AG, Junkie, ex junkie, stoner or p1sshead he's still a hugely undesirable carer for Tia and the grandmother and mother failed in their duty of care to poor Tia by allowing him to have unsupervised contact with her.

Not a policeman but an off course bookmaker and punter in and around London for 25 years or so.

You may be right Pixie.

In time it will come out, but if it was any worse would he not have been monitored or would it not be common knowledge if he was from that area?

the body being found in the grandmother's loft points the finger ...... it appears to be more than arresting someone because of their criminal history and looks.

Perhaps SH will put the blame on the grandmother .......... which could make it difficult for the police.

I have just spent the last 3 hours reading all 32 pages of this thread. And one thing stands out.... the poor girl never had a chance.
Did any one take responsibility of loking after her? No. She jumped from house to house to house. She needed someone to protect her and teach her and guide her in life. What hope did she have. She was on a continous merry go round.
It still amazes me that you need a license to drive a car yet anyone can have kids and treat them so badly.

Do you have a link. Also Tia didnt live with her Grandma. Yes the family was dysfunctional like 1000`s of others. There are also 1000`s of ex cons acting as step dads. Are you going to petition against them being any kind of guardian Charwell?

Its not a recent phenomenon for children to have regular stop overs a relatives homes. However the culture of women having babies outside of a stable relationship without pre planning etc, and then moving on to various partners seems to be widely accepted and that has a detrimental effect on the kids who have half brother/sisters, absent daddies and different step dads and inconsistent guardian role models. Its not the way it should be.

A woman in Powys was sentenced to 15 months in prison yesterday for leaving her baby at home alone, while she went out drinking. Neighbours heard the cries and reported it. The baby is fine.

The McCanns went out on the lash, and their child was apparently kidnapped, and probably murdered. Yet they don't even get prosecuted for neglect

Strange world

The McCanns were checking on the kids every hour or so and were only 100 yards away. this woman would return once a day to feed the kid. There is a bit of a difference here

The McCanns shouldn't have left the children alone in the first place
By:

the irony in this situation is that you would think they shouldn't have left the twins alone, but leaving a 3 year old kid is fine in  my book if you check on it every hour.

Against the law in the UK as far as I know

Not allowed to leave children under 14 years of age unsupervised

And everywhere I went on holiday, if I was with the Mrs, our daughters were with us, not left, or checked on

I think that being 100yards away and checking every hour is not considered unsupervised

The "every hour" claim was disputed by the authorities. One of the "checks" was done by a friend who admitted afterwards he didn't actually see whether Maddie was there or not (she was probably gone).

Christ Flea I hope you don't have kids.

Never in a million years would I leave my 7 year old daughter on her own. 100 yards away is 100 yards away too far unless you are under the same roof. It is neglect pure and simple.

Jesus. No wonder kids grow up not knowing how to look after themselves if parents are so paranoid. Also no wonder divorce rates are so high if having children is akin to 18 years of Alcatraz

I think the fact that the Mccanns felt their social and drinking needs were of greater importance than their children was neglect.

my parents regularly left me and my sisters alone to go out for the night. But then again the also used to spank us when we misbehaved. In modern times my parents would be considered the worst of parents, yet it was the norm in those days. And surprisingly we all grew up unspoiled and knowing our limits. But most importantly having a huge respect for people especially the elderly

In the same room, or in the same house, with back and front doors locked - child 99% safe

Down the pub on the lash '100 yards' away. 'checking every hour - child obviously not 99% safe - as proved by the fact that she's probably dead

Spot the difference

I would imagine that more children die a year in the house with doors locked and parent in house than children abducted with parents 100 yards away.

Maybe in your house, not mine

We were brought up in the 1950s in east London. Working class, but our dad never hit me or my sister (My mum did, but she was off her facking trolley, there was no reason for it)

I have never hit my children

My children have never hit their children

We were NEVER left alone at home, or holiday

My grandchildren are NEVER left alone at home, or on holiday

TMF, you and that sad tw*t Knight Rider are not all the ticket, you hate racism as it's bulying, but you both condone smacking children !!

Do you not possess the intellect to get a child to behave properly ?

If you smack your child you are probably a coont, and definitely a bully, you are twice as tall and 4 times heavier

Do you have to smack them harder as they get older and stronger, as your punishment doesn't hurt any more ?

What happens if they get to 15/16/17 and are as big as you ?  Do you resort to full force punches when they've  misbehaved, as a smack won't work any more ?

Btw, is your wife black, like Knight Riders wife, that may explain things

I said spank, not smack. It didn't hurt at all. My parents never raised their voices at us, but they did spank us.
I find screaming at children to be far more disturbing than spanking them

That's undoubtedly true - because most people have more sense than to leave 3 toddlers alone in an unlocked apartment while they go out boozing.

true, as they have the sense to drink themselves senseless whilst "looking after" their children

Tbh I was shocked when I saw the context in which the McCann's had left their daughter unattended.

GMcC said someting about "...akin to leaving your child in the house whilst in the garden".

Apart from him having a very big garden, it's nothing like that. On holiday, in a foreign country, in a building which anyone can access from the public highway?

Outrageous imo

If the McCanns were 'working class' and not 'professionals' you could bet your life savings at 1.01 that the UK press would have slaughtered them

...and 'Screaming' at children is as pathetic as smacking them.

Try being firm but explain 'do's and don'ts' & the reason why they are such. Children need a guiding hand and not a bully.

If you think your mum and dad going out & leaving you alone is acceptable then I feel for you. If your house caught fire, or you were burgled, or one of you had anaccident, or even got scared and your parents were down the pub getting p1ssed.....

Flea, please don't have kids as you are currently the only person on the planet who thinks the Mccanns were 'ok' leaving children out of their sight and hearing whilst they got sloshed.

As a child we went to pontins and holimarine parks for holidays....I clearly remember the goodnight songs for kids where we went back to the chalet with either Mum or dad went to bed and were left.....A big board was up next to the stage and there were regular announcements regarding "Baby crying in chalet number 26"....Not a new phenomenen....

In fairness to the Mcanas,i doubt theyve ever been "sloshed" in their lives, they went for an evening meal and drinks with friends.Yes they were shockingly negligent and very naive to leave their kids like that, but it's hardly a "home alone" scenario.

I personally believe they should of been charged with neglect (or the lower end of it)

One of their main problems was that as educated proffessional people they acted dignified and kept it all together as opposed to howling screaming wailing and piles of cheap teddies and garage flowers all over the shop.

The press would of no doubt have destroyed them if theyd been off  asink estate it goes without a mention.

Most of the parents in these cases couldnt give a damn who looks after their kids as long as its not them, yet when they go missing appear on telly crying & wailing how they cant live without them.If the child is found dead then we get the religious drivel-he/she safe now no-one can hurt them anymore.Just an idea, look after your kids properly in the first place.
