Shanghai 1st rd Rosol, whom he had beaten 2-0 in Miami, Djoker waiting for the winner
By:
beating Rosol again, this time 6-4, 7-6(3), didn't expect it to be that easy, now facing WRL #1 again after Nadull in RG
By:
39th in race and ranking, unlikely to gain more than 45(35 in ranking) pts this week, so still a big task remaining for top 32
By:
while losing 3-6, 4-6 he showed some talent being broken only twice (compared to 6 times Berdych last Sunday
) and having 2 bps in 2nd set. 54% 1st serves rather low |
By:
seeded 8 in Vienna, playing Haase, 2nd rd Klizan or Becker, drawn in Kohlschreiber's quarter
By:
38th in ranking, 39th in race, 45 pts to defend in Vienna (QF)
By:
Thiem low 1.4x vs Haase, doubt it's value, but he should win
By:
1.53 now, this might be a fair price
By:
disappointing 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, again 1st serve didn't work at all (44%). when he was broken in 3rd set he should have challenged his 1st serve, call was wrong

top 32 year end almost impossible now, would need SF in Basel or QF in Paris and 2 wins in the other event, but there is still the chance of of achieving necessary Points in the 1st week of the new season to be seeded in Melbourne, we'll see if he does improve significantly during the winter break, though military service is calling as well
![]() |
By:
what kind of military service? I see he starts it in November
By:
Austria still has a compulsory military service, last year confirmed by a national referendum
, though I think he only has to make a 3 weeks basic training |
By:
Basel r1 it's Goffin again
, maybe he can win on 3rd try |
By:
this thread is dire.

By:
it's even 4th try on Goffin, sry. BF markets love Goffin for a long time now, sub 1.5 might be too short.
39th on ranking (35 pts off) and in race as well, 80 pts to be deducted after Bercy |
By:
Goffin becoming his nightmare, lost 6-7(4), 3-6, Thiem breaking 1st game of set 2 only to being broken twice on his next serving games. Higher percentage on 1st serve this time, but it wasn't nearly as efficient as Goffin's, who served 15 aces.

By:
Bercy rd 1 Dolgopolov, Wawrinka waiting for the winner
By:
37th in ranking, 40th in race
2.3x vs Dolgo |
By:
winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, now Wawa gets his chamce for revenge, but his form is even worse, interesting to see the odds

season finished with 4-6, 6-7(6) once broken back in set 1, failed to serve out 2nd set tb

summarizing the season:
matches at ATP level 22-22(+1 wo), DC 0-1, qualies 17-1, best results US-O r4, Kitzbühel(250) F highest ranked player beaten Wawrinka #3, 1-5 vs top 10, 1-2 vs #11-#20, 6-4 (incl 1 wo) vs #21-#30, 4-2 vs #31-#40, 2-1 vs #41-#50, 10-4 vs #51-#100, 15-7 vs #100+ highest ranking 36, season ending @ 39 (from 139 ye 2013) |

not nominating Thiem for most improved player is a shocking omission
![]() |
By:
while Coric is a deserved newcomer (star of tomorrow), I still believe Thiem should have been nominated for most improved player, not saying he should have won it, but nominated instead of Cilic for sure.

starting the 2015 season in Doha and Auckland, the latter with a stronger field than Sydney. 82 pts to defend in Jan (12 Doha, 70 Melbourne)
By:
dropped 13 lbs in weight for better movement during preparation in Teneriffa
By:
skipping Doha due to illness, the whole preparation didn't go very well, 3 weeks for the military service in November, some illness spells already in Teneriffa. Therefor it's difficult to make forecasts how the season will develope. The former goal (besides winning a 1st tournament) of ramping up the rankings further into top 20 seems too ambitious under these circumstances. A top 30 spot would only need one or two highlights added to last years consistency, but if he Fails to reproduce that, he might even go backwards for some time.

By:
Auckland r1 playing Struff, Anderson waiting for the winner.
By:
as I've expected not a good start, SP 1.75, lost 7-6, 4-6, 3-6, 1st serve let him down in 2nd set, his fitness probably in 3rd, where he was without any chance.
By:
R1 AO RBA(13), which isn't easy though RBA didn't start the season at his best as well
By:
SP was 1.5 on RBA, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6, 6-7(5), Fading away after a good 1st set (7 bps), then vasting 3 sps in 4th set and losing serve three times in tb.
Ranking will drop from 40th losing 60 pts, next playing Rotterdam defending 65 pts. |
By:
no longer has no younger player ahead of him in rankings with Kyrgios overtaking.
Schedule seems to be Rotterdam, Marseille, Dubai, DC in question, then IW and Miami. |
By:
drawn Gulbis 1st rd Rotterdam, one of them will win his 1st match of the year. Danger of falling out of top 50 the following week
By:
^Have you considered following Dennis Novak as well, currently #312
By:
surprisingly easy win 6-4, 6-2, but it sometimes happens when Gulbis isn't in the mood. Not sure it's a good indication of Thiem's state of form. Odds had drifted on Gulbis from 1.5 to 1.7, but came back in before start.
2nd rd Granollers (h2h 3-0 all last year on clay) or Stakhovsky (never played him). 47th ranked this week with 45 of 65 pts already defended, but ist rather close in that region, so top 50 not yet secured |
By:
Dubai RBA for the 3rd time
47th tomorrow with 10 pts to defend next week Won't play DC in Sweden |
By:
Miami the 1st remarkable tournament result of the 2015 campaign, just in time to prevent playing qualies again
By:
with the QF he's back @ #42 and in top 50 of the 2015 race as well
By:
has been playing well keeping a high level of play up
Murray will be a step to far though |
