaughLaugh

Shame that Root gave his wicket away so easily but a great effort. We might struggle to last until lunch now.

not normally one to nitpick but plenty of teams end up batting and bowling on the first day.

Why Starc, can only bowl at 1 end and will need a rest, before the new ball. OK mike-lfc, it is more an english thing though

Aussie's bowling hasnt been tooooo bad. It's the batting. How are you supposed to win a game when your batsman are 15-5
