Is there ANYONE, ANYONE on here (or even in the whole of Britain) who SERIOUSLY thinks that a chimpanzee dressed as a toff looks like a mixed-race male baby?  Or even a mixed-race male adult for that matter?

Can only think this is a deliberately mischievous post.

There was a bloke who lived in Haltwhistle who wouldn't look out of place on Planet Of The Apes that people called monkey man he was a white 60 odd year old nobody has ever came close in my eyes to resembling a chimp than him,the racial overtones are personal perception being used in a sinister manner here imo.

Can't believe the pathetic national joke that is the BBC blurred that photo to stop offending people. What goes on in their ****wited heads?
I still can't get over what a righteous politically correct laughing stock the BBC has become. Do they not know this themself?

There is nothing in that photo that is of itself offensive. Not a thing. It's no more offensive than women sticking their dogs in angel costumes or dressing them as little men. FFS I've seen clips on TV where monkeys poo into their own hands and throw it at grannies watching them!

I didn't know DB often did the 'famous people as chimps' routine. That changes things a lot.

Ironically it's the media who have banged on about Meghan's colour ever since Harry met her. The BBC couldn't stop celebrating a mixed race kid being born to royalty.

It was sickening. From Day 1 the kid is identified by his skin colour!!!

There is no sense of perspective in the Orwellian Britain of today.

A slap on the wrist would have been the sensible result but it always the firing squad in this insane asylum.

He claims that he apologised and removed the tweet when somebody pointed out that Mrs Markle was mixed race . He wasn't aware that she wasn't caucasian .
Whether this is true or not , and I have no reason to disbelieve him , those who took offence to the tweet are actually the racists . I saw it and immediately assumed it was a dig at the priviledge of monarchy . I never for a second saw a correlation between a chimp and persons of colour . It never entered my head .
But anyone who did draw the comparison must have such thoughts embedded in their belief system which suggests that they associate apes with ethnicity , which one would only do if one was inherently racist .

That's the first I've saw the pic.
I didn't know that DB had a theme going with monkeys/famous people and found it strange.
When I heard about it on the news I couldn't believe how stupid he was but can see now where he was coming from.
No matter what surely as 626 posted this is nothing more than a word in the ear job.
I totally disagree with your last sentence Reynard. Football fans have made monkey noises at black players over the years.
So for someone to remember that and see that pic as racist hardly makes them a racist.

Sorry Denzil , I didn't read many posts cos quite frankly I am sick and tired of hearing about this racism rubbish . When labels get thrown around unnecessarily their meaning is devalued to such extent that when the label is applied correctly it doesn't have the same effect as it should .

It's a sad day when people are sacked for a tweet, a joke or an opinion and are not allowed to apologise and move on.

Ben Stokes punched a fella 15 times and was never sacked by England. Israel Falau was sacked for an opinion.

Says the fella who's called me a racist at least 3 times on here.

blackbarn - I think it was meant as a satirical reference to the monarchy (ie. anything can be dressed up to look like a 'toff') . You may be too young to remember satire from years ago when it was alive and well .

akabula - The 'monkey chants' that you refer to are racist and offensive to any right minded individual and are rightly seen for what they are . Racist .
However , a monkey dressed like a human child (no specific colour) is not automatically racist , Ill-advised humour maybe , but not racist .

Back in 1982, when Baker was writing the T-Zers column at the back of the NME, he was a lot more robust about this of thing.

He ran an item about some earnest, middle-class, white American rock band (Talking Heads possibly, you know the sort) who were making a huge deal out of supposedly incorporating African music into their latest LP, on account of that being where rock music's roots lie, actually. "Cut to scene in jungle," wrote Baker, "with baffled tribesmen examining flying-V guitars and trying to use snare drums as hats."

He has a long history of calling out people who patronise other ethnic groups. He ought to realize that those claiming to take offence in this case are no different, and stand up for himself.

On the other hand, when you're 61 it's sometimes easier just to walk away and say, okay, all right, you lot win.

Reynard - I am 67 and remember the glory days of satire very well. I read your 16.45 post very carefully before responding. The problem is that the sophistication of your assessment would pass by 90% of the population, hence the issue.

That's nonsense Reynard. You're saying that depicting a child as a monkey is never racist. Give yourself a shake.
I don't think that DB was being racist but it tells you that he isn't the most intelligent person in the world for not seeing that it could be seen in that context given the mixed race of the baby.

But surely Alfie is a baby, a very young child. He is NOT to be defined by his skin colour!!!!!

Morgan Freeman said we MUST stop talking about skin colour and I think he's right.

I actually said that depicting a child as a monkey isn't automatically racist . Big difference .
It obviously depends on context , but given Mr Bakers propensity for tweeting similar pictures which have not , to the best of my knowledge , caused such a storm , I would suggest that no racial offence was intended .

Danny continued: ‘I can understand [why he was sacked]. I was given a lecture which I have to say I terminated after about 30 seconds with words I’ll leave you to fill in. I get that. I get the position I’m in now.’

He also said: ‘An old trope of mine, I used to do it on the radio, is monkeys dressed as famous people plus fairground music. Look, I put out this gag, it could have been any posh people – even my own grandkids, I think I would have stuck a photo out of them leaving the hospital. And people get in touch and people say “you know there’s a race thing in this?” So I take it down. You’re in the barrel.

You're moving the goal posts Reynard.
We're talking about perception here and not everybody, myself included, was aware of the chimp/famous people theme.
Still not aware btw but taking whats been said on here as gospel.
AS for DB saying he wasn't aware that Meghan was of mixed race I simply don't believe him.

Who would have thought that a black and white photo of a chimpanzee, dressed up in the togs of a toff, would have to be pixellated for public consumption?

This is the maddest act of censorship since the days of Gordon Brown's pixellated children.

God help Attenborough and his wildlife programmes. The public clearly would have to be protected against the sight of a baboon with anything resembling a red derriere.
