Moloney in The Sun

X FACTOR hopeful Chris Maloney has been slammed for misleading judges.

The singer who claimed to be crippled with nerves on Saturday’s show, has a secret past as CRUISE SHIP warbler.

His former boss Mollie Daley, who was a judge on Sky One’s Showboaters, said she hired Chris in 2000 to sing to thousands on First Choice’s Bolero cruise ship.

Mollie was stunned when on the show Gary Barlow asked Chris: “How the hell have you kept that voice hidden till now?” Chris replied: “I’ve never put myself out there like this before. Today I’ve just bitten the bullet.”

Mollie, who manages Peel Entertainment which provides show teams for cruise ships, said: “I was astonished when I listened to all these claims by Chris to Gary Barlow that no one had given him a chance.

“That was so disingenuous of him. He came to us in 2000 after spotting our advert in The Stage. He had a big voice which was a bit rough around the edges, but we knew we had to have him. And we gave him months of vocal coaching. It’s strange that he says he was so nervous, because he didn’t show a hint of nerves when he was on stage with us.

“In fact he became so popular he ended up recording an album that we sold on board.”

Chris, 34, told TV Biz: “I’ve worked as a cruise ship singer and did bingo calling and family quizzes years ago, but only for a few hundred people. It was nothing like X Factor. It’s all new to me.”

Meanwhile Gary has banned X Factor wannabes from using mobiles — to stop them being distracted by gossip about them on Twitter.

Think tptb will really want to keep their options open, spoty would muller the x factor in a head to head this year and effectively kill the brand. Have no idea what they will do but they desperately need to avoid that clash. If the beeb have any sense they will make it a 4hour programme a massive audience and a record vote this year methinks.

poor Rebecca Sad

Rebecca Ferguson has released a pre-emptive statement in response to a news story due to be published in the press this week.

The singer tweeted earlier today that she was "not well" for a long time and that she has "had to grow tougher skin", but insisted that now she has "never felt better".

The contents of the upcoming article are as yet unknown.

X Factor bosses are reportedly working hard on freshening the format of future episodes of the ITV show, in a bid to win back their lost viewers.

The series is five episodes into it’s 2012 run and ratings have been less than impressive, especially when compared to last year’s figures. While the same installments in 2011 were attracting around ten million viewers on their first airing, in 2012 figures are peaking at around 8 million or slightly above.

Insiders report that in order to combat the shrinking fan base, producers are planning some changes to the bootcamp episodes and later live shows, as they try to entice their missing 3 million viewers back to the series.

“Admittedly the show did get off to a slow start this year,” a supposed insider told Star magazine, adding:

“Right now we’re focusing on the bootcamp episodes and making the forthcoming live shows as amazing as possible.”

Sources claim that bosses think the Olympics and it’s success has dented the ITV offering in recent weeks but they don’t think things are beyond saving just yet and continued:

“We believe that after the Olympics, interested has waned in TV talent shows, but we are postitive there’s plenty of life in the show yet.”

Simon Cowell has confirmed that he will return to the show in some form or another, whether that be flying back to rejoin the panel one weekend or simply appearing via a satellite link up down the line.

Bigwigs think his comeback will be a big draw for viewers and the insider added:

“Of course, it’ll certainly help to have Simon back on board. He’s the original Mr Nasty and still one of TV’s main draws.”

This weekend will see the last of this year’s X Factor audition shows being aired, after which we move into bootcamp and then the judges houses stage.

The live shows will launch in October, with reports suggesting that the judges will all only bring three acts forward to the final rounds, ,eaning that this eyar will see a final 12 and not 16 acts taking to the stage.

unrtv stuff

This weekend’s Xtra Factor looks set to be packed full formerly famous talent show contestants.

We have already reported that former Big Brother star Stephanie McMichael – who also took part in Pop Stars: The Rivals alongside former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole – will be seen auditioning as part of girl group ‘Poisonous Twin’ and we can also reveal that former Pop Idol finalist Hayley Evetts will also be featured on the ITV2 show.

Hayley first shot to fame when she appeared on Popstars, the TV show that launched Hear’say and Liberty X. After failing to make either of the groups she returned and auditioned for Pop Idol. She made the final 10 along with Will Young, Gareth Gates and Darius Danesh, eventually coming 5th.

Evetts went on to try and forge a career in the showbiz and music industry and in 2003 she landed the role of Sandy in Grease The Musical along with Robiie Williams’ pal Jonathan Wilkes who played Danny. In 2011 she independently released a single, ‘Waste My Time’, though it failed to chart in the top 40. She also tried out for the X Factor back in 2007 but failed to make it past bootcamp.

There has been a LOT of reality TV crossover this year, with Lorna Bliss moving from Britain’s Got Talent to The X Factor and Louis Smith moving from The X Factor to Strictly Come Dancing and on tomorrow night’s episode of the ITV talent show the pattern will continue.

Stephanie McMichael was last seen on Big Brother in 2008, when she resided in the famous house as a fully fledged housemate and also once appeared on ITV’s Pop Stars: The Rivals alongside former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole.

Tomorrow night she will be seen making yet another attempt at finding fame, as she tries out for The X Factor as part of female duo Poisonous Twin.

Stephanie was only 13 years old when she appeared on Popstars and later auditioned for Cheryl Cole back in 2010, as part of girl group LiverBirds.

This weekend Steph’s tryout with her pal and new bandmate Sophie Houghton will air on ITV2′s Xtra Factor, as the pair are featured trying their best to impress Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh.

It seems that the ladies enjoyed their extra filming for the spinoff show too as they tweeted this week, writing:

‘Yeah Caroline is soooo nice!! we really liked her.. she’s a cool girl! #xtra #TheXFactor’

They added:

‘the competition was SO tough they were all so so good!! x’

Stephanie later tweeted from her personal account saying:

‘Hey guys can u please all follow @poisonoustwin and look out for them on #TheXFactor !!!’

We can’t tell you too much about their audition, but we can reveal that they’re not half bad and that the judges are big fans of the girls, after hearing them perform
