Evening PHS, how's the jumps season treating you?
By:
Hi Ben.
Don't do jumps at all. Not something I've ever got into TBH. |
By:
Really, I enjoy the small field slogs on heavy, usually find some nice prices, particularly at the Northern tracks. Just the all weather then, you looked at any of the maidens much recently? Look out for Haafhds first time out on the all weather, quite a few improve 10lbs for it.
By:
Not looked at any maidens with a view to finding winners i.e. not in anything like the detail like I was. Only for laying purposes if anything looks wrong.
By:
not long to the flat now lads.
By:
Thanks for bringing this back up. I picked up a lot of pointers from it last year due to the expertise of the main contributors, like PHS and Ben. I have to say that despite the headlong rush to Cheltenham I am really looking forward most to the return of the Flat, a complete turn around for me in the last two or three years.

Curragh on Sunday as a nice appetiser and a group race in France tomorrow too

This may well have been covered earleir on the thread.
Hear it time an many about sires & offsprings preference for ground conditions. But surely thats only part of the jigsaw what if the dam /dams sire /grand dam all had a preference for the opposite type of going ? Doesnt that have just as much bearing. |
By:
TLP has a theory that that's the most important part for going preference, I'm sure he'll elaborate.

You have a point but it is easier to have opinions about sires which have lets say 100 runners a year than dams who have one. Personally I operate mainly in 2-y-o races and try to get over this problem by rating sires on a binary system +1 conditions ideal , 0 ok, -1 condition agst. Now when I have a 0 I will then look at the following: 1. The dam 2. The strength of the opposition. |
By:
in the 2.10 at folf today molly mylennis is the only horse among the
principles sure to handle the ground imo. any thoughts. |
By:
I hope so as I backed it last night but I thought Shafgaan might do too, the sire and damsire both have decent heavy ground stats over 12%
By:
redal iwill be surprised if shafgaan handles the ground .
oasis dream is a big influence for fast ground horses although the damsire night shift to be fair does get a few soft ground performers. |
By:
Only problem I can see is Needwood Blade is only2-29 on soft and heavy going with 2-y-o's so far. But i agree Molly Mylenis is the best of a bad lot.
But then the bonus races are going to take the best horses. |
By:
you would think molly would pick up a similar event next time out
lost more ground than it was beat at the start. |
By:
3.10 folk rio mist will love this ground imo.
By:
good call tlp. I was looking for dangers to MM and she ended up beating herself in the stall. Price gone next time as well.
I had a tip for Caramelita but agree Captain Rios in this ground are always a danger. |
By:
Win and the exacta :-)
By:
well done m8.
By:
harlech castle the most likely to handle the ground in the next.
By:
Signore Momente, another Capt. Rio with good Irish record on the ground? But yes HC has a good Southwell record which is a bit like soft/heavy ground IMO
By:
Disaster all round there, happily HC should be OK
By:
surely molly mylennis will take revenge in the 2.15 at leic today .
any thoughts guys. |
By:
You'd think so but I've taken a hit in the last couple of 2yo races so will watch. Wouldn't be shocked if Calormen won but the yard seem slow off the mark.
By:
surely they must turn this around.
By:
terrible decision. Just what do they have to do to be thrown out? That cost MM more than half a length surely? British racing is way out of step in these things.
By:
Lay Preacher
V.v.unlucky - that was a shocking stewards decision |
By:
a bad decision alright .
really like what a friend at aintree am i on my own. |

WD tlp. Strange goings on at Taunton
By:
jubilant note the one today 7.15 wolver.
By:
Not when it's held out the back till the last bend. When will they ever learn?
By:
the nell gwyn today at 4.10 the the filly who should be most
suited to the predicted fastish going at newkmarket is atasari imo others that will like the ground are safina dyna waltz and srda. any thoughts guys. |
By:
Have no concrete views but couldn't disagree with what you say
By:
Afternoon guys, thought Distinctive might be the value but tough race to fathom with the inexperienced ones, do think Atasari will beat Music Show at least.
Quite fancy Theology in the maiden towards the end of the card, depends how quick the ground is riding though. |
By:
the quicker the ground the better for that one ben.
