Who's to say he knew who was going to answer the door. Got what she deserved being outed like that, she obviously felt she had done wrong to do what she did. |

^ seen that interview and quite honestly she didn't seem that bothered, when Brunt had caught up with her outside her cottage she didn't seem to care much and said she was entitled to do what she did and "I'm just going out with a friend now, nothing more to say." Then Brunt told her she had been reported to Scotland Yard she just shrugged it off and said, "That's fair enough" ......and now 3 days later she is dead !

It's a surprise that Martin Brunt was sent to doorstep her in the first place - let alone the decision by the on-duty news editor to screen such an item.
Sky must be asked to explain themselve in front of a parliamentary committee. |

Who's to say he knew who was going to answer the door. I bet you he did. Not a surprise the 'troll' they decided to out and tell the police were investigating her was a middle aged, middle class woman from a sleepy country village as opposed to a turning up at a 23 year old's high rise flat in some **** council estate. |

Worst case scenario was likely what happened to her. Based on the tweets I've read and the fact they weren't posted to the Mccanns I would be shocked if she had even been prosecuted.
On the same couple of days Sky reported this the other high thing on twitter was probably Nick Griffin and I wonder how many people were tweeting he should rot in hell or have a miserable life? |

There is a bit on the BBC about her being 'untypical' of trolls. I would guess, and it really is a guess, that someone from a middle-class, well-educated background (their words) and I think churchgoing background would find being revealed to be...not very nice...would find that harder to take. No fan of Sky, but you only have to read this forum to know there are some really weird, malicious people around.

Given what we have been presented with I doubt she has broken any laws unless she sent the messages to the mccanns.
Does anyone know if she did or not? Why didn't Sky go after those that had actually threatened the mccanns or have accused them of killing Madeleine? This woman obviously has issues and took things too far imo but having said that the mccanns are open for criticism given their selfish behaviour whilst on holiday. |

A lot of similar stuff is on the internet about the McCanns - not just on twitter - she just used that form of social media for her abuse, but stuff she was tweeting "Many of us will ask Q s for as long as it takes" a lot of things like that is already online on different websites. So why haven't they been prosecuted ? I'm not sure if her messages included death threats, that would be totally different of course, but a lot of stuff aimed at the McCanns is already on the internet. But apparently what happened with this woman, members of the public who sympathise with the McCanns compiled a 65 page file of abuse and handed it to the police. Seems she was a 63-year-old churchgoing woman who had a very different online profile ! |

That's the thing Hound Dog if she had posted death threats then why wouldn't Sky News quote the worst tweets she had made than ambiguous ones about them suffering and having a miserable life and would the reporter confront someone in person who had made death threats? It seem to me that they needed a face to go with their 'Evil troll hate campaign' and chose a target who was unlikely to be any risk when they turned up at her door unannounced.

This was after a Sky News reporter confronted her outside her home last week. It is thought that Sky News may have used a dossier gathered by supporters of the McCanns to help them identify and find Leyland. Channel 4 News has established that supporters of the McCann family have assembled at least 27 dossiers on both anonymous "trolls" and on those who are perceived to be "anti-McCann". There is no indication at all of the McCanns being involved in or endorsing this activity themselves. Gerry McCann last week told the BBC: "Clearly something needs to be done about the abuse on the internet. I'm glad to say that there have been a number of people where police have taken action." The Metropolitan Police is investigating the 80-page dossier that catalogues the "hate campaign" against the McCann family, which includes threats against their children. Troll-hunter site The dossiers found by Channel 4 News have been created over a period of a number of years about online internet trolls who have targeted the McCanns. They are hosted on a Wikipedia-style site called "Mccann Hate Exposed". It was removed from the web sometime in the past week. Channel 4 News has seen archived copies of some page on the site that catalogue online abuse against the McCann family made by Twitter users. The site seeks to track usernames and identities across the web, noting what usernames each person is using on sites including YouTube and web forums, and it includes details about their life in the real world. The information in the dossiers names and unmasks some of the people who criticise or attack the McCanns. The owners of the site have yet to respond to attempts made to contact them. 'Sweepyface' A dossier about Leyland's account "Sweepyface" was hosted on the Wiki site, but i i's unclear if this is the same dossier that was handed to the police or the same information that was used by Sky News. When Leyland was confronted by the Sky News reporter, it was put to her that she had posted messages attacking the family. She replied: "I'm entitled to do that." The tweets levelled serious criticisms of the McCanns' behaviour following the disappearance of their daughter, as well as abuse directed at the couple. One tweet allegedly posted by @Sweepyface, believed to be Leyland's Twitter account name, said the McCanns had "never had it so good". Sky News issued a statement that says: "We were saddened to hear of the death of Brenda Leyland. It would be inappropriate to speculate or comment further at this time." A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: "Ms Leyland's death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Coroner. A lot of people feel angry at the McCanns, they leave 3 little children on their own and go out. And this woman who killed herself, although she went over the top with a lot of rants on twitter, she was only saying what a lot of people were thinking. And today on twitter a lot of support for Brenda Leyland, yes she was an easy target for Sky News reporter Martin Brunt.

this wasnt just a story on the news but a 30 min sky special played 5 or 6 times during the day,brunt told her she,d be getting a visit off the police which was a lie ,the police said today they,d yet to decide whether to act on the dosier or not,the maccans say they never read any of her tweets or made aware of them, seems everyone is scrambling for the lifeboats

I haven't followed this story until seeing this thread but it seems like she was a person that was sensitive about her social standing and worried about the slightest brush with the law. Therefore even if her comments were at the lighter end of the spectrum....if you can't stand the heat....

Sky couldn't show enough of this news piece last week but not the untimely death of this woman who was the principal focus of their attention but who now gets the briefest of coverage - should the truth about the McCanns daughter ever come out then it will be interesting to see how news coverage will react - no doubt they already have 2 scenarios prepared

I've seen every section of the media today referring to this woman as a troll
I thought a troll was someone who frequented forums with the aim of deriving entertainment by winding people up and getting a response out of them. They often don't have any particular view and could argue one side just as easily as the other This woman was the opposite of a troll. She was an obsessive about what she thought was an injustice. She was in fact just the sort of person a troll would target. The troll here was obviously Brunt / Sky (i.e confronting someone, trying to get a rise out of them for entertainment). They would have loved it if she'd have screamed obscenities hysterically at them and shoved a cameraman or something. Credit to her for staying remarkably calm and not taking the bait (she even invited them in later for a chat where she put her case) |

Poor lady. Don't know what exactly she said but if it's what is being reported it doesn't seem too out of line with what a lot of people think. A Doctor and his middle class wife who should have known better left their toddlers totally alone in a strange place and they were stolen whilst they were on the lash. If that happened to a benefits mum they would spend the rest of their lives beside themselves with grief and excoriation by the tabloids.
The main difference is they wouldn't have had a whip round by the country sending them hither and thither on what seems a tragic wild goose chase. They'd have been lifted by the rozzers and had some serious questions to answer. Am I lying or telling the truth? I'd just like to know quickly in case they change the law again. |

The fact is it was a situation which she entirely created herself. But how he tracked her down and got her address I have no idea, and did he go to far to expose her the way he did, could say he was just doing his job - like a lot of other investigative reporters on TV. Hard to say who is more to blame here, two wrongs don't make a right. |

You thought I was worth wasting your time on when you thought you were the daddy even taking the time and trouble to post your thoughts but now I put you in your place that's a different story.
