I'm not thankful to Britain. There were ways they (we) could have avoided the wars. The loss of very brave men on both sides of the conflict is so sad. As for the families they left behind it was worse as they could grieve.
Explain please Charlie? Particularly interested how we could have avoided WW2? |
By:
He will say Hitler and Germany was forced into it by too onerous war reparations after WW1
Well that was Hitler’s excuse , Hitler also had an excuse for murdering millions in the gas chambers as well You know the strange thing about evil is it can always find a reason |
By:
Don’t worry , he won’t say anything original
By:
When Hitler came to power Germany had paid about one eighth of the debt , Hitler refused to pay any more
The debt was finally paid back about 20 years after German reunification |
By:
Britain was in debt to America after WW1, which we have never paid back
couldn’t afford to because of the crash in the 1930s The Americans are very good and don’t mention it |

lfc, loving facts myself, i feel compelled to remind you it was the Irish who broke the code.
That is a fact, please don't forget the facts. That lot you had at Bletchley Park could not break wind. |
By:
That’s interesting pecker , I never knew that I thought it was Alan Turing and someone called van Newman or something like that
By:
You’ll be telling us the Irish invented the atom bomb next
By:
No, we leave that to rogue nations.

ebul it was Ireland’s decision whether or not to join the battle to destroy the evil of Nazi Germany , that was their decision
But they didn’t , the sat back and left it to Britain That Britain fought in every corner of the world and in every theatre of that war in that great undertaking is to their eternal glory , and that Ireland sat back , safe , and with its arms folded is to their eternal shame What eternal shame?????? A lot of Irish Patriots had been killed by British troops in their fight for independence from Britain. It would have dishonoured them for the Southern Irish to fight alongside their killers. There were Irish fighting for us in WW11, from the North of Ireland, they had elected to stay with the UK, they did their duty and fought and died for the UK. |
By:
Why don't you admit it lfc1971, you just don't like the Irish?
What were the British ever doing in Ireland anyway, it is not our country it is their country! |
By:
It would have dishonoured them for the Southern Irish to fight alongside their killers.
They wouldn't have been long screaming for our assistance had the Nazis invaded them UBLE. BTW it is to their eternal shame as the Nazis posed as big a threat to their freedom as it did ours and France and etc etc. Yet they sat back fingers crossed that we'd win and they'd be safe albeit some of their countrymen did join the fight. |
By:
Albeit some of their country men did join the fight.
Google the amount , per head of capita the irish were just fractionally behind the British despite all that had went before. Pretty impressive imo. |
By:
And that was fighting in the British army btw, not even sure if the British figures had discounted the irish presence.
By:
Yes it was a tremendous show but it rubbishes the claim of UBLE that had the ROI joined the fight it would have dishonoured those that fought for independence.
By:
And the treatment these soldiers got on their return to the ROI was shameful.
By:
70,000 is not some, it`s a huge number.
By:
The UK couldn`t have defended itself if Hitler had invaded, let alone Ireland in the event of Nazi occupation.
By:
It rubbishes my claim akabula...not really
Some felt like I said, others did not, and decided to join the fight against Germany |
By:
You’re missing the point , they were fighting in the British army , it was Britain that declared war on Nazi Germany , not Ireland
Be thankful to Britain |
By:
Ireland refused to fight , the only English speaking nation that did not fight
To their eternal shame |
By:
And the treatment these soldiers got on their return to the ROI was shameful.
That is a pity akabulla..but it rather supports my argument that quite a few would have regarded it as colluding with the enemy Britain???? |
By:
Ebul the enemy was Nazi gernany
By:
That was a once in a 100,000 years war , never to repeated
By:
Thank God Britain did it’s duty and saved the world
By:
The Irish suffered greatly from the British over the centuries...not Nazi Germany.
By:
Nazi Germany was not defeated by Britain alone, although we did our share
It was the Soviet Union that crushed Hitler's army imo |
By:
No that’s wrong , I’ve explained before that Ireland with other foreign enemies of England tried to overthrow England’s parliament , gained after a bloody civil war in England ending the absolute monarchy , the first democratic parliament . Now that was a big mistake on Ireland’s part
If you are part of the war then you can’t expect not to suffer the consequences now can you |
By:
ebul Russia along with Hitler started the war , and Russia enslaved half of Europe after the war
So pipe down about Russia |
By:
Well if you stand by that UBLE you are saying these 70,000 men dishonoured those that fought for freedom.
By:
Russia murdered and enslaved millions of their own people during the war and after , they also were not called the army of rapists for nothing
By:
Some estimates say that the Russians raped as many as 2 million German woman and others from the ages of 8 to 80
So shut up about Soviet Russia |
By:
themightymac
The UK couldn`t have defended itself if Hitler had invaded, let alone Ireland in the event of Nazi occupation. How do you arrive at that Mac? But that aside the ROI would have been looking for us to come to their aid. |
By:
By the way the British and American allies captured and killed more Germans than Russia did
Plus there was Japan and Italy also |
By:
btw the Russians killed 1.9 million German soldier in battle and took 2,500,000 prisoners with just over 1 million surviving.
The Allied forces killed 400,000 German soldiers and took 1,300,00 prisoners. That makes a total of approximately 4,400,000 German soldiers lost to Russia and 1,700,000 to the Allies. Not even close but don`t let facts stand in the way of your bigoted and biased viewpoint. |
By:
Themightymac too late to check all but your figures are wrong
For starters more than 2.8 million German soldiers surrendered on the western front between D day and the end of April 1945 |
By:
The western allies killed and took prisoner more german soldiers than the Russians
By:
Plus there was Japan and Italy
