How's the accountancy world treating you Nigel?
By:
Not that I want to crow too much but I hope some people took my advice about Alistair Brownlee. He was out at 740 a few days ago and traded 8.2 today
By:
Murray still wins this but a concerted campaign from Brownlee might have traction - personally think it flash in the pan-eque - similar to Skelton
By:
Murray/Trott/Brownlee - feels about right to me. With Scottish/Tennis vote taking Murray over the line. Trott getting the huge cycling vote and Brownlee the rest.
By:
Stop liking my Murray huge value at 1.5 tweets you sods ;-)
By:
We don't always get everything right - if we did we wouldn't be here ;-)
By:
Really clear pattern forming here every time Murray disappoints - price rolls out, a ramper pushes someone else in then murray starts getting momentum back in again. As I've said already winning Wimbledon is the crown jewels - exposure counts for so much in this market.

Farah getting himself lots of attention as well : https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/sep/19/mo-farah-named-fancy-bears-leak

By:
Farah comes out fine from the Fancy Bears - I feared the worse but it's nothing. I really think he will get a massive push. But now Brownlee will have more than just the Yorkshire vote. Did anyone see the end of Channel four news? they packaged him with the Hollies' 'He ain't heavy, He's my brother' it's a good pointer to how it will be shown on the night

good interview here

Comes out fine?? it comes at the worst possible time for his SPOTY hopes.
By:
bbc might need a bigger shortlist this year
the more people that get ramped, the better it is for andy gareth bale still an interesting runner imo, if he makes the list ..... |
By:
re: the Fancy bears it's not just Farah, we've already had Trott too. TUEs are not cheating and one of Farah's two was a morphine drip after he collapsed, I don't think many people would see that as an attempt to cheat at pulling off a double double. I know you like Murray's chances still but the past few weeks has seen a rather unsatisfactory fading out that has allowed the spotlight to move on to others - might be terminal for his chances.
By:
Not cheating? If your body is not good enough naturally, tough luck; life`s unfair, we`d all like to be Olympic champions, but our bodies weren`t up to it.Your legs are too short? Tough! Your twitch muscle reflex is too slow? Tough! Asthmatic? Tough! When did an asthmatic last beat you in a race? Yet winning Double Doubles by running 5 and 10k? Get real.
Blagging some quack into agreeing to say that you`ve got asthma so as to be able to take any sort of steroid and performance enhancer, most certainly is cheating. |
By:
I agree Tim, there should be no such thing as TUE's as they are a grey area open to systematic abuse and they are being abused. In Mo Farah's case this fancy bears leak serves him well as his two TUE exemptions are from some time ago and not relevant to his current results.
The biggest recent scandal for me was Lizzie Armitstead missing three tests in a 12 month period, then afterwards appealing the voracity of the first missed test...and winning on appeal! Unbelievable! If you miss a test, you should have until the next time you miss a test to lodge an appeal and no longer. Missing three tests and THEN appealing the first missed test was some kind of error is totally unacceptable. I may be a little naive in believing Lizzie is not actually a drugs cheat, but if you miss three drugs tests in a 12 month period you should be banned and in my book it would be for 5 years from all sporting competition. If I were making the rules, if you fail a mandatory drugs test you should receive a 2 year (not a day less) custodial sentence, be banned for life from any/all capacities in ALL sports and be required to pay a pay a fine of double your prize money for the last 5 years. Sponsors would also no doubt file a lawsuit for a return of their sponsorship. Presently there are not punitive enough deterrents. I cannot understand why Lance Armstrong having lied under oath is not this very day serving a 15yrs to life stretch having lost every penny he has ever earnt. Such failure to punish those found guilty serves only as to encourage others to also bypass the rules of fair play. |
By:
Loving the tough sentencing policy, Jim, but I`d include those who `missed` tests as being equally guilty, as with a `failure to produce` for drunk drivers. Rio Ferdinand, anyone?
By:
I don't disagree with that Tim, but I'm just feeling nice ;)

The Victorians would never allow the government to interfere with what a private individual consumed, sportsman or not. Contrary to popular fallacy they were both more laid back and had more than our superficial understanding of freedom.
By:
You either come down hard or leave it for people to do what they want. One or t'other and I'm not overly fussed which one. The in between world clearly doesn't work for anyone.
By:
That was am amazing moment by Alistair Brownlee.
By:
I'm not sure what's cheating more, taking performance enhancing drugs to get a better time in a race, or getting someone to carry you to the end of a race you could not finish on your own!

farah's price is the biggest joke ive ever seen, especially after recent events
his vote is proven glass no regional support at all AB yorkshire vote alone will swamp farah's total count |
By:
if KS can get 270,000 last year with massive help from yorkshire, the potential for AB is massive
that county is massively loyal and proud of there own what AB did tops anything KS did by x50, whose main core was rugby loving people AB will get the support of every sport going plus people who don't even like sport now compare that too farah proven glass vote and you might realise what a joke his price is |
By:
Farah is relying on the big muzzy push from the Beeb. I don't think it'll be enough this year.
By:
what AB did tops anything KS did by x50
...we will have to disagree on this one army - I think you have 'AB' and 'KS' the wrong way round! 'Sir Kev' is a legend amongst legends! |
By:
KS is a hero amongst every rugby league fan which is why he got so much support as everyone saw what he has done for and in the sport.
By:
A photoquote from Warrington Triathlon Club has gone super-viral (160k shares in a day). I'd guess that is probably the reason he is so short. Can't see much value at these odds but from here it looks like he could go close with Murray.
Assuming no other sporting hero's emerge in the next 3 months it would seem buying both Murray and Brownlee could be a risk free bet. |
By:
good spot its on there facebook page
By:
"what AB did tops anything KS did by x50" - do you really believe that army?
By:
yes, AB will be remembered in 2016 far more than most people worldwide and outside of sport
By:
seems people do not realise the impact of what he did, may of appeared to be something simple
just helping his brother, but the whole world is watching it |
By:
Whilst what Alistair Brownlee did was undoubtedly a kind act in assisting his physically spent and failing younger brother, the truth is he also helped his brother gain a result he was incapable of getting for himself and enabled him to finish runner-up in the World Championships. Whilst it seems that Alistair did not directly break any ITU rules, he certainly broke the rule and spirit of fair play - should he really be rewarded for that?
Either way army, your boy has done you proud in the betting market - good for you :) |
By:
umm i see your point JD about the spirit of fair play but he got himself out of that by saying it was the quickest way of getting johnny too the medics
also feel he'll get a level of support rarely seen in SPOTY by non sporty types, that don't give a poo about the politics of it all and don't know one sport from the next |
By:
He was about to be helped when his brother grabbed him and took him to the finish line in a distressed state, delaying medical help and endangering his brother, and cheating other athletes out of their correct finishing position.
By:
Mach is logical and correct. Most humans, and therefore most SPOTY viewers, aren't.
By:
I found it rather distressing to watch too. Dragging your semi conscious brother 800m could have killed him.
The public are clearly lapping it up though |

Brownlee starting the inevitable drift out - took a while I'll grant you. Meanwhile Andy has the chance to get very close to Djokovic - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/37535704
