People respect Taylor. Generally not a nice person but his sheer grit, determination, longevity and ability to pull it out at crucial times makes him a legend. Whether darts is a sport is questionable to say the least, so casual votes are hard to come by. If Muzza wins a slam he surely won't win so obviously that has to be factored.

Sorry, I was for some stupid reason translating "free to air" as BBC. Still, ITV4 coverage was not massive exposure. I'd say the Darts World Championships on Sky had as equal audience as Tour de France, but that's only a guess.

The bottom line is Free to Air is always going to have much more exposure than Sky on a BBC SPOTY.

some money coming in for taylor - very bold
By:
he just drew with MVG (2nd best in the world by a mile) after MVG traded 1.02 in the Premier League. has balls of steel like very few other in sport
How much free to air TV exposure did Calzaghe or Zara Phillips have? also, if you're talking about people being hated, Ryan Giggs was hated by enough ABUs etc. Taylor will go mega low here, maybe not necessarily odds on but plenty of legs in it yet. you haven't missed the boat yet don't worry, you can reverse your 50/1 lay |

By:
PS. Having watched that game, the only reason MVG traded at 1.02 was his five(!) shots at a double to win it. MVG screwed up rather than Taylor having "balls of steel"

Broad at 500/1 is a fair shout. I love cricket and I love Ali Cook, but his price is ridiculously short. Ive been on Murray from the start, my stand out bet of the year imo when I got on him at 3/1. If he wins wimbledon then he wins spoty, if he wins the us or french then he prob wins too.
By:
yeah can't knock that rob. think any slam would be enough for him to win it. personally don't think he'll win any this year but value bet all the same
By:
Winning the US might not be enough because he'll never win his maiden slam again. Wimbledon is where it's at for Murray. The one benefit US Open has is that it will be fresher in the minds were he to win it.

King Cav off to a cracking start with his new team - 4 consecutive stage wins on the way to overall Tour of Qatar win. 6/4 for TDF Green jersey.

owen farrell looking worth a watch ....
although no welshmen got nominated in their grand slam year, maybe 6 nations is too early in the year for spoty |
By:
Rugby union players can only win in a World Cup year imo
Rugby league players can't win due to reasons outlined in earlier posts |
By:
Becky James 2 golds, 2 bronzes. Not really in the mix, but the first surprise performance of the year to date iirc. Four golds and she might have been a runner, not added to the list yet afaics. Think I saw 50s on oddschecker earlier.

Gareth Bale backed into 1.50 for PFA Player of the Year 2012/13 and on fire at the moment so could also win the EPL Golden Boot.

wales win rugby 6 nations with a welshman likely to be captain of the lions on aussie tour ?
The Red Army will then 'march' back to Brisbane for the 1st Test against the Qantas Wallabies at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday 22nd June. Twelve years ago the Lions won the 1st Test here 29-13 and the Red Army took over Brisbane ! 'Waltzing O'Driscoll' was added to the Tour Songs repetoire and 'Delilah' roared louder than 'Matilda' ! Hopes will be high as the Lions' head south to 'sports capital' Melbourne for their game against the Melbourne Rebels on Tuesday 25th June. So many sporting, historical & cultural venues here will keep the Red Army busy prior to another huge Test confrontation against the Qantas Wallabies at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 29th June. The third and final Lions' Test vs the Qantas Wallabies takes place in Sydney on Saturday 6th July. All Lions' fans will be hoping for a series win, whether it's clinched here - or earlier in Melbourne !! http://www.lionsrugby.com/2013tour/125th_anniversary.php#.UUmrahdShXE i guess sky have rights to this but it might be part of a summer of aussie bashing, and may just take hold and welsh people seem to love phone in votes !!! |

Murray should be drifting I think. Nadal was looking nearly back to his best and Indian Wells, leaving Murray with no chance at all (was only minimal before obv) of winning the French Open.
This also means another big contender for US Open and Wimbledon. Add to that JMDP's impressive form last week (beating Djokovic and Murray), I think Murray could easily go all year without a slam |

Gareth Bale has won 'The PFA Player of the Year 2013' AND 'The PFA Young Player of the Year 2013' becoming the third player to do the double (following Andy Gray in 1977 and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2007) and the fifth to win 'The PFA Player of the Year' twice ~ another Welsh left-footed winger SPOTY winner?

500 layer cant be happy
By:
Even Joe Root has been backed shorter than 500!
By:
Joe Root might yet be the value at 500 ~ today he scored 236 and has now scored 527 runs from 3 innings for Yorkshire in the County Championship
By:
Joe Root shouldn't be 500,000.
By:
Ronnie is now 1.26/1.27 for the World Snooker Championship ~ did anyone get on him for SPOTY?
By:
I was thinking Ronnie might be a good shout last week. If he wins this, it remains a quiet year, and he retires, I can see a groundswell of public adulation winning it for him. Not sure there's much value left in his price though now.
By:
Ronnie not a bad shout, but Sinfield even better....!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/22294380 Importantly: "The BBC will broadcast live TV and radio coverage of all England's group games, plus a quarter-final, a semi-final and the final of the tournament which starts on 26 October." Never underestimate the SPOTY pulling power of a major world cup tournament on home soil around SPOTY time of year and a tournament which bbc have the broadcasting rights to. Arise Sir Sinfield as he is known oop North. Don't say you weren't told. |
By:
You trying to lay Sinfield ColinLewis?!
For reasons outlined on previous posts he is shocking value - primarily as the shortlist will be announced before he has a chance to shine. |
By:
RL world final is 30 Nov.
SPOTY shortlist usually announced on the One Show last week in November (last Monday?). Plan is that England will have reached the final when shortlist announced. If that's the case he should deffo make shortlist. |
By:
looks like Sir Alex getting a bit of support

Nice little bonus for the layers

i always thought bbc said a coach couldnt win this, but hey ho
special circumstances ? anyway its suspended !! |

Betfair had Fergie in this market 2 or 3 years ago. I had laid a bit but then he was removed from the market and my bets void.

If, as I suspect it does get voided again on betfair, there will be a few arbers caught with their pants down unless the bookies can be persuaded to void their bets too. We will find out soon.

Did anyone lay others purely because they had just layed Ferguson. What a stuff up.
