...but Roy has NEVER been nominated for SPOTY
By:
im telling you lot now
if vardy gets nominated then he will at the very least be Top 3 |
By:
he'll definitely get nominated but he won't get in the top 3.
By:
theres enough football fans in the country to get Vardy over the line.
its a massive achievement to come up from lower league football and do what he has done Also bear this in mind.. even if he wins the Davis Cup murray has won it before.. hamilton has won before.. Jess Ennis has been around for years and never won. if Vardy keeps scoring the better his chances get His price is massive value and football is more popular than all other sports combined |
By:
You are also taking a gamble on him making the shortlist, bardo. Very competitive year.

he'll definitely get nominated but he won't get in the top 3. Id make him FAV if he makes the shortlist. Fairytale story and could well be setting the record right up until the awards show. Football fanbase dwarfs anything else |
By:
Dont understand people backing Fury unless the Pikeys come out in a group vote
The build up to the fight hardly caught the publics imagination and I reckon the PPV numbers were dreadful for a Brit in a heavyweight world title fight. |
By:
His price is massive value and football is more popular than all other sports combined
Voting is a little different these days and people are probably less aware of other sports, however, in the history of SPOTY there's been only 5 football winners, yet 3 figure skating winners, etc. |
By:
vardys feat is great but its more like a 147 in snooker rather than a world championship win
rooney broke long term goal scoring record and bale lead wales to euro champs , both surely more deserving of nomination, and england ladies had good world cup, ...more than one footballer nominated ? |
By:
vardy seems like a complete chav as well which doesn't help
By:
for absolute definite one of the ladies footballers will be on the list - lucy bronze maybe
By:
Too much success for someone from a team who didn't win to make it. Their hockey counterparts, for one, bettered them this year.
By:
Beeb will very likely want more than 1 woman on the shortlist. Steph Houghton possibly.
By:
being nibbled at...youre right...they need more women
By:
can't imagine there will be less than 3 women on the shortlist. caused a big song and dance when there were none 4 or 5 years ago
By:
Lizzie Armitstead, Hannah Cockroft both possibles.
By:
charlotte dujardin ...
poll on bbc today.. highlight of sporting weekend 25% vardy breaking record 29% tyson fury winning title 46% great britain winning davis cup |
By:
By:
Fury would be my choice but would they let an Irish/English gypsy win it? Cant have Ennis-Hill or Murray and although Hamilton won the World Championship again they dont tend to promote the previous years winner as much the year after, maybe Fury is the value hard to know....
By:
2 women imo
ennis hougton |
By:
No Vardy! Clearly finished the process a while back
By:
Fury
By:
armistead, bronze, ennis on list of 12
9 men , no disabled |

no vardy ..but they included Tyson Fury
![]() |
By:
vardy and rooney always had no chance whatsoever. there were so many outstanding genuine candidates this year without having to fill up the shortlist with ludicrous selections
By:
Don't underestimate the rugby league vote for sinfield now he has made the shortlist. If everyone who was at the grand final votes three or four times he has enough votes to win based on usual voting numbers. Quiet money coming in already.
By:
Sinfield without doubt the joker in the pack. Will need a concerted campaign probably but not difficult to imagine that happening.
By:
murray got 400k votes when he won it with the 2nd getting 65k,cant see murray recieving less this year, shu in imo

murray got 400k votes when he won it with the 2nd getting 65k,cant see murray recieving less this year, shu in imo The year he won SPOTY he won Wimbledon so I dont understand your logic regarding amount of votes. I agree hes strong fav though. Jessica Ennis-Hill Mo Farah Greg Rutherford Andy Murray Lewis Hamilton Lucy Bronze. Tyson Fury Chris Froome Lizzie Armitstead, Adam Peaty Max Whitlock Kevin Sinfield I could go to a swingers party with Adam Peaty, Lizzie Armitstead, Max Whitlock and Lucy Bronze and leave unable to sell the sotry to the papers because I couldnt recognise any of them ![]() Hepthalon, especially this years World Champs is a joke and as for Rutherford who makes a living jumping into a pit of sand! |
By:
Sinfield = Giggs
By:
Giggs won it it in a weak year. This year looks very strong. Multitude of World Champions, and Joe Root, world number one batsman who helped us beat the Aussies can't even make the shortlist.
By:
400,000 free votes isnt too hard to organise via social media
but it will be highly visible if it happens |
By:
This SPOTY is now turning into a joke. Being from a rugby city I can tell you that no one gives a feck about league so forget Sinfield although he does deserves credit. I just can't understand how Murray is so short? No Grand slam and the most hated sports person in England. BBC do tend to push the sport they show at the awards so expect to see next years winner being the World Bowls champ.
By:
In 2012 when Wiggo won it and was never going to lose it he got 30% of the vote, Jess got 24%. The fans love Jess and will get the housewives vote BIG TIME.
By:
Murray top in usually reliable telegraph poll then sinfield a clear second. Skybet offer 16/1 for that forecast but have been heavily restricted. Leeds rhinos have started a campaign too.
By:
I know it's the different code and was perhaps a Welsh drive too, but remember Leigh Halfpenny coming second, a couple of years back. Wouldn't rule out something in terms of Sinfield.

Murray top in usually reliable telegraph poll then sinfield a clear second. Skybet offer 16/1 for that forecast but have been heavily restricted. Leeds rhinos have started a campaign too. That forecast was initially 75-1, then 40-1, then 20-1. It was obvious Sinfield would be a springer if he made the shortlist. |
By:
Murray is well clear in this poll as well
http://www.eurosport.co.uk/all-sports/vote-who-will-win-sports-personality_sto5009592/story.shtml the SPOTY telegraph poll has been spot on for the last 4 or 5 years..last year it had hamilton first and Mcilroy 2nd.. so its a good barometer of public opinion as we have hats off to the OP for calling this..the timing of the Davis Cup win was perfect just a few weeks before the awards |
By:
murray dont wont it
sinfield gathering serious momentum |
