Don't be in denial. You in the 1840's were at least on a par with the nazis, you committed genocide on a huge scale by the worst means, starvation.
By:
You see pl that is part of the problem right there , there was never any attempt to commit mass murder of Irish people , no one was sent to the gas chambers , yes mistakes were made , bad mistakes but it was not anything to be compared to the holocaust
Your attempt to compare that is frankly sickening and disrespectful to those who went through the gates into of Belsen and into the gas chambers |

Here we go .... what is history ?
Major error by my grandfather to move to UK , worked 35 years on the underground in london, served in british army. If he hadn't of done our family would have starved. |
By:
I dunno if A J P taylor was anti british anti irish or what, but i think you will find he is a very famous great british historian and he said that the famine was the irish belsen as i recall
By:
pl those are quotes and they are wrong
You see they claim that Britain did this deliberately because it was struggling to feed its own No that’s not true , Britain was not struggling to feed its own , it didn’t need anything from Ireland and would not have starved without it I can assure you It was a continuation of trade as it had always been , but unfortunately circumstances changed , and almost overnight and Britain didn’t react quickly enough or decisively enough to combat the threat and the needs of the people Now that’s what happened., not good , but that is typical government **** up and incompetence ,it had terrible consequences But for you to say that it was what the British government wanted and compare it to the holoucast is disgraceful and wrong |

"Among such reputable scholars Lyons must have had in mind A.J.P. Taylor, the distinguished if controversial historian of modern Germany, whose review of The Great Hunger appeared in the New Statesman and was later reprinted under the title ‘Genocide’ in his Essays in English History. At times Taylor sounded just like the famous revolutionary nationalist John Mitchel. In the late 1840s, declared Taylor with a sweeping reference to the notorious German extermination camp, ‘all Ireland was a Belsen’. He minced no words: ‘The English governing class ran true to form. They had killed two million Irish people.’ And that the death toll was not higher, Taylor savagely remarked, ‘was not for want of trying’. As evidence, he offered the recollection of Benjamin Jowett, the Master of Balliol: ‘I have always felt a certain horror of political economists since I heard one of them say that the Famine in Ireland would not kill more than a million people, and that would scarcely be enough to do much good’."

Irishone your grandfather moved to England , be thankful to England
By:
Hope the horses are treating you ok Irishone,
It is history indeed, i am taking exception though to the "Ireland should be thankful to England", agree it isn't all wrong and like your own family i have worked in England, hard work, not great pay at times, done a job and paid taxes, that is currently reciprocated by the UK numbers working in the ROI. |
By:
Yes it is history and history shows it was Britain that gave you a job and a place to live , a good place
Be thankful |
By:
Now we are in negotiations with the EU. countries like Germany , remember them your new friends
Please don’t mention the war and the holocaust to them , thanks |
By:
I am thankful to England for many things but if you travel and live elsewhere, you soon realise that the UK is not what it used to be.
There is a massive difference between the people. I find in the UK you are likely to find different attitudes, "dog eat dog", "me me me", "money money money" .... you can find the same thing often in the Irish cities particularly Dublin. I don't know if its down to religion or what. here's another massive difference. I was walking with my daughter through a Surrey town and said hello to a passer by , she said dad dont do that, he will think you are gay ! Now if you walk down an irish street , be it galway or dublin and say hello to someone , vast majority will say hello back. Try doing that in London. |
By:
irishone I think we all know that , it is what it is
By:
Its spiv culture that has done that sort of thing , nobody gives a fook anymore due to the rat race and the me me me society encouraged by the free market fanantics , what did Thatcher say - there is no such thing as society

The other things I am thankful for are the fact that the price of my house went up so much that one was able to pay off the interest only mortgage which turned out to be a rip off.
I was also thankful they returned all the bank and credit card charges which they had taken from me illegally, as well as the PPI refund received when it was established that was illegal too. I am also thankful that my friends often come over here from England to stay with us, and say you don't know how good you have it over here mate. That means a lot as well. |

By:
Yes isn’t Britain terrible to the Irish , we should be thoroughly ashamed :(
By:
"it is what it is"
OK Love that phrase. Wonder if these conversations ever took place ? 1916 We need to get rid of the British from Ireland .........cant.... it is what it is 1941 we need to stop Hitler killing Jews in europe ...... cant.... it is what it is 2016 we need to get out of the E U .........................cant ...it is what it is...OOOPS |
By:
You’re confused again irishone , where did I say we shouldn’t do anything about it ?
You see that’s why we are leaving the EU , we want to change things Understand ? |
By:
Why do you feel the need to educate me ?
Why do you feel the need to tell me I'm confused ? it is what it is ...... |
By:
exactly so , don’t think that I feel the need to educate you irishone , you’re not that important , don’t allow yourself to believe anything else
It is what it is |

I’m simply saying there shouldn’t be the right to live in the U.K. , from this point on , following Brexit , for anyone not here now
By:
So once more you prove that you don't understand the words you type. It's no good typing words if you don't understand what they mean.
By:
And that should include Ireland
By:
So do you think the Yanks allegiance is to the UK or the USA?
By:
I don’t care , I like the Americans
By:
You can dress it up any way you want but their allegiance is to the USA. that's how it is.
By:
And there is one good thing about them , they don’t have the right to live in the U.K.
By:
You are confirming your inability to understand words once more.
By:
Charlie there are millions of people living in Britain , whose allegiance is not to this country
The Americans are the least of our problems |
By:
Don't try and weasel you way out as you normally do. You said it all with "I don’t care , I like the Americans". You are a biased, blinkered, racist fool.
By:
I don’t like all Americans , I like the republican ones
By:
Just read my previous post.
