Bottom line is, the biggest variable is Murrays mental state. He may crumble with the pressure of 5 finals etc or rise to the occasion with the new attitute that Lendl has tried to install. None of us have any idea of how that ellement will play out. Even then, if ND plays to his best, he is just a better player anyway. IMHO odds are about right but lets see how Murray starts. If the usual body language kicks in then its ND all the way.

Patb, We know from the Aussie semi-final this year that Murray could handle the pressure. From 2 sets to 1 ahead, he then found himself 2-5 down in the 5th, but had the mental strength to come back to 5-5. He did lose in the end, but not because of a lack of mental toughness. In that regard, Murray is one of the best out there. Having said that, Djokovic is fast becoming the hard court king, certainly so far as the majors are concerned. I would be thrilled by a Murray victory, but Novak may be just too good for him tonight.

Djokovic just lost a set 6-0 the other week, this guy is not a tennis god.
|
|
By:
fair point but you are comparing how he handles a GS semi final to a GS final. The mental pressures are far greater, so close and yet so far .
Understand what you are saying about "one of the best out there" but GS finals are where it really matters and I (and the market) are not convinced. |
|
By:
Market only looking at the results. 0-4 for Murray. Need to look beyond the numbers to find the value, and its clearly on Murray here.
|
|
By:
sorry, jut to add, if you look at the quality of tennis with these 2 guys over the last few weeks, they are very close IMHO, so the 1.4 on ND is clearly related to how well we know he handles the BIG occasions.

|
By:
Djokovic not tearing it up himself lately in BIG occasions. Lost French Open final, lost semi final Wimbledon, lost semi final Olympics, lost bronze Olympics. Lost in final in his final hardcourt tourney before US Open.
|
|
By:
sorry for thread drift but I am not convinced that the players percieve the Olympics in the same way as they do a GS. Murray would certainly swap and do you think ND would rather have a Gold metal in his cabinet or a GS title? It certainly is an intriguing final, and on at a decent time, cant wait.

By:
would djoko swap the davis cup for one of his slams
i don't think he would |
|
By:
Pretty sure a flake like Federer playing for a criminal haven like Switzerland may not care but for Serbians I'm pretty sure the Olympics were important.

i mean winning another slam

I expected Joker to be in the 1.50s here. Tempted to lay, at least to begin with.

Agree on Murray more likely to win than 3.1 - 3.3 and agree on Switzerlands richdom to consist of criminals money

Djokovic from Monaco

Among the top players, Olympic gold is considered the 5th Slam - this is why Federer was so desperate to win it... it must eat him up that his great rival Nadal took gold in 2008, & thus has the full set.
Seems many on this tennis forum have to find a way to oppose Murray at all costs (hovering over their keyboards in hope they can start 'Mugray' threads) but the facts this year are, he's clearly improved under Lendl - I think this is obvious to anyone who has watched him closely over the last 4/5 years. And he has had a much tougher draw at this US Open which puts him in a better place ahead of this final - tough scraps vs Lopez, Cilic, dropping 1st set against Berdych... laughable that those opposing him suggest he was lucky in these games & should have been beaten. Nothing to do with luck, he found a way to win. |
