RL Final is 30 November - be amazed if the shortlist is not completed by then.

To be blunt RL is a very low profile sport - 66/1 a fair price if the final was a month earlier and England have won imho.

Rugby League is a minority Northern sport.

Most of the general public and more importantly the mass voters who decide this would struggle to name any of the England players.

If you walked up to 100 people in a Birmingham or Southern shopping arcade and showed them a picture of Sinfield you would struggle to find 3 who knew who he was.

Johnny Wilkinson was already known before Englands world cup victory due to the BBC coverage of the 5 nations which somehow attracts audiences of millions considering it is a rather retarded sport.

the bbc coverage made stars of darts players, snooker players and show jumpers

rugby league rather sold out to sky,

Great effort by Laura Robson which saw her backed in. See she would likely play Serena in the q/f if she makes it that far - easy Grin

Good shout re Laura JR - one of the few in the field that interests me at this stage.

Plan to wait for her to drift a bit after the AO to pick up some good prices before Wimbledon.

Any thoughts on the Muzza SPOTY price if he wins the Australian Open? Finding it hard to call maybe just sub evens?

2.6 to beat Djokovic in the final currently

2.66 for SPOTY got to be fairly poor given he hasn't actual won anything yet.

Then again, who's the competition...so no bet for me.

Maybe around Evens, AM? Muzza definitely over-priced to be Djoko in Oz Open final. He beat him at US Open & this win over Fed - first time ever he's beaten Fed in a Slam - tees him up a treat.

Not sure I fancy an even money bet that takes not far off a year to settle!

Just trying to predict Muzza's price, stu, should be win Oz Open
By:

Muzza at 2.6 to beat Djoko looks a decent bet.

If he loses don't think his SPOTY price can go much beyond 4.5 (his approx price for Wimbledon) Been trading his SPOTY price during the AO, but like Stu not keen to hold a big position all year and can't see much value elsewhere in the field.

murray should be no worse than 2.3 for the final, im having a big bet at 2.68 or whatever the disrespectful price is now.

Just taken a lump of Murray for SPOTY at 2.88 - stunned I could get that price to be honest.  Most HS bookies around 2.5.

IF he wins on Sunday he goes odds on without a doubt.  If not he drifts again but he has two other good chances to win a grand slam again and if he finishes runner up in all but the French Open he'll probably still win.

Coming third last year when he'd have won in a "normal year" which we have this year will bring the public out in force for him.

oh, and 1.5 on Top 3 looks good value as well but only a few quid there.

but the joker is in top form too.  Going to be a cracker.  Can't call it but agree Murray worth a few quid.  Should be more like 1.75/2.33

He might be a big price to lay, but if Murray wins it, Taylor can be laid out to 1000s for me. IMHO, he was never going to win it anyway, but he has less than no chance once someone else takes quantifiable front running.

Good point.  Happy to lay up to 100.

Murray didn't choke.  The joker just raised his game enormously.

He will get to another final and what did we have on this one?  Win mkt 3.6 into 2.3 & top 3 2.02 into sub 1.5.

Not a Rylan market yet, that was excited Brush, but nevertheless I would not recommend carrying a big red on Murray.

Indeed.  Reckon he'll finally break the British wait and win Wimbledon - that will see him 1.4 or less immediately.

What's gambling, expecting him to be 1.4 after Wimbledon IF he wins? eh?  I haven't taken a position at all.  Currently Green on Murray, a couple of reds on Taylor/Wiggins rest flat.

Probably right, would be a cracking lay mind as prices bound to get slightly edgy at some point later.

In Britain I'd put winning Wimbledon only behind winning the football WC in perceived sporting achievement. It would be a coronation in December.

Nigel,

You did also say Reckon he'll finally break the British wait and win Wimbledon

Anyhow I was only pulling your leg and wasn't asking you for a breakdown of your market position. Plain

well yeah, I'm sure we all have personal views on outcomes - doesn't mean I will also put money on it.  I'm in 100% agreement with you that it becomes gambling. ;-)
