Pretty sure Moyle Park will end up being the Mullins/Walsh/Ricci Supreme horse Mystic....long long time for things to settle into place though. We all know Willie will have a map/picture in his head which he won't tell anyone till a week before!
Really like Faugheen as stated at start of thread...just wonder if they'll bring him over to these sures prior to festival? The stable have so so many talented novices & keeping Gigginstown, Ricci & Wylie happy might be difficult. Noted a horse i really liked last year of his for Ricci, Clondaw Court - entered in G1s so must be back in decent training - i'll keep a close eye on where all these Ricci purchases end up - they've spent stupid money but some serious talent in that stable... I've got no hard facts to back this up but for me the key reason Ruby went back to Ire full time is due to all this talent & wanting to ride the good ones in even tin-pot races at 1/8f - today great example of that |

Would also see Moyle in Supreme.

If you're thinking of backing Moyle Park for the Supreme, I'd advise watching Vautour's race today first - looks real class.
WPM does seem to have an embarrassment of riches in the Novice Hurdlers department this year. Can't wait to see Briar Hill over 2m4f next week - he looks the real deal to me. |

Personally I can't see anyway they would step Faugheen up to 3m this season - the bigger concern in my eyes would be the drop back to 2m which they feel he has the pace for. Gut feeling is that Briar Hill will be their AB horse

I was impressed too MW. Won as he liked. First impressions were that he looked quite a big topped chasing type and I suppose my slight reservation about him would be his suitability for Cheltenham. I've posted elsewhere that I believe Mullins has the best crop of horses that he has ever had and as the weeks roll by and the winners roll in, I don't see much to change that view. |

The Dosage Index of a few of WPM's horses make interesting reading.
For the uninitiated, low numbers indicate stamina and high numbers speed. A value of 1.00 is supposed to be ideal for a Derby candidate. Champagne Fever = 0.33 Mikael D'Haguenet = 0.60 Faugheen = 0.78 Pont Alexandre = 0.90 Vautour = 1.00 Boston Bob = 1.12 Moyle Park = 1.40 Briar Hill = 1.67 Draw whatever conclusions you may. Mine are: * Champagne Fever is some horse to have done what he's done over 2m. * Briar Hill would be better targetted at the Neptune than the AB. * Faugheen should be aimed at the AB (I know Germany also sired Captain Cee Bee, but there is a lot more speed in his Distaff side). Am I too late to back Vautour for the Derby? ![]() |

Hopefully Willie won't be paying too much attention to this MW, or we'll have CF in the 4 miler!

MW, do you know Felix Yonger's numbers?
By:
Hi Budd'. FY's Dosage doesn't help with on-going Arkle debate.
With a DI of 0.42, perhaps he should go for the 4 miler too! |

was just wondering mate, but thanks. |

please let the original poster be right about the said nag being 5/4 come march.baxk in the real world its just won a huge odds on beating a few irish trees.
By:
Reckon he goes for the Albert Bartlett myself. Ladbrokes taking a strong stance by laying him at 16/1 when he is 10/1 most other places.
By:
ladcrooks going 16/1 is a concern plus how how often do bumper winners go 3m the year after? So
By:
laddies were the stand out firm to back MTOY and TNO this time last year so that doesn't worry me
By:
Yeah I wouldnt be worried about Laddies they were big standout CF for the Arkle 2 weeks ago
By:
faugheen shortening at laddies
By:
Yep, Briar Hill drifting in the Supreme, Faugheen shortening in the Neptune, Briar Hill shortening in the Bartlett...clear as mud....

Good

9/1 with laddies now - that's quite a big climb down without him even running. Is looking more and more like the Neptune for me at this stage - no longer declared in the future novices and briar hill looking more like their AB horse now.

By:
i think you are probably right Tory but trying to second guess WPM has proved trappy in the past and I don't see anything changing in 2014! 7/1 to win any race with Billy's is probably a safer shout.

By:
Not beating anything yet. Apache Stronghold hosed up in a graded the other day. Far better value
By:
he may be a bigger price but im looking for the winner and while AS may run into a place I think faugheen is the likely winner and is still good value
By:
Who's he beat to deserve to be 8/1?
By:
its not what he,s beat bally its the manner of his victories that's impressed me, I could go the azorian route but I won,t....
By:
whos he beat to desrve to be 8/1......what a stupid question that is.....he beat josses hill and stonebrook by a furlong at punchestown.....that's not too bad form id say......and hes 12/1 with coral and hill.....why would anybody take 8/1 it.....
By:
Was that over hurdles?
By:
don't get me wrong bally I like AS, and I like the fact that he is winning and boosting the liquidator form, I just think faugheen could be a bit special but only time will tell if either of us is right....

Rate reply: | report block user Not sure what you mean..do you mean the Azorian who Apache Stronghold beat on the bridle by 3 lengths? The same Azorian who Briar Hill beat 4 lengths and he won the Champion Bumper by 7? That Azorian? Don't get me wrong Faugheen looks a good prospect but I fear hype has taken off. The horses he has beat would be whipped by the main contenders at the top of the market as it stands and he does not represent value at this point in time. I remember a horse called Pont Alexandre being stoked up on here (future Gold Cup winner etc etc) - got found out at Cheltenham I believe. Boston Bob - beat as well. Time will tell with Faugheen.... |
By:
it was a bumper.....but I expect you know that.....so you think faugheen is not as good over hurdles.....I could see why you may think that.....its possible that he will not be as good over hurdles.....although he is 3 from 3 over obstacles.....never off the bridle.....its highly likely that he will be better over hurdles.....

I never said he was not as good over hurdles but I base my Neptune selections on hurdle form not bumpers. I want to see him in a race against decent opposition over hurdles.
By:
Im suspect Faugheen is shorter than Apache cos of the mullins factor, cos form that I read has it the other way round.
Its all good though, always is when you can get a better price ![]() My feeling is Apache Stronghold at this stage is the best candidate for the Neptune. |
By:
If you switched trainers Apache would be 8/1 and Faugheen would be 16/1.
That's fair enough. Meade's record at Cheltenham isn't the best and way behind Mullins but I remember having a lovely little touch last year with The New One and further back to a horse called Nicanor trained by Meade who took out the certainty that was Denman. If Faugheen goes and wins a grade 2 hurdle on the bridle over 2m 4f then we will see what we have. |
By:
I thought the AB bound briar hill beat azorian more easily than AS did, that is just my opinion of course, I also think faugheen is yet to come out of 2nd gear the only time he,s had a smack was in that bumper and we know what happened there
By:
I also had a nice little touch on the TNO when I backed him in early December last year
By:
Think you need to watch both races again Alleged.

I took The New One at 16-1 5 mins before he romped in at Warwick.

I have budd
briar hill did all the donkey work, he was never smacked, was pulling away with a hands and heels ride, still had too much toe and he,s a stayer in the making. |
