It's Wimbledon Jim - everyone will be piling in at the prospect of lovely Laura winning it.She is actually only about 50/1 to win Wimbledon so higher than that for SPOTY looks reasonable to me. |
By:
Oh Andy I love you. You never fail to disappoint.
By:
The upside to laying Murray between 2 and 3 every year is enormous and the down side? well .... hasn't happened yet.
By:
A few years ago his price plummeted in to under 3 when he lead a 4th round Australian Open match against Nadal, which he went on to lose.I love him, do you hear me LOVE HIM!!
By:
Even if he does bounce back from this injury to win a grand slam, i'm so far in front on him it won't bother me too much. And that's a big if.

GOLD! Gold I tell ya!

david beckham anyone ?
By:
In a piss poor year yes, but I don't see him making the starting list, life time achievement award would fit better

By:

Injury Update
News - Tuesday, May 21 2013 After consultation with his team and medical specialists, Andy has reluctantly withdrawn from the French Open and will instead focus on preparation for the grass court season. Andy commented “It’s a really tough decision and I love playing in Paris, but after seeking medical advice, I am not fit to compete. Apologies to the organisers and thanks to everyone for the messages of support. Now my complete focus is on getting back on the court as soon as possible” |
By:
being injured probably increases his chances of winning spoty... he was never winning in france, and now his public see anything he does at wimbledon magnified as he has battled the injury as well as anything else..
anderson and broad rather spoiling it for each other.. 15 wickets between them.. but plenty of time there peterson hoping to be back for the aussies... rather murray like in coming back from injury magnifies anything he does but male cricket fans less likely impressed by comebacks than female tennis fans ... |

Got to be a slight concern that Muzza's withdrawl from the French means he won't be fully fit for Wimbledon, but if he does make it I don't see missing the French as a hindrance to his chances - he is often takes time out before majors anyway.
By:
see paddy have saf at 11/10 today
By:
If rafa moves up 1 more place ahead of fed in the rankings, Muz will have to go through him and then joker... big ask.
By:
Very fair point that rat - Muzza less likely to be seeded 2 for Wimbledon now.
His price for the tournament has drifted to 5.5. |
By:
...sorry to correct you poop, but if you are talking about Wimbledon the seedings will almost definitely be Djokovic, Federer, Murray, Nadal which means that Nadal and Murray will be in different halves of the draw.
By:
is federer considered easier than nadal at wimbledon these days ?
surely the seedings will give him the best chance, as will the order of play ? |
By:
Wiggins out of the TdF so if you happen to have a green to sphed that might be a lay on the win mkt and top 3 mkt.
By:
sphed?? You know what I mean

ive got one in my garden !

I mailed BF last week about what they plan do regarding Fergie as it seems to be in limbo and this was their response:
As it stands, there is nothing to indicate that Sir Alex Ferguson is eligible to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. Consequently, we removed him from the market after he was erroneously added. Should information come to light that the BBC intend on making him eligible this year, we will obviously have to consider reinstating all bets that were placed on him prior to being void. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries. |
By:
By:
Other way round imo
By:
yeah shirley, its the backer that want the bets on ice, imo
layer will be happy to crack on regardless, but the shadow hanging over the market is dreadful for all |
By:
By:
Betfair's stance is the correct one. Have had it confirmed by the BBC that the same rules of the competition will apply in 2013 as in previous years. Rules that state: ‘non-playing coaches or management are not eligible’.
Fergie will obviously get a lifetime achievement award. |
By:
whether he is eligible or not isn't really the problem for me
The problem is they havn't cancelled the bets completely, and at some future point they may re-instate bets |
By:
Boys, be careful out there:
Ted Brogan 08 May 13 12:03 Rules state "The Panel also had the right to amend the criteria for the main award (as well as the Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, Team of the Year and/or Coach of the Year - see below) should there be unanimous agreement amongst panel members to do so." So Fergie will defo get the nod http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/sports-personality/19997397 |
By:
For clarification, that 'So Fergie will defo get the nod' is a part of Ted Brogan's post. Personally, I haven't a clue.

Chris Froome has won the Criterium de Dauphine and has now won four of the five races he's entered this year. However, I still think he's the lay of the century, even if he were to win the Tour de France.
By:
Phil Taylor won the UK Open yesterday to add to his World Championships and World Cup wins this year. means he's won 3 out of 4 of what I'd call "proper" tournaments this year (Premier League being the one he didn't win, lost final to MVG)
By:
...highly unlikely imo that there will be both a snooker and darts shortlist representative this year as most people consider these 'games' rather than 'sports' and as Phil came second in SPOTY 2010 to AP McCoy, I see 'The Rocket' making the shortlist far more likely than 'The Power'.

if cavendish wins green jersey and continues his help for heroes stuff he must be in with a decent chance
of at least a nomination, and still seems very popular. help for heroes is a massive organisation to be in with |
By:
what do u guys reckon of Justin Rose? being matched at 5.5
By:
8 at coral
By:
i suppose thats one of the 10 nominations filled ....
By:
I think the Open (British) is the only competition that really registers in SPOTY.
Very likely nominee unless another Brit wins the Open but I'd be very surprised to see even Top 3 in SPOTY |
By:
Golfers tend to perform badly in this and as AM says, it's not The Open..... or The Masters, that also has a high profile.
The other 2 majors don't really register with most people. Having said that it looks a very weak year. |
