akabula - Agree , it's all about perception , but the worry here is that new laws have been brought in whereby one can be charged and convicted if ones comments were perceived to have caused offence . The law no longer requires one to actually cause offence . (not sure on the exact wording) . This whole episode highlights the problems our lawmakers have created .

I don't think he thought he was doing anything racist simply on the basis that surely and esp given a man of his life experience, that he would ever of put it out there knowing her heritage, still not my cup of tea though.
A bit like Kelvin McKenzie who was dropped from the sun for making some comparison between Ross Barkley and a Gorilla, unaware Barkley's grandfather was black. Looking at Meghan Markle, I would not have guessed either that she had black heritage, when I first saw her I thought she maybe of middle Eastern heritage, Lebanonese maybe, and wouldn't have guessed about Barkley either, or Tony Bellew come to that. |

Now the BBC have decided "offensive" tweets are fair game, I'm sure Frankie Boyle's p45 will be in the mail next time he steps over the line?
|
|
By:
But anyone who did draw the comparison must have such thoughts embedded in their belief system which suggests that they associate apes with ethnicity , which one would only do if one was inherently racist .
That was some statement to make Reynard. I think in that you've caused offence with that. |

The way things are going I'll be surprised if some virtue waving people haven't already complained to the police.
Despite what I've said about DB sacking him seems a tad draconian. He's explained his intention, apologised for any offence taken and removed the post. |

Micky Flanagan did a Nigerian accent on Mock the Week some years ago. Dara o Briain said it was racist and told him to stop!
I think it highlights the madness very well.55 second clip. https://youtu.be/MQNI7X0aNEs |

I don't think anybody truly believes Danny Baker is a racist - 30 years in broadcasting with no previous is enough to prove that - this was a simple mistake, and it's a sad day when someone can't make an innocent mistake without being sacked. Our media has always been terrible, it seems its getting worse
|
|
By:
of course its racist because danny baker is not one of the so called elite,he is like us so we can commit fraud, racism and such but the elite cant, they just make mistakes

On the "Rotherham" thread I pointed out I was amazed the BBC managed to mention (briefly) the latest round of arrests for the industrial scale abuse in Rotherham, that they always pointedly avoid covering for PC reasons, and I made the quip about the coverage if some celeb makes a non PC tweet. I'm not even sure I was aware of the Danny Baker story at that point but as I've said that before. E.g. referencing the ridiculous coverage they give anything non PC that Trump tweets that annoys the snowflakes while trying to ignore other far more serious stories. And then at 1pm .. this Danny Baker "white man offends the SJWs" story got about as much coverage as the various Rotherham industrial scale r@pe cases have had over the last years .. COMBINED. Currently still #2 story on the BBC site. As always their priorities are very "BBC".

BBC have never been so fond of hanging one of their own out to dry . Wish they'd done it 30-odd years ago

And it's again item on the 6 oclock news. Next time a gang of 15 men in the UK are convicted of drugging, assaulting and r@ping 100s of women and girls, watch with interest as the BBC give it max 20 seconds coverage in the final "small news roundup", if anything at all. Balance the importance of these stories in your mind.

headline news on BBC 6PM News!!
They love it!! |

*main item. And again, LOL the BBC are censoring the picture.

About a two minute headline news report just attacking Baker.
Then onto something else. BBC are filth they really are.... |

and we have no real choice but to pay for it
|

I would support the idea that the accusation of racism is now used far too often.
That said you have to wonder whether Baker has a screw loose. What was he thinking? What was the point? Very lucky that he is in a position where he can afford to get himself sacked. |

Haven't paid the licence in several months.. Asked for meetings with senior editors. Denied. Nasty letters then stopped.
'Mr.. you have a licence until August'. Cowards. |

I haven't paid a TV licence since 2012 . I was informed 4 years ago that my address was 'under investigation' . Just empty threats designed to obtain money from vulnerable people . Evil predators and purveyors of propaganda

Memo from the BBC this afternoon.
Can any ethnic presenters who were “shocked or stunned” by Danny Bakers tweet please report to the DG, as we need someone to beef up our 6.00 news lead. P.S There’s a monkey in it for you! |

Social media is doing what it was engineered to do,destroy robust and reasonable debate.
Think about it,10 years ago if Baker had published the picture on a noticeboard at work there would have been a few laughs, yes maybe someone might have said"dont you think that's a little racist Danny" and he might have said back "do you think so? I"ll take it down" End of story. |

imagine if he had spat at someone That would depend on the ethnicity of the individual on the receiving end . Indigenous = verbal warning / short suspension on full pay . Non-indigenous = Charged with assault , convicted , 18-24 months imprisonment . |

Two ways of approaching the news of a royal birth:
1) Baker's way (its parents are posh - let's have a bit of fun at their expense) 2) Twitter's way (genetically it's 12.5% black, you know - let's see who hasn't got this at the forefront of their thinking). |

I would just like to point out that the primate in the picture is a chimpanzee, which are NOT monkeys, they are apes
you can bet your bottom dollar that those taking offence to the tweet are all white people, your typical liberals just dying to take offence to something If I saw this tweet I honestly wouldn't twig at all about the connotations, I think you've got to be looking pretty hard to spot it, and be inclined to notice such things |
|
By:
The BBC have moved quickly to get someone to fill Baker's Saturday morning slot, Geoff Lloyd shown in their online schedule already.
Never heard of him. |

"we all evolved from apes"
But somehow they manage to spin this none story as racism, because a mainly white baby has been sattired as a chimp in a suit You could not make this s*** up if you tried, but somehow they've managed it, and actually convinced people of it as well ![]() ![]() |

Never heard of this guy but surely when he tweeted he knew what would happen? He works for BBC. I mean you write or post something and don't realize it goes against your employer's well known policies? How is this possible? I'm not sure how successful this guy is but if you are struggling with publicity in show biz this is the kind of act that gets you back in the game. No publicity is bad publicity.
As for the backlash there is nothing to see there. The media got something to feast on for the day. Come Monday no one will remember this. Everyone loves to complain so they are given a new thing to complain about every now and then. Works every time. |

There's a tweet from Lord Sugar from last year
Under a photo of the Senegal football team lining up for a pre-match photo, there is a blanket spread out covered with cheap sunglasses. He has tweeted: 'I recognise some of these guys from the beach in Marbella. Multi-tasking resourceful chaps' The BBCs celebrity Apprentice was heralded by them a month or two ago. Compare this to Danny Baker's faux-pas and the comparative outcomes and BBC handling |
|
By:
Both Mr Baker and Mr Sugar are working class London lads made good , employed by the same broadcasting institution . The only difference I observed it that one of them is now titled .
Can't throw a 'sir' to the wolves can they ? And there was another titled fellow who worked for the BBC a few years ago who should have been thrown to the wolves , literally ![]() |
