Norway has topped the ESCforum poll for at least 2 weeks follwed by Denmark in 2nd place while over at ESCstats they have just closed their poll and having 2829 voters Denmark is the winner with 8037 (fav of 197) with Norway 2nd with 6773 (fav of 145). The OGAE poll currently has Denamrk leading with Norway 2nd.

I guess it will be decided on who will give the better live performance on the night that will be the winner.

I am not one of these people who look at polls and after seeing that x country is top of that poll then bets on that x country to win the contest because it is top of that poll.

Having polls can give an impression and taste of what people like etc. but they do not accurately predict who the winner is as a song can sound fantastic in a studio when its being preformed and sung by pre recorded vocals and not sung live and also pre recorded vocals etc. are also used for videos and when the song is actually performed and sung live on the contest night it may not sound as fantastic as the studio version etc. that people already know and can even sound like a train wreck. Last year Italy sounded great on the preview video but when performed on the night it wasn't that great and didn't stand out to me.

The people that have voted for these polls are fans who have listened to all the songs and joe public may have only heard the song of their country and maybe a couple of others but not the rest and when joe public watches the songs being performed for the first time on contest night only having heard just a small number of songs beforehand they may not vote the same as the fans and will probably vote for something that they are impressed by whether the song or the show performance given by the song.

Previous winners of ESCstats polls are as follows:

2013 Denmark
2012 Sweden - Esc Winner
2011 Hungary
2010 Israel
2009 Norway - Esc Winner
2008 Sweden
2007 Cyprus
2006 Romania
2005 Greece - Esc Winner
2004 Belgium
2003 Spain
2002 Sweden
2001 Greece
2000 Estonia

The best thing you can say is she's very engaging when she smiles, but the pipes and the drums cover up the fact it's not a great song and she's not a great singer

Will it end in teardops or will it end with euphoria, I dont think it will stop the fans from voting for it if she can't sing.

it will stop the juries though

I totally agree with you FLL. We shall get to see from the semi-final performance if it is a winner or not and if it comes across as crap then the price should lengthen outwards, fingers crossed.

Win or lose I'm happy to have it red at the price anyway.

Jesus talk about the Empresses New Clothes.  Looks like Kate Winslett and sings like her too. Quiz question how many times does she sing "how many times"?  Answer is 16. Anyone taking sub 2/1 for this when it could be drawn 2 in the final and get lost in the mix is braver than me.

Quote from the email I received about the London Preview Party:

""The Danish girl gave us an acoustic rendition of her song which only served to highlight what a dull little thing it is. She can sing, but then they all can. She is not winning material by any means.""

Make of it what you think.

Interestingly I had the opposite view from that emailer (I didn't go, I just clicked Dicky’s link above). Shorn of the stupid flute and psychotic staring I actually preferred it, even though the club acoustics and/or recording were awful. It’s a catchy memorable tune unlike say Norway or Netherlands (even though I much prefer them).

That’s very far from saying there’s any value at present prices.

Italy and Netherlands are the big plays for this, chaps. Denmark won't win this. Neither Sweden nor Norway. Nor Ukraine or Russia. Nor Germany. Forget UK, Ireland. So what are we left with? Worth a few shekkels on Georgia I suppose (but it's so similar to Azer 2011)

When your 2 big plays currently sit at 25 and 21's respectively you don't need to put much on. Think the juries will look kindly on both efforts - anouk and mengoni - they both stand out from the herd for the right reasons.

Italy to win this for me with "L'essenziale". Everything fits for the win. Italy had a long absence from the competition didn't they; came 2nd in 2011 if i'm not mistaken.

Am I in an opinion of 1 or will you have big greens on Italy and the Dutch?

For the over 100/1 (J.I.C!!) will be having pennies on : Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Croatia, Lithuania, Spain and Moldova.

Since Betfair has been up what is the biggest priced winner on here for ESC?

It would be a victory for quality over the diasporas if either of those two won. What do you have against Norway?

To answer your questions - I have big greens on them and I don't know biggest price winner, relatively new to this.

Netherlands and Italy my 2 big greens too, noserviam.
I also like some of your longshots.
Not sure what the biggest price winner has been. I suspect it was one of those from the early 2000's. Does anyone know?
I've only followed really closely for the last 3 years.

..oh yes. Georgia a nice green too, of the fancied runners. Against, level or small green on most of the other 1st dozen or so in the market.
I've sold most of my Ukraine now.
I do think the African Lion king feel and black backing singers will harm it's chances with it's usual voting allies.

Yes, Finland was a big price. I think someone said last year one of Denmark, Estonia or Latvia were 100+

No, its Italy George, they can do what they want. I've heard they are thinking about cutting down the Ukraine Circus show entry to compensate Wink

Found it Dicky but its still 3mins 11 secs. I prefer it to the longer version. Still 11 seconds to cut though if they are sticklers which they might be.  And re Ukraine I have heard they are going to cut six inches off the giant...oor er missus.
