rather unexpected loss after leading with set and break - 6-4, 3-6, 2-6
ranking down to 84th, won't change much for next week with 7 pts gained, 63rd in race |
By:
unexpected? mahut is not kinda mug.domi choked a bit , match was still open after one set and early break, but it was 50-50 match still although muggish odds. just bad spell for freshman,he will bounce back.funny how those odds shaping usually with young talents, there is always point market overreacting badly in circumstances like this(surface change, first round, playing troubled but experienced and capable player, after unexpected loss etc.)

hey bb66,
im not watching much tennis recently but very interested in young players, could you break through his game here little bit,its very good thread imo to follow player and u can get some insight on his mentality from ur reports but it would be even better if u get into his game he plays in general and how he develops what u noticed he is improving etc as you obviously watching his matches, would be very good thread ![]() |

yeah i might exaggerated with 50-50 but mahut had some kind of revival last season and as i checked odds wise he was respected on clay bit more as he was in this match against young player( 3.5?) and with circumstances i mentioned.thiem seems solid on clay results wise and might choked little bit but still faced very experienced player who have weapons, making him difficult opponent
By:
would have been 50-50 maybe on hard, but not on clay
most of the characteristics of Thiem are scattered in this thread, good serve and hard groundstrokes, single handed bh (down the line his signature shot), strong mentality, likes big stages, in previous years preferred clay, but his game also suits hc, had fitness issues in his junior years, which he probably has overcome now |

Barca qualies seeded 1, 1st rd Steven Diez (Can, #211)
By:
6-3, 6-3, not much to say about that, 2nd rd Fucsovics
By:
7-5, 6-3, not very convincing though coming from a break down in set 1 and twice in set 2 serving 2 dfs in each set, but finally delivering when it mattered. Seems his form has dropped a bit recently.
By:
1 of the tougher Q-slots drawn with Sexynek, 2nd rd would be Granollers, then to meet Fognini, I think he will be dog
By:
4 positions up in ranking though dropping 3 pts, he wasn't awarded 10 pts as other 1st rd losers in MC, seems there must be a special rule for WCs, does anybody know? 69th in race.
10 pts already assured for next week with Barca qualies, only 16 pts to defend till end of July should gie the opportunity of climbing further. with odds of 2.3x today for Thiem I see value on Stepanek |
By:
Step drifted to almost 1.9, what's going here?
By:
Must be something wrong with him, would've thought he would be near 1.5 normally
By:
Thiem winning set 1 6-4 by winning 5(!) pts on return

By:
Thiem winning 6-4,6-4
, took 1st set on a sloppy 1st Service game from Strep, and coming back from *1-4 in 2nd set, what will be odds vs Granollers? |
By:
Odds similar to yesterday morning, 2.3x vs low 1.7x
By:
what about todays match? how do you like his chances?
By:
he shortened a bit again, I can't judge where the value is
By:
took him at 2.4 earlier that day. hope he can make it. last year he cost me a lot of money when I hammered one of his opponents.. time for him to work it back ;)
By:
nah.. not looking good... he's a mug today
By:
turned it around. nice win

a break loaded match, where Thiem gave away a leading break twice in set 1 and once in set 2, finally he won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2after saving 4 bps and avoided getting behind, then probably benefitted on an injury of Granollers, at least he took mto.
After 4 matches in 4 days now 1 day break before playing Fognini or Giraldo, 55 pts at least will lead to a new high in WRL |
By:
Giraldo next, will Thiem be fav?
By:
Probably
By:
opened 1.9x, now over 2.1
By:
eh... what kind of choke is that today? 3rd set 5-3 up to 5-6 ???
By:
broken to love serving for the match really isn't what was his style during last months, I'll report about his explanation here
By:
no insights given by Thiem
![]() nonetheless 55 pts should lift him within top 70 next week |
By:
new ranking 70 (thereby overtaking Vesely, who was born same year some weeks earlier), 52nd in race
By:
Madrid qualies rd 1 L Mayer, not an easy Task as he showed today vs Berdych, final rd would be Stakhovsky or Matosevic
By:
SP 1.6x, 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-4, Matosevic should be easier
By:
6-4, 6-4 without facing a bp, already 35 pts more in the bag for another career high ranking
By:
1st rd Tursunov, then Wawa waiting
By:
Thiem will underestimate Tursunov based on his last match and Tursunov will play solid enough to get the win
By:
Thiem still on a learning curve, hopefully will avoid mistakes he made vs Mahut and Giraldo
By:
6-4, 6-2 never in danger, now next chance to challenge a top 10 player
will approach top 60 in ranking next week and still room for improvement as only 16 pts will drop off till after RG |
By:
due to Melzer's 6 months injury break Thiem will become Austria's best ranked player next week.
By:
3rd time playing a top 10 man and every time winning a set
