Warne is whinging like an old fish wife

that's one of the biggest reservations i have about Cook as a captain..too cautious..he bats on too long when already in an insuperable position
declaration time..no need for this to go on past lunch 2moro..give ppl time to get into the new fitba season ![]() |

bairstow isn't looking all that convincing, and i reckon he has been pretty lucky.
|
|
By:
agree with that d style, has played some nice shots, but with him on 39 not out, you still feel, he could be out any ball soon.

So loose. Bat still coming down from 2nd slip.

ECB desperately hoping they dont have to refund Saturday

the thing about bairstow is that i reckon he's really really good against the bad ball.
but i think he's only just passable against good bowling, in fact he may even be deficient. and given that we bat so deep in this side, i don't think he's the right man at number 5. given that it seems root will eventually move up to 3, i think we need someone more technically correct and less bottom handed. that's not to say he shouldn't be competing with Buttler for the wicket keeping spot, or even Stokes if we'd played 4 specialist bowlers. |

and he's a ginger.

for the purists amongst us,at least when the test series is ended,we can look forward to some longer formats of the game..the ODIs & T20s

have to agree with both your last comments DStyle,.
Good luck to him for seizing the day. He has the confidence and ability and maybe Mahela might be able to sort out his technical deficiencies. I would make him play with a lighter bat to start with to make him earn his runs! So many players are bottom handed these days because the bats are awkward to wield. Play straight young man! |

I would have picked Hales and Taylor for Lyth and Buttler for this Test.
Not changing a team after a win is spineless. Lehman also spineless imo. I would have dropped Pup and played the Marsh bros. To deplete your bowling attack makes no sense. JB is an enigma. A standout candidate from county cricket but looks very vulnerable at this level. Better to be lucky than good though and good luck to the fella. |

absolutely effortless 100 from root
|

By:
yep. must strenthen the team when needed not just after a defeat! Spot on about the changes. Bairstow could stay on as wicket keeper for now. Lyth has to go. Taylor deserves chance. Need to give these guys a go before South Africa

Should the Aussies just head home tonight ? If it was a fight the ref would have stepped in by now

bring back NZ for the oval test imo...series decider!!
|
|
By:
maybe i'm being hypercritical but that was a poor way to get out in as much as his score flattered him & he didn't get punished for a fair few involuntary shots
|

I hope for Stuart Broad's sake that Aussie haven't taken the Queen's shilling here. Like when he got that big hundred against Pakistan

close run thing whether this is more one sided than boxing day 2010

what a spineless effort, so un australian. surely when they get home the captain, selectors and coach must all be under big pressure. agree with all the above about bairstow, does anyone know what taylor has done wrong/who he has upset?
|
|
By:
yes, they usually put up a fight, but today all they have put up is the surrender flag.
|
|
By:
geoffrey is having a field day on tms and clarke saying 'ask the selectors' again when asked about the team they have put out.
|
|
By:
which is why when asked at the toss, if he thought going in with just 4 bowlers, he became very tetchy and wanted to get away from the interview very quickly.
|
|
By:
Our selection has been all over the place and has sent out mixed signals to all and sundry. All credit to England they have battered us in every department. I can handle us getting beat but to play like a load of women and have no guts or fight is unforgivable. If I hear Clarke say he's working hard at his game anymore I will throw up. You have to have the ability and I'm afraid as a player his deterioration over the last 12-24 months has been evident.

Warne couldn't be a good loser if he tried. Seething as Bairstow and Root put his boys to the sword after tea.
Pointing on the other hand was exceedingly gracious and is also far more insightful than Botox man |
|
By:
Take a bow, @joeroot05! First batsman in history of #theashes to score a century on the first day by the team batting 2nd. Stupendous!

Rooty couldn't have picked a better place to hit his century ball. The ad hoarding is irony at it's greatest
