just to muddy the waters further -and yes i do keep harping on about it Salmon but its not necessarily aimed at you as many others do this -if you stop people from using the option of not reposting a selection from the night before after a meeting is abandoned becos thats a massive advantage over someone that can only post on the day of racing .
Madhatters made a very valid point that he can only post the night before due to work so cant post during the day -someone goes on holiday for 2 weeks and cant post during the day -what in theory is the fifference? -the fact that someones posted the previous night and "made the effort" curries favour over someone who cant make a selection due to one reason or another -surely if you are to get rid of LRF then whoever ends up with a n/r has to repost or use up one of their lives if they cant/wont -cant really see much difference in the scenarios really and tbh anyone would think it was a perfect system this LRF malarkey ![]() -just my opinion though |
|
By:
I've said I CAN repost SOMETIMES but prefer not to mainly because it upsets my own routine. If you changed the rules I daresay I would repost 50% of the time rather than have a loser, but madhatter is a case of somebody who knows he can't because of work commitments so makes the effort to put one up the night before. Tbh this whole thing has basically arisen because of one or two people who years ago left standing instructions for LRF because they didn't know if they would be able to post from work. There never seemed to be much problem about people like me ( and you shearer ) who only gave notice about needing to use instructions beforehand when we were going on holiday and the vast majority of people lost a pt if they didn't post out of the blue.

Hi lads,
I will vote to ditch LRF because I think there has been a marked increase in non-posters since this option came in a couple of years ago. This current default option gives everyone a free nap for TEN days per month without posting and encourages laziness/indifference. I make the effort to post every day (night before) except when away on holiday or business or if computer wont work, irrespective of the sh1te cards that we have to trawl through on Mondays/Tuesdays (especially in the winter). Others don't. If you give people 10 free posts per months as is the current situation then some will take them and if you then offer them the LRF for non-posting they are even happier because you have picked a horse for them. However, if you give them a free day for non-posting with no profit or loss then you avoid the debacle of a 9/2 default winner as we saw yesterday while not penalising those that can't post (as would be the case if you went to an automatic no post equals -1 system). If you limit this to x non posts per year (36, 48 or 60) then they have to pick more times per year than they currently do (current 120 free days is ridiculous). Having x free days( I vote 60 max, 5 per month) means they can miss as many as they want with holidays or computer issues without penalty until they get to the 61st day. Those that cant be arsed to post at this time of year during the awful racing we face in the run-up to the festivals will be the ones that run out of 'grace days' quickest (especially as they will need to save some for their summer holidays or potential emergencies) and so will be under most pressure to not miss days later in the year. Last day should stay the same rules (all must post, no duplicates). Sundays would be the settlers decision - I would go for including them in 60 grace days rather than optional - but I'm not the poor bugger that has to put the tables together (although I've never seen a Sunday that hasn't had to have a table done for it). No-one should be allowed more than 10 grace days per month (avoids someone picking a 14/1 winner early in month and then not posting again in am effort to be promoted or Prem Champ). From what I've read I see that Reged seems to think he can do the spreadsheet amendments to make it easy to keep a track on used days, irrespective of any promotion/relegation. I am fully aware that when I vote no to keeping LRF then I could end up with a new simple rule that says 'no post, minus one, no exceptions' and I will be buggered to the extent of losing around 8 to 12 points every August holiday (as will many others) and again if/when I go away on business for a fortnight at a time (as I do!), but Reged has assured us this is not the fixed alternative and I have faith in the settlers to come up with something a little less draconian so, to reiterate, I have voted NO to keeping the LRF rule. Sorry for yet another dissertation-like ramble but a few days reasoning amongst ourselves here has to happen to determine the best ideas for the longer term rulings we will have to live with. Cheers, Mad. |

Yawn. ITS A FCKING GAME. In my opinion so long has everyone has a selection a day, WHEREVER its come from, then the comp is fair. Unfortunately their are those in life who look for every angle to take advantage of others. Oh dear a 9/2 winner.
|
|
By:
I'm sure there are lots of people, like me, who simply forget to post. If you want a FAIR challenge, then EVERYONE should have a selection per day. How many last race favs go in?? FFS change it to the outsider of the field in the last race if it stops them ****ing moping. Oh wait, when the 20/1 winner goes in in 50 weeks time there will be an outcry again.

I also usually forget last day rules and don't get a selection. So what.

