Fat Stan!................. you have to laugh! At least with him getting knocked out there is no chance of him making a challenge for Number 1 ranking. Fat Stan No 1. .............. it would be unbelievable!

not as popular as the Halep thread another Thiem hater who will have to eat his words today. |

probably about 40th in year's race now, time of playing qualies might end after Wimbledon.
3rd rd Youzhny or Lopez not unbeatable, both not in prime form |
By:
Newcomer of the year or most improved player should be in the bag already
By:
bravo Thiem!

just for the record: Wawa beaten 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. as he said to the press, in 1st set he had problems to accomodate with Wawa's pace. With the early break in set 2 and an improving 1st serve he played himself into the zone and the best match of his career. Also he didn't show weakness closing out the match like vs Giraldo in Barcelona.
To sum up the season so far: qualifying in 7 of 8 tournaments, 9-8 in main draw matches and DC beating 8 top 50 players, the highest ranked being Simon (#23) till yesterday. As ATP reports he is the youngest Player to beat a top 10 man since 2009. |
By:
where will the journey go to?
as I expect it won't go straight forward all the time with the current consistency it might be difficult to defend points next year without having to play qualies, but when he does another stop forward top 20 should be a realistic goal till 2016. No doubt he is top 10 material for the further future. |
By:
next to play Lopez, I expect odds to be near evens
By:
around 1.6 looks a bit low to me

walkover due to illness

will withdraw from Rome too acc to Bresnik
By:
new ranking high with 61, 39th in race
lost 4 kp in weight due to what was likely food poisoning in Madrid causing a change in schedule, rejoining the tour in Nice after missing Rome |
By:
no qualies necessary in Nice, rd 1 Steve Johnson, rd 2 Simon waiting for revenge
By:
climbed to 58 without having played, next week 10 pts to drop
By:
Odds 1.4 on Thiem in this match of the most improved players of 2014 so far, Johnson mainly did it on challengers though
By:
SP 1.46
winning 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-5, coming back from almost beaten several times |
By:
Simon @ 1.7 - he will probably win as Thiem doesn't seem to be back on his best yet
Thiem told after the Johnson match he wasn't expecting much, therefor stayed relaxed even when behind threatened to lose the match |
By:
SP was 1.65, lost 3-6, 6-4, 2-6, fought back in 2nd set, then faded away.
hoping for a full recovery and a good draw in RG |

shame to see rare upcoming talent having muggery side in his mentality, because if u see him play only 3 points its clear he has exceptional tennis brain and lot of skill trough very natural technique, but maverick side is what can hold him to raise quickly to become established top 20 , which is key to further progress in fulfilling massive potential in him. when u recall young djokovic or murray , nadal, potty etc(yes he is this rare caliber) they were head and shoulders tougher and shown this desire to win no matter what all the way since only started.he is making big impact on aging atp circuit and possessing unique style with kind of fresh approach the way he plays, but he really need to find this instinct or feel he is much better than others and just dig much deeper in his matches in my opinion.having good run of form ,he shouldnt let it just go, in matches when having some issues bothering him, by waiting for opponent to dictate on court only find winning character and try to be relentless as big players do.he sort of walkabout too much relying on pure talent, need to be tougher and even more focused imo when his game not going the way he would expect to flow. few points here there making the difference for top guys even if they not feel best on the day.
its kind of issue for young talents nowadays, dont want him to wonder around like dimi dolgo or nishi waiting to mature. need to impact this ranking quickly like for example raonic who making best of his game from start of his career(like mentioned top players did) even having more to catch up in his game than thiem(and them). match against johnson for example. he easily could find clear way to dig out of trouble when was behind facing defeat.soon he was in control and even stole momentum he relaxed and let it slip away.and steve to dominik is lots of levels apart, just shows some small issues im talking about. top players have ability to find their best before getting to do or die situations.that makes lot of difference in their winning ratios and build up even bigger belief they can defeat anybody they facing.its big thing in this game imo, separating talented from great winners. big fan of him tho, federer was sort of similar little bit before making his breakthrough.i like his style a lot ,he often rally point quite unique way producing deadly angles just hope he is aiming at the top straight, not settling for average he can reach easily |

there are different types of players: I doubt Raonic has much potential left, he may spend some years in top 10 like Berdych or Tsonga, but that's it. Mugray was a model of inconsistency within a match in early years (and still is to some extent), Djoker lacked physical strength and retired in some GS matches, while Fed needed some yeards to find out how to use his overwhelming skills at best till he made his breakthrough.
I refuse to predict how far Thiem can go and when he will reach his peak, I also don't know him enough to judge his mentality. I think he probably has top 10 potential and would be disappointed if he doesn't make top 20 within 3-4 years (possibility to make it within 2 years is there). Concerning RG I don't know how much the Barcelona illness has affected him to play at his best there, so I'll wait and see. |

RG 1st rd PHM, if he wins Nadull in 2nd
By:
1st rd odds around 1.5
will we see 1.1 SP if he plays Nadull in 2nd? |
By:
harsh draws for young prodigies in this rg
By:
improved to 57th with 20 pts for Nice (10 pts off), 44th in race.
After RG 6 pts will go off, but at least 10 added for 1st rd loss, 45 pts for 2nd rd might award top 55 |
