I just made a long post and then deleted it as I didn't want to upset Mc M as I was being a bit brutal, tough love if you will.

However, I'll repeat some of it as it's relevant. McM, busting your balls having a completely insular existence for a poxy tenner an hour is complete and utter madness and you know deep down it's all wrong. You are no Phil Ivey or Daniel Negreanu, really you need a complete reality check and to evaluate what is important in your world as as things stand you come across as being a manic depressive and in need of help.

Thanks Gery
I wish you all the best too Happy

I cannot ask your age as that is too personal. But you must not let your life drift away.

I'm 39 & letting my life drift away is the worse feeling I think that's a lot of the anxiety tbh

Bhoys I feel for you as you're stuck in the Benefits Trap , but nobody's ever given me anything on a plate I've always used my initiative & got out there & taken it though understand there's no money in the area you live , have you ever considered just moving away Confused

I guessed that you were much older than 39.

In your position,i'd find a job as quickly as possible,
any job to begin with and then look for something better.

Yes true but that's just how it is now Slippy

Like I say i have had the good times too but what am I supposed to do

Where do I go for this reality check you so often mentionConfused

and to get any help I'd need the time to do so .. which is fine for all these scroungers on the Dole

Naydam , Moonylad will be paying as much in tax as anyone  unless he's in the big bucks league.

The first 10k a week i believe of salary is tax free  ,  he will be paying VAT on most goods and VAT on transactions with his property .Then there's premium charge which taxes you  from the off - some of that goes to the coffers.

the UK benefits more from Pro gamblers residing here than we benefit from the UK i'd say at a guess  .

Not sure what the NI threashold is though . We all contribute though

I agree with the post slippy made or did not make. Its not a question of money Moonbeam. I don't know you well enough but if I did know you as a closer friend than I do my advice would be a lot more blunt about some things. Think you do need a little bit of tough love Moonbeam. Sometimes in life you need a pat on the back but other times we all need a kick up the backside.
A good turn of phrase I heard from someone on these forums involved tossing a coin 100 times and it coming down tails every time and still backing heads and expecting a different result. I am not talking about gambling but using a metaphor for everything you keep talking about which is making you unhappy but are not doing anything to change.

Love and best wishes as always to you.

True

But on the one hand it's not a question of money ..

and on the other hand it's 'go & find any old job & pay your taxes' attitude from the Ponzi pensioners (funny they're always the ones ain't it)

Money doesn't make me happy so what's the point of a job anyway

I'm not exactly skint

This whole life is just bullsh^t .. may as well just buy a camper van & sleep rough travelling around Europe Scared

Tell ya what Moonbeam and I would not normally make such an offer to someone I don't know but I will probably go for a wee break to Krakow later in the year. I will be travelling solo so If you want to go the same time I will show ya around. Not suggesting we share a room but if you want to go to the same hotel that's fine. You will have a nice time if you like history like me and that kind of stuff.

But I am spending the time listening to any moaning!!!!!

You have lost me Moonbeam, you say money means nothing to you, but it patently does, it is all that matters to you

You are very mixed up

That's not exactly what I said Gery I was referring to paddletoe's post saying 'it's not a question of money' but he is right I agree , money does matter to me like it does to most of us on here but not as much as you probably think , it's more the way I make it that matters to me , so stacking shelves in Asda's out of the question sorry .

I was thinking you were much younger than 39 Moonbeam.

Well, they say "life begins at 40" and, who knows, perhaps you can make that happen.
If you haven't made it at 50 you are heading into the abyss.

Find some sort of gainful employment where you start early and finish early

How about a postman? I did business with an early retired accountant and he took such a job and loved it.
Fresh air and excersise, and money for expensive holidays and "good lifing".
Finished by 15:00 and the days yours.

Don't laugh but be a refuse collector and again finished by 15:00.

Get on a government paid scheme who pay you to learn a trade.
Plumbing, electrics bricklaying, decorating, tiling etc.

Armed with that work for yourself, as you will, and have the satisfaction of achieving something.

"Take away food" delivery guys seem to do very well, from what I know, and would be very surprised if they pay any tax,
as they are completely "under the radar".

So very many casual things to do, such as working in one of the many car washes, where they seem to be none stop and again, no tax!

No offence Aunty Post and I know you mean well but just getting out there finding gainful employment as a postie or a tradesman is just not as easy as that. Moons job prospects are more likely to be packing shelves or flipping burgers, even at that I think he would have competition. No offence either McMoon but I don't think the latter would make you happy.

To me, it reads like you are basically, feeling down. Maybe depressed. And you are feeding that negative feeling with the isolation and lack of socialization that comes with being online 24/7 gambling. Sounds simplistic McMoon but the first step is the hardest and like many others have said, you need to get out and about, even if just a few hours a day, for your own sanity. Just try it, what have you got to lose? You will feel better after being outside. The weather is getting better, go for a walk of you are not in the mood for jumping into a social scene. Its like a chain effect, one step leads to another. Probably doesn't help that you are single (I'm guessing there isn't a Mrs McMoon).

The other thing is, you have a lot more than most people. Your own property and a few quid at your disposal. You probably have good health too. Be thankful for that and don't be so hard on yourself, mate.

