Read this one right left him out of my Arkle combis -
By: This user is offline. eric_morris Date Joined: 27 Jun 10 Add contact When: 05 Dec 10 14:15 Royal Charm is entered for the 2m 5f novice chase at Cheltenham next Friday with Spirit River, Reve De Sivola, Surfing, Jessie's Dream, and Time For Rupert though the trip will be too short for him. Interesting Nicholls is doubting him as an Arkle horse and reading between the lines am wondering if he intends giving this horse a stayers education but without the hustle and bustle of an Arkle which Kauto Star also did not run in during his journey to the top. He has been running on soft ground up until last time and has been very much looked after by the trainer with the long term in mind. Mentioning he is not sure about the Arkle being the right race for him and mentioning him in the same breath as Kauto Star gives a big clue as to where he is looking in trip imo and the entry for this 2m 5f test does nothing to change that. Nicholls doesnt prepare his prospective Gold Cup horses in Arkle's imo. "Royal Charm was always going to go to this meeting after winning last time," he said. "He likes Exeter and it's an ideal race for his next start. He won well last time, likes soft ground and likes the track so he has a lot in his favour." |

While the bookmakers quotes centred on the Arkle, Nicholls intends to step him up in trip.
"He did well to get back up and win but he wants further than that," said Nicholls. "If I'd had my way and we could have relied on the weather he'd have gone to Ascot on Friday over two and a half miles but it was a bit more experience for him and we'll now step him up in trip in the spring. "I just wanted to get a run into him. He's unlikely to run in the Arkle and I'll find a target for him in the spring. "We might look at the Pendil (Kempton, February 26) or the Scilly Isles (Sandown, February 6) next for him, but nothing is set in stone." |

Kauto did not compete in the 05 Arkle because he was injured after falling and being remounted to finish the race, in the days when that was allowed. The Arkle had been intended for him prior to that.

Quvega .. read above that was already covered mate.

Noble Prince is the one to be with. Thanks to fancy price layers - I will collect.

Eric, Nicholls said immediately after his chase debut victory he was not sure he'd be suited by an Arkle.
|
|
By:
Yes I know but I had my Arkle bets placed before then and it didnt include him.

sintonian did you have much on him for the Arkle?

Of course I backed him Eric.
I said BEFORE he jumped a fence i'd had a wager on him at 33/1 for the race. total stake was 0.5pt. It was posted on this thread, and another thread. What I am not doing though is copying and pasting a post for no other reason than to Gloat. And in the process backfitting a story to claim I have made money out of it, which is exactly what you have done. Basically, Paul Nicholls sounded the warning bells about this horse going for the Arkle immediately after his debut win, which was before your backfitted post to his comments. |
|
By:
What have you backed then Eric, im sure they are convenientyl half the price now, but lets see if you can tell us what you've actually backed before you sling in a Freebie for £5k.

Nicholls is syaing the Arkle may not be the type of race he wants .. so I wonder if they are still going to look after him this season or race him sparingly as he is just 5 and lightly raced. Finians Rainbow is the other one I like so done the same bet. Why on earth are you giving Eric the time of day sint?

Sint, i wouldn't give up on Royal Charm just yet. Soft ground festival and who knows. gl

I can't read his posts, I use the forum beta blocker. It's great, the thing was probably made because of him. If there was a more annoying clueless wretch that ever posted on here, I have yet to meet him.
Sint, block him. No point good forum posters like yourself wasting time responding to the likes of him. |

By:
No offence but you sintonian and CvByrne are clueless guessers on here. I am all for you both blocking me so I dont need to get stupid uninformed comments from you both.

By:
CVByrne passed a comment on my Mikael D'Haguenet thread, shame he doesnt stick to his word instead reading what Itype then making an indirect comment to what I have written to budd or a.n.other poster. You cant even tell the truth about blocking me clown.

By:
FFT,CV, you are right. I got reeled in.
Reyes, soft ground could change things but have just listened to PN again on ATR, he said the horse may not even have an entry for the race. And they do have Ghizao. well see anywya. Forza Barca ![]() |

Market is still a long way from being formed but think the top two and espeically Ghizao is a massive price at 12/1.
Only 3 horses in the last 20 years have won the arkle making their chasing debut after christmas and two of them being trained by Martin Pipe and one of those of course was the great Well Chief. Looking down the list just cant see too many coming out of the woodwork. Medermit just doesnt jump well enough for me to win an arkle probably better over 2m4f. Mikael looks to heading for the RSA Captain Chris is 20/1 and he got stuffed 10 plus lengths by Ghizao over course and distance. Royal Charm was pretty disappointing despite winning at exeter and looked to need all of the 2m2f trip. didnt look fast enough. What else is there??? 12/1 for an impressive course and distance winner that is certainly heading for the race. And lest not forget how bad the forecast is racing could be seriously thin on the ground in the UK for the next couple of months and before we know it will be march. |
|
By:
hows about notus de la tour going chasing?or mr thriller stepping back in trip?
|
|
By:
geton - good points. The setbacks with the weather this season might see a few more candidates appear after Christmas than often has been the case in the previous years.
Noble Prince remains interesting, given he made a good chase debut and has a reasonable record over hurdles. Surfing looks to be well regarded. But overall I think you have summarised well where we are with the market at present. |

