Yes, it's almost upon us again, well 5 months but close enough. My favourite race, flat or jumps of the whole season, I devote more time to this than most things over the winter.

We managed to keep this going all last season with some fantastic contributions, thoughts and analysis.

I'll add my thoughts (for what they're worth) on as many of the 'trials' as I can get to (down south) over the next few months.

Should start seeing some early contenders out over the next 3 or 4 weeks, so lots to report.

The one horse, at this stage, i'm most eagerly anticipating making his debut is Captain Chris. He struck me as something special lto, time will tell.

Cheers and good luck all.

Given you've obviously put a lot of effort into the race Reyes....whats your record like....you done OK ?

At this early stage I like many others no doubt am looking forward to see how Medermit shapes up over fences although it's a negative with Choc Thornton being out for most of the season. I had him backed for this last season after King said he would go down the Arkle route only for him to change his mind after the good hurdle runs. He'd be the most interesting at this early stage given the stats bear out a horse with a high hurdle ratings normally wins the Arkle.

I am also eagerly anticipating captain Chris's debut, I have helped myself to the standout 20/1 available albeit for small stakes as it is very early in the season.

Gmooh is also of interest along with medermit, a few others I am intrigued by but cheltenham targets are yet unknown.

This will be a good thread Reyes. At this stage i have horses in mind but nothing i'm willing to back at this stage. I think i will wait but i'll look in to the race a bit and report my early thoughts.

Where does the Sang Bleu confidence come from please?

I can't see one piece of evidence in his form that suggests he is remotely close to being a grade one horse.

Many of the past few winners had shown near grade one form over hurdles before transferring to fences. I know they are a different discipline, but it at least shows they have the necessary class required to win the race.

I know Sang Bleu is very light raced and open to improvement no doubt, but it'll have to be significant improvement on any of his hurdle form to challenge some already proven grade 1 performers.

CS - rumoured to be at Kempton in a couple/few weeks.

Scobster - do ok at it. 4 of the last 5 winners (missed forpady)

Bravado - wonder where Medermit will start off? He's of definite interest.

cheers.

EC - Great write up, also gives me a bit of confidence that you see James de Vassy as an arkle horse

Good stuff Reyes, let's hope it turns out to be as profitable as last years Cool

Get Me Out Of Here is my early selection, although there's about 5 others that are interesting too.

a tad ot, but i liked the way M.Flips jumped today, might be worth keeping in mind for something like the Grand Annual (although best 2 wins have come at Kempton??)

Another Captain Chris fan here.I would like to see him stay over hurdles as very fast and fluent although he does look like a chaser in the making. He never handled coming down the hill at Cheltenham on his last run imo but hopefully a bit more experience he will over come that problem. He will be really exciting this season whichever code he runs in

I'm a big fan of Oscar Whisky he ran a cracker at the festival, i also like Finians Rainbow but i now think FR will run in the new race.
This new race will make all our ante-post punting more difficult.

Capt Chris here too, would have prefered he was higher rated over hurdles, but am sure he would have been in the mid 150's had he raced more often.

I think Oscar Whiskey will stay over hurdles and go for something like The Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las. The owner would be pretty keen to win it.

For those Medermit fans he looked very good when I saw him this week and I reckon you will have seen him race before too long.

If you go into a local shop would they give you a price on a horse not priced up or you need to ring up?
By:

When: 08 Oct 10 09:41
They would have to phone through to the trading office but after a discussion you will probably get quoted 25,33 or 50!

Finians Rainbow is my main early fancy as well and if it wasn't for the new 2m4f noviec chase I'd be having a decent bet.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Oscar Whisky and Flat Out - though I'm not 100% sure if they are gong chasing?

Think chasing is the plan for Flat Out, but possibly more an RSA type, which from memory that's what Mullins said in the MArk Howard book interview.

I must admit I thought he looked an RSA type straight after his effort in the Supreme Novices last year

What do we make of Golan Way?

Looked a really nice sort winning a good novice hurdle at Cheltenham last year, perhaps didn't quite live up to that promise but absolutely cantered up on his first chasing start.

2m might not be ideal for him but he could just bomb off in front and not get caught. Then again the 2m4f/RSA might be a better option for him, especially as the 2m4f has no lustre about it whatsoever yet so could be a far weaker field than the others.

Feltham next i think Joist. Might suit him round there.

Talking of Kempton, rumour is that Captain Chris will start off there next Sunday (along with Menorah)

Here's hoping

I think there will be more nice horses than the pair of them running at the meeting. Will be best meeting of the season so far in terms of quality.

No mention of American Trilogy on Nicholls site?
Does that mean injured again? Hasn't schooled well? Keeping him under the radar?

Re American Trilogy-Nicholls  in  current Weekender

"Did us proud 18 months ago when easily winning the County Hurdle off a mark of 135 and he then went up to 152.Unfortunately he was injured when schooling which put paid to any plans for last season. He is in good order now and I am considering starting him off over hurdles to sharpen him up before going novice chasing"
