Clarke won't be rolling no dice, will not want to become the first Australian side to lose four nil.

I'm with bpp here with the draw being too short. Weather seems to be clearing up today - think we get most of the day's play in. Worry is Saturday's forecast but we know how that changes in the UK. Bit I don't agree on is it being a featherbed. There was enough there with the new ball and there was turn very early on. That only get's worse throughout imo. Watson made it look easier than it is by taking apart some very shoddy bowling at times with some decent counter attacking. Made the most of the lifelines he was given.
Aus well on course for the win. |

Guess we'll find out. England bowled poorly for mine. Not that I think it's offering a loads, but there's enough to take wickets and defo encouraging signs for the next few days. This rain/humidity should help, along with the usual deterioration as the match goes on. England to shot Aus out for around 400/450 around tea would set things up nicely.

draw lay for me too ... can see Australia struggling to 400-420 here hopefully ,can't see the draw back training to the line , theres bound to be some sort of collapso during the remainder of the test...

FY various I's, it's been raining all morning in Surrey, about 10 miles South. Still drizzling, and they currently wouldn't be playing if it was in my back garden. It'd be unlikely they'd play anyway, on account of the tomato plants getting in the way, but that's not all that relevant.

Can the Aussies, have another good day, they played well on a batsman friendly pitch. Now we have a really interesting scenario, in this match. Australia ought to get close to 500 and I always think the team batting 2nd will struggle, after fielding for nearly 2 days. Are the Aussies capable of bowling well, when on top, they ought to be able to do so, but these are the 2013 Aussies. 500 or more just after tea, or a big collapse this morning. Whatever happens I am not expecting Australia to win this match, as they have forgotton, how to win Test Matches.
|
|
By:
Same scenario as when the Aussies won their other toss in the series, huge score on the board and the pressure is on 450+ runs are all they have to get here and they can win this test like they should of the previous time they won the toss but the rain intervened.

Eng focus a big question (in the event they have to either follow a score of 500, or save a game where the target is 380 on the last day, or both, or save a follow on that's 350 or something). Yes I think england would love to win because 4-0 would be a great achievement, but once the win has gone I'm not sure there's a lot of difference between 3-0 and 3-1. All this talk of the effect of this game on Brisbane smacks of TV talk (to be fair, they've got to try to wring any drama out of any game). Eng weren't particularly focused in a similar situation at OT when they all rocked up late on Day 5 thinking the weather was gonna take care of business and found themselves 3 down in no time, and the series was still alive at that point.
The prices here are what you would expect if this game was 1st in the series. |

And Australia, had to get another 7 wickets, which as a losing side they probably wouldn't have.

People treating the pitch as golden because Aus have a decent start? Are you seriously suggesting that Woakes/Kerrigan bowling most of the day equates to quality bowling on a good pitch?
Harris/Siddle/Starc a completely different proposition. IF they get to bowl today. Sure they will, but 400 on this pitch seems very big. Only 1 big score, the rest struggled. England played 2 spinners for a reason, because the pitch was prepared that way. Dry, and will turn soon. |
