...but by going & doing a menial job I feel I'd be lowering myself & would lose that sense of pride , losing my true identity in a sense

Hi McMoonbeam.

I don't quite follow the statement here. If I have it right you've never worked, and don't want to lower your perceived standards by taking a menial job.

If everyone with no academic achievements, or specialist training, had the same viewpoint we wouldn't have bin men, labourers of all kinds,
farm workers etc etc!

Many people start at the bottom and finish up in top positions. My sister started off in the bakery at Schofield's, Leeds, and finished up as a buyer.

I will say best of luck anyway.

Duncan Banatyne was an ice cream vendor and there are very many more like him.

I think that the truth is that you just don't want to work and, the longer you leave it, the more impossible it will become.

Your thread has achieved an astonishing amount of views and replies, along with some excellent advice.

All you need to do now is take it!

The quote of the year for me is "Life is for living" by McMoonbeam!!  LaughLaughLaugh

I wish that some of you would stop giving advice like 'talk to randomers while shopping'. Think of the poor recipients of his woe! Sad

Clydebank and Aunty Post have the gist of it. You are bone-idle. You are totally self-obsessed. You are prepared to cheat and lie in order to get the working population to give even MORE money than you already have salted away. You seem to have a highly over-inflated opinion of your present value as a potential employee. Your posts are just wallowfests of your distorted view of how you arrived at this point, and who is responsible for it.

"Life is for Living"?...Ebeneezer Scrooge had more fun than Moonbeam! Shocked

There are pages of replies on this thread, none of which will achieve ANYTHING. He will still carry on with his grand ideas of being a brilliant cardsharp whilst trying to milk 'free' money from the public coffers.

I know nothing of all this poker terminology...But I DO know that I would find a new job if mine made me so ****g miserable!

I`m glad moony has at least got money. It`s 100 times worse suffering from depression and having f*** all. I sincerely wish him well, depression is a dreadful illness, but I think if he was in Heaven he would want out.

The thread is just going around in circles.

Lots of good advice given here, by myself included Wink but it seems to be wasted on you mate. At the end of the day McMoon, you won't achieve anything by moaning on here, a gambling forum. I feel you don't want to actually change your circumstances, you just wanted to let off a bit of steam?

Ok, that's done, you have let off some steam, now decide what to do: Makes changes to your lifestyle and see if that makes you happy OR don't make changes and stay in the same mindset. I think you just wanted to connect with people on here when you started this post. I don't think you actually want to change. But GL. Just my opinion.
By:

I do want to change & would like a meaningful job (yes I have worked in a number of dead end jobs but not for many years)

I just feel it's too late for me to start over again , maybe I'm wrong , but becoming a binman wouldn't achieve anything

I appreciate other people have worse problems than me Clydebank but as Gery says problems affect people in different ways & have serious problems myself

I'm not bone idle & I don't 'milk the system' so stop labling me with that brush at the first available opportunity as I'm merely 'thinking out loud' about it & distressed with my current situation

I've read about Duncan Banatyne , he fought over ice cream turf wars like a Gangster if you must know Aunty , but now he's the cream in your eyes as you sit in your armchair marvelling over him on your television screen , but alls well that ends well , is that what you're trying so hard to tell me Cool

moony has got a point ,trying to make a business work in this country (unless you have a much sought after skill - plumbing, dentistry etc ) is like trying to climb Mt Everest wearing carpet slippers  with a chest freezer strapped to your back .

1 in 100 might make it .

attempting to 'climb your way up' is laughable to say the least  Laugh

There are numerous online courses to improve or just learn. It's never too late McMoon. If you have an idea then you should go for it, it doesn't have to cut into your savings. Some of the best idea's have come from nothing, even the Duncan Bannatine Ice Cream van wouldn't have cost much to set up, just a will to succeed.

Hey if you want to start your own business go ahead Moonbeam it is your decision

I see a lot, how much money do they make, a lot go skint, but if you have an idea go ahead

My earlier suggestion seems best for you
Sell your flat
Buy a house
Get in a lodger
- your house won't be completely your own, but you suffer from being on your own anyway, you just have to find the right one,
quiet, no trouble , someone you can chat to now and then
Their rent is your free income
- you said you did not need a lot to live on
Carry on with the poker
This sounds like something you may do

I do not think you have milked the system, you have just never been in it

unless you're a good bare knuckle fighter and have some tasty backup, I wouldn't recommend it.

These pitches are absolute goldmines, and are usually well very 'protected' by established sellers.

Set aside a few ££ and give it a go

agreed. Getting the qualifications are the one thing - the difficult part is getting a company to give you a placement for the necessary work experience.

Local companies generally won't help because they know that once you are fully qualified you then become competition and a threat to their livelihood .

When I were a lad I ran away and joined the Circus. Started off as a Clown and learned how to become a lion tamer in my spare time and became the best in the business. The Circus closed 10 years later and I had to sign on the dole. "What`s your trade?", the guy in the Job Centre asked. "Lion Tamer", I replied. "More like a Lyin *******", he retorted. Crazy

Cheers Gery

I appreciate you taking the time to think it all through so carefully & is actually a very good idea Happy

I have considered buying a house & letting a couple of rooms but it'd have to be the right kind of house , modern & friendly environment

Being on your own kind of moulds you to the fact that you're stuck on your own sometimes but I'm a decent enough person that lodgers probably wouldn't mind being around too much , though I do like my own space & privacy a great deal too

The only other way for me would to be try & buy another cheap flat & let that for a small income , but is a lot of trouble & risk for the kind of flats I could buy & I'd be almost broke apart from the £3-400 income I'd get from a flat

I could still make that work but at least with one house I'd be in control a lot more , 1 council tax to pay etc .. & even if lodgers moved on as they will do the house is still mine to live in as I please .

I do not think you have milked the system, you have just never been in it

This is much more the truth that the doo gooders that naydam have never been faced with , if you get off to a bad start in life it's extremely difficult to ever really 'fit in' & get started again as society is against you every step of the way !

Glad you had a Lucky kinda day Coach Cool

Yep of course it's the only kind of betting I do now apart from the poker

I used to do well enough at it but although I know the game/markets i just can't seem to get ahead on here any longer

I had a good night last week on the Champions league , then lost 1.5 times my profit next night on Europa league (never touching it again)

I could of won this weekend , picked out an acca but never put it on for Saturday as I just felt depressed & slept late , would've won on the united match today but again didn't feel upto it , just not as confident football betting as I used to be it's a cruel game at times Sad

I agree Coach
I've never disliked any (apart from the odd 1 or 2) on here over the years & have always tried to help others (despite all the abuse i seem to get) but have posted less lately as my head is just totally screwed up & guys on here (like you consider a good mate) are the only kind that really understand my mindset , as you say it's just a cruel world we're forced to live in at times
But thanks to everybody for the replies I'm starting to feel a bit more positive & that can be half the battle at times Happy
