So much for win the toss, win the Test, which every pundit and his dog was predicting.

No Anderson. Wood the likely replacement. Shaun Marsh may replace Voges.

Last Test here, a high scoring draw, but previously a result venue.

I must admit as an Aussie, England looked the all round better side in the 3rd Test and deserved the win. No Anderson will shift the advantage to Aus and increase the chances the top order will make runs. Assuming a result pitch, I think Aus win this one, probably in 4 days.

Helps if batsmen have no idea where their off stump is too..

Hopefully it will not decide this match but on another day it might. Absolutely ridiculous to keep on doing it. On the other hand, before the instant replays most of these marginal no balls would not have been given by the umpitre so it would be out.
Report wondersobright August 7, 2015 5:39 PM BST
surely it is something that can be decided by hawkeye and therefore the 3rd umpire can monitor it for every delivery

I hate the system they have now which is only checking it after a wicket Sad

Show me a side that performs better away from home....

For a start, Aus would have lost, or will have lost 11 out of their last 20 matches away, not 13.  7 of those were in the first 10 of that series of games, meaning lost 4 of their last 10 away.

England in their last 20 have lost 9 games and won 6.  In their last 10, they have only won 1 match, and lost 6.  With half of them against WI and NZ.

Sure Aus don't travel very well, but at the end of the day, unless they are playing New Zealand, they are playing in a different hemisphere, not just a different country.

I've got tickets tomorrow. Was a bit gutted to be missing the local derby against Vale when the fixture computer pulled them out of the hat first match up at home at Gresty Road. Now it looks like I'm going to be able to see us win the Ashes and then go and watch Crewe beat Vale as well. Mind you, £75 tickets and £55 train tickets and a 6.30am start from Liverpool might be a bit steep for 6 overs or so tomorrow morning.

Would of been good for Aus to win in England to go with the historic series win in South Africa, winning the world cup and the 5-0 thrashing of Eng in the last Ashes. Oh well, looks like Aus just got tired of winning.

Nice to see Stuey Broad bounce back. He was a mess in Australia on the last Ashes tour when he felt the need to hire personal security guards to follow him around everywhere and then decided not to bowl for his team as Eng lost all 5 ashes tests.
Report nugget August 8, 2015 6:28 AM BST
It's not all bad seeing the Aus cricket team getting knocked down a peg or two, they were getting way too mouthy
Report johnnyrant August 8, 2015 9:04 AM BST
Got tired of winning? They have been found out, more like. Steve Smith well and truly found out. Clearly a flat-track bully. Oz recent test success was a false dawn. Hopefully Eng go on to win at the Oval too - see no reason why they won't given their supremacy.

Just a shame they decided to offer up a benign pitch at Lord's. No doubt if it had offered as much assistance as Edgbastion/Trent Bridge, it would be 4-0 heading to the Oval.
Report YOMOMMA August 8, 2015 9:27 AM BST

Report Whisperingdeath August 8, 2015 10:17 AM BST
AB and Amla definately the best. Kohli may get up there but not there yet.

I do wonder how the modern batsmen would have fared on uncovered wicketsLaugh. This talk of Gilchrist being a better batsman than Knott makes my blood boil. Not to say Gilly wasn't very good and maybe changed Test cricket but he batted after Warne and McGrath bowled and the likes of Ponting and Hayden had smited. I wonder how he would have fared when there was a fire in Babylon!
Report jollyswagman August 8, 2015 10:23 AM BST
i know its heresy, but i always considered hayden a flat track bully. how would he have got on against malcolm marshall? on the other hand when they talk about the modern greats its ponting/lara/tendulkar who always get mentioned. personally my favourite is the wall.
Report Only-the-Brave August 8, 2015 10:25 AM BST

To which Wellington replied, with equal restraint: “By God, Sir, so you have.”

The exchange has gone down in history as the example ne plus ultra of British reserve.

.....Despite the amputation going ahead without anaesthetic, Hume wrote in his report that the earl, “neither uttered groan or complaint nor gave any sign of impatience or uneasiness” (although he is reported to have remarked at one stage that the knife appeared a little blunt).

Afterwards, the doctor noted that Uxbridge’s skin was still “perfectly cool” and his pulse “gave only 66 beats to the minute.”
