Sir Rembrandt...you can pick your first four or five days from the early declarations and not be penalised if they are non-runners...that has always been the case and still is I believe

I have done that before Madhatter. The problem I have with that is that the night before going on holiday picking a few horses from about a 1000 entries is not really high on my list of priorities and I don't even have little brats to worry about Laugh

a holiday period should be a minimum of 7 days with a maximum of 28 days per year. sundays should still be left optional.

LRF  should be scrapped, if you don,t post its -1, this is a tipping competition and not posting is not tipping and they should not profit from this.

If you have to have a LRF then make the SP either the equivalent of the lowest price winner of the day in that division or the actual SP whichever is lower, that way your unlikely  get the ridiculous situation of the LRF being either the biggest or one of the biggest winners of the day in that division.

alleged I agree in principle with what you say. The problem I have with it, is why should I be relegated for going on holiday? It would be interesting if the 6 (?) people who had LRF in div 3 actually explained in tomorrows thread why they didn't post and did so honestly. I would guess all 6 would have had an opportunity to post something.

I looked at todays cards for 5 minutes, thought sod this and picked a short price fav, but at least I posted. Shame really i would have had a 9/2 winner otherwise!

that seems ok alleged22 but I think you need 36 days so as to be divisible by 12 to allow a round number of holiday days for people joining during the calendar year

lol alleged -dont forget lad that these lrfs have got to win and if it was such a good system everyone in the premier would be using it WinkWinkLaughLaugh

And yes im speaking as someone who is lucky enough most years to go on holiday -in my case ive got mates who can post for me but why should anyone that isnt in that position  be penalised for being on holiday
IMO you open a big can of worms if you do away with it as there are other issues such as people posting the night before and then the meeting being off -anyway you look at it they get an unfair advantage if they dont repost an alternative selection (and most dont re-select by the way) whereas the on the day posters are forced to select from a smaller crop of selections  -surely then they should go down as non posters using the theory that they can get a mate to post or repost themselves .LRF is a lottery as no guarantee of a winner  so why try and fix what aint broken ConfusedConfused

I like to go on holiday as well, but to go on holiday and come back in profit is wrong, but neither should I be worse off, if my opponents should pick winners while im away on hols, then fair play them....

I propose holidays should be taken the week before chelts as it is dross Laugh

just strengthens the nr /no post debate that though alleged -should you get credit for picking 5 potential nrs from the 5day decs as opposed to being on lrfs -who still have to win by the way -thats what has been put up as one suggestion by someone on this thread. There aint no happy medium here and we are already just over a 1/6th into the  season from year to year for the yearly naps table so whatever is decided as being fair cant be seen to be fair for those that take that part of the competition seriously (and many clearly do it seems ShockedShocked  ) so any changes cant really take place until Jan 2015 .In the meantime we should bring up what are seen to be grey areas in the comps and have debates and votes on threads similar to this on a regular basis and let the majority vote win the day -fairest way as far as i can see

Pete -cracking result yesterday -nearly cried in me beer when those two wonder goals went in in quick succession WinkWinkLaughLaugh

Anyone that normally picks during the day of race and then changes to picking the evening before in the hope that the meeting is off is very sad. Does this really happen?

I always pick the night before because I don't have access to betfair at work. Am I to be penalised for this if the meeting gets called off or my horse doesn't run and I can't repost? Or do I have to pick a reserve nap (at a second meeting) in case my first one doesn't race or the meeting is called off?

Trust me - there is no advantage whatsoever to posters such as me. N/R's, abandonments, changes in going, trainer comments, top tipster selections, late money - none of that information is available to me at time of posting.

Right - off to work I go!

Last race favourite - keep or scrap?

The Last Race Favourite option has caused great controversy, with a number calling for it to be scrapped. We are asking all members of the Naps Competition for your simple view on the LRF. Should we keep it or scrap it? To let us know your opinion please vote on the thread entitled:

LAST RACE FAVOURITE - KEEP OR SCRAP?

All those taking part in the competition, including those for whom others post their naps, have a vote. We will be looking for a majority among those who actually vote, on the basis that those that don't clearly don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. So please, if you have an opinion, make sure you vote.

The vote will close at midnight on Saturday March 8

Cheers! Happy

I have just read the last 88 posts on here, having read the previous ones. Nearly lost the will to live, butI am quite sure that the idea that people should have a certain number of rest days over a year is a non-starter. Sounds fine in theory but in practice we would soon have no settlers left.Just too complicated to keep track of.
I don't think I am going to vote in the referendum. I can't honestly say that I am happy with LRF BUT some reasonably clever people ( and some others )have not come up with anything better imo.
I am therefore an abstainer but I am going to follow orders and not clutter up that thread with something other than a yes or no.

I have noticed new settlers usually take a bit of time to settle in Reg. That's with you and Shane around to advise them. I think it would be one complication too many, but I speak as somebody who has never knowingly been within 100yds of a spreadsheet.
I'll think about voting but tbh IF I had two usernames you would get one in each camp at the moment.

Thought he was going to say, but i speak as somebody who has never knowingly been within 100yds of putting up a selection that wasn't odds-on!

Guys. If you are occasionally obliged to use the LRF rule because you have other commitments, then please be aware that the way this vote is going the rule is going to be scrapped, with no foreseeable replacement
I for one am obliged to use it occasionally (maybe 2 or 3 days a month) because I have no choice, and I'm sure that applies to a number of you.
It is true to say that one of the biggest LRFs we have ever had came in yesterday, adding fuel to the fire for the LRF haters, and to look at the divisions you will see LRFs dominating the top postions. BUT this is a false position and you will see over a period of time that this will even out.
If they have their way then you will find that going on holiday will most likely result in your relegation. At least with the LRF rule you have a chance.
If you don't want to lose it vote YES now, because otherwise at the weekend you will lose this option forever.

I think everyone has got a little ahead of themselves ... NO decision has been made about what would replace LRF if it were scrapped. We're just trying to find out if there's a strong enough consensus for it

How about you bring in that selections must be made by 12 midnight the day before to take away the big advantage that those available to pick on the day, enjoy?