If all you jealous crybaby types must persist with this I suggest 36 LRF's a year, the counter should be easy enough for the mods to handle..... reset every grand national day or whatever.
This thread has so much sh1t in it that words fail me. Some people need to seriously get a life. This is fun people so don't bring your petty work and motion practices into your happy place. Gets off soapbox ![]() |

I have no objections to LRF - in the long run it really hardly matters. But it is useful if you're on holiday and wake up midday with a hangover and don't have to scrabble around to post. Why not just limit it to 10 days a year instead of 10 days a month?
If it does get scrapped it's not too hard to write some code that will automatically post it anyway, though I'd rather do something more productive with my time. |

Reged suggested i put this on here from the 'Scrap it thread'
The biggest joke with the comp. is not LRF or odds on naps it's the multi player sado's , currently 129 names in the 4 divisions but the reality is that actual individual persons amount to probably less than two thirds of the 129 players , laughable really. Andrew in Sweden 04 Mar 14 19:03 Is it really a fair and democratic vote if posters are allowed to use their 'alter ego' identities (some have more than 2) ? DeSSieReborn 04 Mar 14 23:00 Do I take it from this that some people are actually in the leagues more than once ie using more than one name?? alleged22 04 Mar 14 23:21 id rather know the answer to dessies question? grey shark 05 Mar 14 19:43 At least one individual on here has enough user names to have his own division ..... very sad. Optimize 05 Mar 14 21:16 Just popped on to have a read and i have to agree with the above poster who makes a very valid point -all a bit of a farce really isnt it . IMHO 10 LRF a month is to many i'd reduce it to 3,4 or 5 a month max and if someone bags a 9/2 LRF like a few days ago then so be it , as said by others it's only a game , well for some of us it is but for the multi players it's clearly the highlight of their day . Anyway must go as i've got a dozen naps to sort out ![]() |

I really don't get this fuss over 'alter egos'. What IS the problem? If I had more than one BF ID and wanted to post for each of the ones I had, so what? There is, perhaps, more of a case to be made for people who post for those who are not members. Technically speaking you could come up with a thousand different names and put up selections for all of them. Wouldn't that make life interesting?
This might be worth looking at. But only because it is a potential problem for the settlers, not for anyone else. I couldn't give a moneys if Santa Claus and all his elves and reindeer wanted to have a go. What would interest me is if any of them were any good.I don't know the reason why most who post for other identities do so, but I do know that shane posts for La Mallatiere. I occasionally do it when shane's not around - LM emails me so I know he exists. And he lives in France where, apparently, he can't post to Betfair. Is this a problem for you guys? So how to distinguish a Mallatiere from some other poster's 'alter ego' that is simply made up. How would we find out? Question each one until they spill the truth? A BF version of the Spanish Inquisition perhaps? (cue 'No one expects etc ...) Shane also posts for someone called Nijinsky. That at one time was his dad, not a BF member, but had an interest. His dad stopped doing it, but shane carried on, doing it himself. Is that such a terrible thing? Do you want to tell shane to stop it? Why? What harm is he doing? This is a free, fun comp. Try to get a sense of perspective guys please! And ... if a selection can be posted for an 'alter ego' then most assuredly a vote can. Otherwise we are practicing a double standard. HTH ![]() |

REGED , nice rant
, that's your opinion we all have our own , and i'm fully aware Shane's connections and his is a more acceptable situation , think it was Knight Commander div 2 settler who wrote a third of players are multiple users and i'll agree to that , personally couldn't give a flying as i'm fortunate in that i'm in the camp of it's just a game and NOT the highlight of my day . |

Spoke to Shane yesterday he is still in hospital waiting for his op and he asked how is Naps were going and told me to say hello to all the "Bast**** on Betfair LOL"
I don't understand it is taking so long my sister was in and out the same day after her Stent op do you think it could be something to do with the Nurses Uniform? |

QUOTE BY reg:
And ... if a selection can be posted for an 'alter ego' then most assuredly a vote can. Otherwise we are practicing a double standard. Did you help the Labour unions in the Falkirk bi-election? You are asking for a democratic vote - i.e. 1 man 1 vote to get a consensus - this is not what is happening and you are happy with it. Very poor form Reg tbh. |
|
By:

Shane should really stop wearing that in a hospital - it's bound to lead to confusion ![]() |
|
By:
ming, how do you suggest I sort out what are the 'genuine' votes? ... I think linking this to Falkirk is losing a sense of proportion TBH.
|
|
By:
Reg I don't think it is your job to sort it out. If people have more than one identity it is up to them to be honest and just have the one vote, if they choose to have 2 or 3 then so be it, we are not voting on the launch of a cruise missile.
Shane set an example when I asked him to vote for himself and Nijinsky he replied he would just vote for the one ID. |

Reged , in the process of opening more accounts to give me more chance of winning the Premier prize so sorry if that means more work for your settling
![]() Remind me what is the prize ? A grand ? Racecourse tickets ? £10 M&S voucher ? Betfair baseball cap ? Reged says "there is NO prize" No prize !! Not even a Betfair cap like you wear Reg ? However the winning individual usually celebrates with himself and all his egos , general back slapping , champagne or they and their egos get together for a circle jerk at the sheer pleasure of winning such a world famous competition " Ok Reg thanks for your all your valuable advice , but i'd still like a Betfair cap though . |
