Serving flat-footed, was called for five foot faults -- in a single game. |

Just realized that was the match that earned Fognini a spot in the quarters, and then withdrew against Novak due to struggles from this match.
And then that match lead to a loss in rhythm for Novak as he had days without playing and then had this monster streak broken in the semis against Roger. |
By:
*4 days without playing
By:
ah it's Tourte umpiring. Then not the same umpire as in that Fognini match from 2011.

The 24-year-old Italian, if truth be told, is a bit of a drama queen. He has a pleasingly laconic style; he is a shot-maker of legendary proportion. He has never won a singles title, but his antic gestures are worthy of a trophy.

1.43 for ages during medical, then into 1.33
By:
market not impressed with that hold to love.
By:
wasn't it the poster YYYY who once said he used to judge whether someone was going to win by the way they walked out onto court, could tell if they were carrying an injury, and looking at body language, might explain the drop when Matteo walked back out lol.
By:
don't remember, but I would agree with that.
By:
Berrettini's history also doesn't bode well.
By:
I'd say if players are looking down when walking out, they're carrying something.
If players are looking up, smiling, and bouncing towards the chair, they're not. |
By:
The money held at 1.43 for ages then shot in from 1.43 to 1.33 before he came back out though. Just the market being weird.
By:
is this theory about before the match or after an offcourt medical?
By:
Think it's after an offcourt medical. Definitely some validity to it too. Body language looks bad here though.
By:
his theory was when they walked out onto court for the first time, but it can extend to walking back out onto court as well, facial expressions, body language, signs of limping, holding a part of their body too long etc
By:
if something is really bothering him and he feel he can't win, I can see him tapping, even in a match as big as this.
By:
Arnaldi with a few basic errors here.
By:
Yeah, tap would be no surprise here.
By:
It's like what I said yesterday, I just can't trust backing Berrettini because of his recent history, his body can't be fully trusted to fight for your money.
By:
that looked bad
By:
I've never seen the combination of a player hobbling like that and his team saying "no more" and the player then go on.
By:
tap
By:
Poor big Matteo.
By:
thanks for the free monies. But I feel for Berrettini. Finally playing well after so many years and then his body says no again.

Crazy the market held at 1.43 for so long during the MTO.
By:
Feel a bit bad for Arnaldi too. This should be the moment of his life and then he can't fully enjoy it.

But while his mind might be conflicted I am sure his body is happy with the easy day.

Arnaldo vs Cobolli for a spot in the GS Final, was not expecting that. Though on reflection an Italian in the final always seemed inevitable

Italian football youth coaches must be seething.

By:
Kids won't be choosing their sport.
By:
it was bound to happen that some player would break down after all the five setters we have had there.
By:
Think it's fair to say it's probably the weakest semi final line up I can ever remember at the French Open, no big 3/4 anymore, no Sinner or Alcaraz here, no former slam winner, only 1 player in the top 10, and one player outside the top 100 with a peak ranking of 30. Maybe someone can remember a weaker semi final line up here but can't think of it, there's always been a Nadal, Federer, Novak and later on, Sinner and Alcaraz, for as long as I can remember in the semis.

By:
Cobolli vs Arnaldi, Maja C vs Shnaider.
Scalpers who bought tickets for semis days will be seething. |
By:
cant think of any year even close mes. the top players have really had a shocker at this tournament
By:
The women's as well, no former slam winners or finalists, 1 top 10 player, and a qualifier ranked 114th
By:
both men and women btw. some absolutely rotten performances from the seeds and higher ranked players
By:
posted same time mes