Guys - if Eric stars annoying you just mention the word Steinbeck and that normally shuts him up

This years Arkle is shaping up to be the worst for years. At the start of the season we were all relishing the likely showdown between Celestial Halo and Medermit with a few others like Spirit River and Arvika Ligionaire in the mix too. The antepost list of likely protagonists looks pretty poor to me by usual standards now with the possible exception of Finians Rainbow. 10-1 looks generous in such a weak renewal. Can't see him going off anywhere near that price in March and looks a good ew bet to me.
|
|
By:
I'd still be reluctant to go in again on Finians tbh. This is a novice race afterall and he's had just the one run. The Arkle is notorious for fallers aswell.
Torphicen is interesting. He has some good form in the book and jumped great last time, I thought. He is also owned and trained by the same connections of Osana who placed in the race last year.33/1 on here. |
|
By:
i think some 'dark horses' will appear in time for March (assuming we get some racing before then) and it will be a good renewal.
With better ground and breathing fixed, not giving up on CC just yet, fto over jumps to run second isn't too shabby. Form with Silv Cont looking ok too. (fwiw, if it's soft ground i'd be with Royal Charm rather then Ghiz, looks better horse to me) |
|
By:
unclepuncle hilarious how after all the time I've been on here you can only think of an injured horse I backed in the Guineas to have a dig, that is a compliment really isnt it, the other bet being Canford Cliffs while you were kissing St Nicholas Abbeys backside. You only have to mention the words cowardly arber to get your hackles up.
|
|
By:
geton I dont think you can be so simplistic re Captain Chris, you need to put it into a better perspective than that imo. I think we have already seen the Arkle winner already this season and for me it is looking a high quality race as is the RSA.
|
|
By:
Kirk - if you can show me any post where I mentioned having a single penny on St Nicholas Abbey I'd be very grateful, as I know full well I never had a penny on him for the Guineas.
As for being an arber I'm not totally sure what that means - if it means laying off the whole or part of a bet at lower odds than I have backed at then I'm guilty as charged but you often mention having traded off to get free bets to win many thousands of pounds so surely that makes you an arber too .And as for the huge bets and wins you claim to have - I have said on numerous occassions that I will travel anywhere in the UK for you to show me the proof - as yet no invite, wonder why[:x] If you want I'll bring back the hilarious thread where you slag off your alter ego Kirs St Moritz - I've heard about having a split personailty but that really was priceless. ![]() |

By:
Yes I'm sure you take all jokes very seriously. Lots of smilies dont hide the fact you are a clueless ball-less arber.
|
|
By:
Which bets are you referring to that I have won on by the way which you would travel to see?
|
|
By:
I am not an arber I set out to hold my bets right up until the race or week before then might tweak a book which carries a lot of risk ... arbers lay off asap and have no intention of keeping their bets until the day(s) before the race.
|
|
By:
Around 90% of my bets arent laid off. I have 5 figures on multiples currently, how the hell am I meant to lay that off smart@rse?

That is not the thread leading up to the Guineas on Steinbeck during which he became injured and missed the race.
You have conveniently not posted the massive pre-Guineas thread up where a certain poster explained why St Nicholas Abbey would not win the Guineas and explained this with past stats on Guineas winners and comparisons between the Racing Post Trophy and Dewhurst as a Guineas trial. This against many posters saying St Nick was Sea The Stars reincarnated, the thread become so long as those inexperienced antepost punters wouldn't have it. Also 'insiders' like Prima Donna were proven totally wrong re St Nick and the Guineas but at least he didnt act like a feeble adult used to kissing the bosses @ss to get on rather than showing real ability and didnt turn stalker after losing face. Respect to him for that as I can understand that those other than me can get it wrong sometimes. The same thread a certain poster also suggested Canford Cliffs was the most likely Guineas winner after Steinbeck's injury. Other respected posters were claiming he wouldnt stay, however though he wasn't ready on the day he did turn out Champion miler. There is an awful lot of drivel written on here, total guessing driven by bets, rather than objective debate and that is true of the current set of most frequent posters on here with the exception of aka, budd and a few others. If anyone who knows antepost really well with several decades of active experience in the markets points out Menorah is the real deal with others touting a bumper winner novice over him and backs it up with hard cash, or reads a trainers thoughts/campaigning pattern re Royal Charm and posts up the conclusions of that, or that St Nick would not be suited to the Guineas in many respects the way to react to all of these is not to look at your bet and not like what you read/attack the poster giving that opinion (you know how well their predictions have turned out in the past and really dont like it, I understand that), the way to react is learn from it and quit the guessing to suit your bet or you will never improve. |