You either need a break from poker or a change of "career". Decide what makes you happy and what you are good at if it pays the bills, bingo! Life is short, who knows what tomorrow brings.

Wink

dont be a postman imo especially joining at your age.
unless you are naturally fit.

took me 3 months to get used to be shattered by 2 oclock.

took 6 months to get used to the job because you get shunted round every walk and it takes time to learn each new one..

when your half a asleep when you get in its full on sorting and prepping your frame.
that was before they increased walk sizes twice.....hate to think what its like now....pity some of the older posties in my office.

if you can make 10 an hour grinding ffs...stay grinding and just reduce your targets...add hours in the day for leisure (thats vital imo).

When: 13 Mar 15 15:20
I'm guessing you have no wife, girlfriend or kids?
You've probably not had a girlfriend for 5 years or more?
You have no to small family connections, you might just see only your Mum on a regular basis?
You have no more than one or two close friends?

You're in your own little cocoon and you're self sufficient. You work your own hours and earn your own money. Every day is much the same you go to bed when you want, get up when you want, work when you want. Your diet is no doubt terrible and your only exercise is going to the shop and back?

You need some structure and interaction in your life. The postman job would be ideal, exercise and meeting people. You need to socialise so you get a girlfriend/wife and have some responsibility in your life and someone to answer to.

I know it's easier said than done.
By:
Mc Moonbeam
When: 13 Mar 15 17:17
That's pretty much true Get on Massive
I did have a good friends but grew more & more distant from them over the years as you have to start thinking for yourself as you get older & not wasting time going out drinking etc  which kind of prompted me to move away on my own as I ended up better off than most of them moneywise

I am naturally smart which is why I haven't needed to work a dead end job for so many years but yes turning 40 living the way I do all alone is kind of worrying in itself , but I guess age is only a number Blush

I was fitter in my youth but am only slightly out of shape , a Postman's job would probably suit me but would also be a Major Shock to my system !

Another thing is that when you've moved away to another area I'm not exactly mad keen to get involved with their community , it's not my community & never will be Scared

But yes despite being smart my job prospects are extremely bleak & always have been which I why I live the way I do .. it's not like I have a million different options

I still have plans to try & buy another property which I'd rent out for a small income & some kind of back up for the future .. but my mental state's not quite where it should be at the moment
I do what I can & yes if could still make decent money online I'd be happy enough with that G1 .. but is easier said than done & life cathes up with you fast the older you get I can't still be grinding away at 45 - 50 - 55 can I Crazy

It seems like you have been badly let down by friends or family in the past and moved away to escape them. Your trust in people has been diminished by the experience and you are afraid to make new friends or get involved in your new community in case history repeats itself. You really want a job and friends but can`t because of your low self esteem due to the depression and anxiety you obviously suffer from. As I have said in all the similar threads you start mcmoon, you really need to see a doctor and talk to someone in person about the way you feel, but perhaps you find it difficult due to your anxiety and find yourself in a Catch 22. It`s no shame going to a doctor about being depressed and you can turn your life round by doing so and possibly find happiness. Shutting yourself away is not the answer mate. You need to see a doctor. I say this with good intentions. Good luck mcmoon.

With gambling being your only source of income, you need to win to survive and you therefore must be stressing yourself out doing so.

In answer to your original question, you wouldn`t get any dole with thousands in the bank. You could sign on and they would help you find work but you wouldn`t get any money. Nobody wants to be on the dole.

Nay, damn! Don't suggest that he gets a dog! What kind of life do you think it would get?

I would have thought that that some of you holding his hand whilst others try a bit of sooth-saying whilst I kick him up the backside, might just have got him to make a decision regarding a change of lifestyle. But no...it's all that 'nasty naydam' business!
Well, this guy ain't gonna DO Jack**** until somebody makes him. It's a shame that none of you can see it.
THAT'S what I call 'being let down by your friends'. Just my opinion, of course.

Bhoys I had my own business and I would have given you a job in a minute if it was still going. I`ve read your posts and you genuinely want a job and get out the rut you now find yourself in. Difference is you have the time on your hands & nothing to lose so maybe it could work for you .. yes you would be 'trying' but why not aim a bit higher & go do a proper course & learn a trade that's what I'd do in your shoes

People will always tell you 'it's about giving something back' .. back to what ... it's just about 'Giving' as usual imho

I was in the publishing business Moon. Unfortunately, the internet has badly hit it and hard copy publishing is dying a slow death. Young people now get everything on their phones and very few buy newspapers, magazines, books, etc. Electronic publishing is the thing now, e-books and all that and it`s not my kind of thing. Probably will kill off newspapers entirely within 10 years or so, so if I were you I wouldn`t dive into buying a newsagent with your hard earned cash mate.

I tell it like it is Bhoys , some might slate me for it but I've been around long enough to be realistic
I've made what you probably dream of through gambling but it doesn't buy happiness , self worth brings happiness imo & you're still young enough to make something of yourself , just don't waste your life away being Lazy as you'll regret it more & more as you get older (I'm only being harsh coz I like you) Happy
