Hopefully it's just a one off, Sinner and Alcaraz will be back next year, Fonseca will challenge, and Draper if he ever stays fit, could at least be a threat on the hard courts at least.

yeah, men's tennis not looking bad overall.

ATP is looking awesome.

t's not just the most random/weakest semi at the French, but in all the slams, doesn't bother me as long as there's good matches but doesn't help with TV audiences and crowds as mentioned earlier.
Vaguely remember US Open during the empty stadium, Covid period not being the strongest in the mens, slam finalists there but no winners, though the women's was strong. |

Fonseca will come good with his Delpo esque, sledgehammer forehand shot, he will be box office for the next few years, probably needs to still get used to the rigours of 5 set tennis, he simply ran out of gas the other night.
Still think Shelton either can come good, will never be Sinner/Alcaraz level, but this guy can win a slam if he pulls it all together, probably at the US Open, Hodar has a lot of potential if he can beef up as well. You also never know who's around the corner. |

Don't usually get involved with challengers, but just checked to see the scoreline in that 3 set match
..4 hours and 30 minutes WTF ![]() That's has to be the longest 3 set match I've ever heard of |

Don't think the semi with Kostyuk and Andeeva is weak, maybe rating wise, but Andreeva is young and will surely win a few grand slams, and Kostyuk is unbeaten on clay this year beating soome of the best.

Wimbledon 1996 even more random than this RG.

It was mostly the men's we were thinking about which is the weakest semi final line up in many many years, but even with the women, we're not saying it's weak per se, we're saying it's probably the weakest we can remember compared to yesteryear, which it is. Kostyuk and Andreeva was the semi I predicted in my bracket, good players but you think back to high calibre semis including Swiatek at her best, Henin, Sharapova, Halep, Serena, Barty and the like, they were different level. Mirra and Marta still have to prove it and are not household names. Mirra's most famous outside of tennis for fawning over Andy Murray.

I don't remember tennis that far back, too young but that does look a random list
|
|

My earliest memory of Wimbledon was during one of those agonising and lengthy rain delays, can't remember what year it was, obviously pre roof, and they used to use pre-recorded fillers to fil the air time til it stopped raining, they did a piece with Sampras, I just remember them randomly filming him whilst he was on his bed, on his stomach, looking up watching the BBC weather report, but also thinking when he spoke, how boring he was.

Great stat mentioned a minute ago, first time all 4 semi finalists were born in the 2000's
|
|
By:
kostyuk in freefall. probably doesnt help when you put so much pressure on yourself to beat the 'enemy'
|
|
By:
battering so far, Marta looks too nervous and tense to hit balls properly.
was going to say before the match given how emotional she can be at times, that I'd take odds on Mirra crying again in her chair if she lost a la Madrid, rate this is going it could be done in an hour. |

Radio 5"live" sports extra 2 is even more useless than the main "service". Even bet 356 stream is faster. Must be a minute behind the action. Not value for my licence fee i'm afraid. Still it least it's not that stupid "bringing you more live sport" jingle that I hear every time I switch it on expecting some actual "more live sport".

Andreeva is the better player isn't she? political considerations apart.

It's pretty close. Today Andreeva har been far better though.

Mirra unreal so far today. Match up seems to suit her too. Can't remember who is on outright but well played 1.53 lpm.

ffs messed up my Russian geography. Meant to say Vladivostok instead of Murmansk.

people think women not getting the evening slot is to do with sexism. no its not. its because of matches like this where a player takes a beating and its all over in less than an hour. there would be plenty more womens matches in the evening slot here if women played bo5 like the men
|
|
By:
yes it's online and I agree with your point about tuning in having been told on 5Live that the tennis "is on Live right now on 5live sports extra", only to tune in and hear the jingle yet again. this happened the other day at 2:30 p.m. so. I tuned in only to hear later that coverage wouldn't start until 4 O'clock.

Always wondered how different the accents become as you move across Russia and if they differ wildly, in England you only have to go to the next city and it's like a foreign language with how strong their dialects can be, and we're tiny country in comparison.

The best live feed you can get is the odds, without even trading you look at the odds and you even know when someone has just double faulted.
|
|
By:
Mirra prone to go walkabouts, and this is a massive occasion...
|
|
By:
not shrewd of Mirra to go and get a big lead. Now the crowd is massively behind Marta.
|
|
By:
true mes. theres never any delays when it comes to money

By:
I don't think we'll ever get back to actual live coverage like we had 50 years ago, sadly, but there's no need for the deliberate built-in delays on terrestrial telly. I suppose it's to allow a delay for bad language or other unscheduled rudeness. Still annoys me though.

By:
Massive hold that. 3-2* and the crowd going wild could have turned the match upside down for a while.
|
|
By:
One of the reasons for intentional delays are things like inappropriate moments or pitch invasions, demonstrations etc, gives directors time to cut away, which is why in football you never see them any more and why women stopped stripping off to run across the pitch with some slogan sprayed across her, which is a great shame.
