Where would you send him if you had the choice?
Should improve for spring ground (if we get it), can't see him being to best effect BER 3m 2f though so I'd go Ryanair.

Ryanair.
he would be a maximum bet for me.

You can tell he's maturing and getting better but at the moment simply just gets outstayed at 3M so the extra 2F at Cheltenham, where he clearly he runs well, is a year too early imo.

I'd send him Ryanair this year for sure but could understand connections sending him for the Blue Riband - after all there is only one GC

I'll not answer through pocket talk. I've got a few quid on SDC, but i'd send First Lieutenant to the Gold Cup. I embrace anything i've backed taking on the best. He jumps and travels well, and i don't think the distance is an issue at all.

Before the season started I thought Ryanair this season but after his efforts and the way he has been campaigned i'd be gobsmacked if they run in the Ryanair. Trainer would spit feathers if he were told to do so.

With Mouse nominating China Rock the other day as a likely runner in the Ryanair I'm now be of the opinion FL is Gold Cup bound. O.K they're different owners but when making the statement he didn't give any indication that he might also be represented in Ryanair by FL.

Unlucky in Lexus, was idling in front, if Tidal Bay joins him 100yds from the finish there is still less than a neck in it.

I would send him to the Ryanair.
I think they will send him to the Ryanair.
I think he will win the Ryanair.

I think Flemenstar will end up in the Ryanair and win, in which case they might as well try for the GC

If I had a horse with any chance at all of winning the Gold Cup I'd run it in the Gold Cup

He will run in gold cup, not like these owner mind having multi runners in a race, they do it all season so im sure the wont worry in a £300k race.

I think he will run in the Gold Cup but he probably has more chance of winning the Ryanair.

No reason to expect him to reverse form with Bobs Worth who just appears that bit better in all departments. To entertain serious prospects of winning the Gold Cup I think he should really have converted the winning opportunity in the Lexus.

I think he would have every chance of winning the Ryanair, and he only has an outside chance of winning the GC. No reason why he should turn form round with Bobs Worth for me and no reason why he should stay 3m2f better at Cheltenham than Newbury

That's my thoughts exactly Resner.

He does improve as the season goes on,his last 2 festivals tell you that.
He will imo be at his best in March,so whichever race they choose he should run a big race.

He might stay the Gold Cup, but probably not as well as some of the other runners, notably Bobs Worth. I hope they run him in the Ryanair, I would really fancy him for it.

He is not being campaigned like a GC horse. There is only one race he is being primed for imo, the Blue Riband event on Friday afternoon.

I see in PW article on QMCC, Casey's quote shows a distinct change of heart re Flemenstar. If they point him at Ryanair then increases chance of FL ging GC route....imo of course

I know and accept that usually FL improves as the year goes on but he doesn't usually start the year as well as he has this time, so I would doubt there's as much improvement to come as in the past. I think he's a top class horse who doesn't quite stay the GC trip. Unfortunately IMO I'll be very surprised if he ends up in the Ryanair

He peaks for one day and one day only. Watch last years RSA again, he struggled to settle without any cover as it effectively became a two horse race, that won't be a problem in this years Gold Cup
Don't forget ever since he was bought he was seen as a Gold Cup horse!

He'd be a major contender for the Ryanair.I can't have him for the Gold Cup.

i think mm will have him primed for the gold cup ..a very good judge i go racing with a lot ...thinks its  great e/w value......

It is if it runs but I think it's more suited to the Ryanair distance on all known form.

My last post said he is not being campainged like a GC horse, when I meant Ryanair horse.  FL is being trained and readied for Friday afternoon, Gold Cup. IMO

As said before cannot see him winning the GC this year, though clearly that's where MM wants to send him. Gigginstown had another GC horse re-emerge today and O'Leary wants to win his race

fair point re QDLR. Has to be a consideration now.

This is simple.

If First Lieutenant runs in the Gold Cup he will be in the van then overtaken in the last two furlongs to finish around 4th or 5th because he won't get home and he isn't good enough to beat Sir Des Champs, Bobs Worth, Long Run and Silviniaco Conti

If First Lieutenant runs in the Ryanair he will be up there all the way then stay on strongly up the hill to win. At 10/1 NR Free Bet he rates as a maximum bet.

Once the owner realises he has the Gold Cup winner in his ownership, nothing for his own particular race and has a word with Davy Russell he will be re-routed to Ryanair.

Hope you're right about the Ryanair. Had my VCBet account closed but a mate had me 50 quid on @ 10s yesterday. Really think he'll take some stopping in the Ryanair and both his festival races have been top class performances.

I've had my VC bet account closed with 800 staked on Cheltenham. Cheeky 50 quid @ 10-1 also. Hopefully take 5 grand off the mugs from the 800. Won 625 quid in a week and they put the shutters down. have to laugh....

And I only won about 3 grand so it doesn't take much.

you've confused me Ballydoyle. FL rates as a maximum bet iyo but you then refer to it as a cheeky £50?

Anyone it's just aswell it is NRNB because he is destined to run on Friday afternoon, in my opinion.

I've had the max you can get with Vic on NR Free bet. Once NRNB comes around the hand will go back into the pocket. If he runs on Friday afternoon it's a waste of time cos the Gold Cup trip will stretch him coming round the turn. As I said, the owner already has the Gold Cup winner and nothing for his own race so I expect a switch.
