The X Factor 2012 judges’ houses locations and helpers have been revealed this morning.

According to the Daily Star Sunday, new judge Nicole Scherzinger will jet out to Dubai with US rapper Ne-Yo to whittle down her acts.

Gary Barlow is set to stay in London and will be joined with Robbie Williams to decide which acts in his category make the live shows.

Louis Walsh will join forces with Sharon Osbourne in Las Vegas while Tulisa Contostavlos will visit St Lucia with UK star Tinie Tempah.

This year twelve acts will make it through to the final live shows, which are due to start in October.

A source told the tabloid newspaper today: “Producers really wanted to up the ante this year with the destinations.

“Tulisa is thrilled to be going to the Caribbean, while Louis still can’t believe he’s off to Vegas. In eight previous years the furthest he has ever been is Barcelona.”

The supposed insider added: “Gary was originally planning to be in Mallorca but that’s been changed to London so he can be close to his wife Dawn after the death of their baby Poppy.”

Caught the end of them talking about lst night's XF on 5Live.  Mainly talking about Lucy - said a cross between Victoria Wood and Kate Nash on there, mentioning Victoria Wood's "Let's Do It" song.  Got the Wood thing right away but the phrasing and the Northerness was more along the lines of Alex Turner for me "a Mecca dobber or a betting pencil" type stuff.

5Live peeps seemed to think she would have been better going for BGT, that she may struggle with covers and the theme weeks, and may be a bit of a one-trick pony.

Also talk about the tired formula for the show, not great judges atm, Nicole doesn't bring anything to the table, etc.

Interesting:-

The X Factor 2012 live shows will follow the auditions and allow the contestants to sing their own songs, it has been revealed.

The Daily Star Sunday report today that the live finals will be revamped, allowing the acts to sing their own tracks as well as play their own instruments.

It will no doubt mean that there will be an end to theme weeks, with past themes including the likes of ‘Lady GaGa & Queen week’ and ‘Take That & Wham’ requiring contestants to sing certain covers.

The X Factor 2012 auditions have already seen plenty of original performances.

The opening audition show saw 16-year-old Ella Henderson performing an emotional track for the panel in memory of her late grandad.

And last night viewers watched as 20-year-old Lucy Spraggan wowed the judges with her more upbeat and comedic take on drunken nights out.

The song, which Lucy had previously released for download, has already shot itself into the iTunes Top 40 less than 24 hours after the show aired.

Usual stuff in the press.

James wants to put his rough past when he was getting into trouble behind him.

Rylan wants to get back at the school bullies who targetted him for being fat, ginger and gay.  Was badly assaulted on occasions, etc.

Be interesting to see what replaces theme nights.  Most will do covers and the GBP like the familiarity of that. It will be the best cover act that wins.

The X Factor isn’t Rylan’s first time on the telly, having previously appeared in a vareity of reality shows including Sky 1′s Ibiza Uncovered and Sky Living’s Signed By Katie Price.

And Rylan claimed that Katie would be supporting him all the way if he made it through to the live shows.

Yes, someone's original song (and probably their best song) with all the script, editing and presentation you get on the audition shows, the back story and the crowd reactions is very different to someone performing their own song during the lives - as we have seen on BGT before.

One might suggest the impact has been lost. Altho the option is there for heavy production on xf. I doubt if it will be 'original' music wot won it.

The X Factor 2012 ratings saw a slight week-on-week climb of around 200,000 viewers.

Last year’s launch show was the least watched since 2006, with an average of 8.1 million tuning in and a further 600,000 watching on ITV1+1.

Last night’s second audition show was watched by an average of 8.4 million, climbing to 8.9 million with viewers on ITV1+1.

Despite the rise week-on-week the figures are still down well over a million viewers on last year’s series.

The show peaked with an impressive 11 million viewers – a 46% share – as the likes of Lucy Spraggan auditioned for the panel.

The X Factor was easily the most watched show of the day, but despite that BBC One still beat ITV1 with an all day share of 20% to ITV1′s 15%.

With Lucy's single at 4 in the indie singles chart, and an album at 18, it will be interesting to see how this pans out regards the rest of the show.

With JH being filmed around now, does it make it easier for them to put her through or is there an issue because it is almost like "she has made it" already?

And how does that sit with the viewers/voters should she make the lives when she is racking up these record sales aleady?

Something a little bit new and different to think about from both sides of the coin.

Definitely a concern for anyone who has backed her Plain.

I had the same thoughts going through my head yesterday. Will the prods be happy to have a contestant who has a guaranteed fan base,or will they consider it an embarrassment as the premise of the show is to find someone unknown  and turn them into a star.

X Factor star Lucy Spraggan has said she hopes that the show will help her to get more girls!

Lucy, who has been out about her sexuality since the age of 14, joked: “I can imagine the X Factor does wonders for your love life.”

She added: “And girls do love girls with guitars.”

The self confessed boozy wild child also revealed she wants to have fun on the show… but promised that she won’t get carried away like Frankie Cocozza!

The 20-year-old, who is currently in the Top 5 in the charts with her own song Last Night, insisted she could “handle her beer”, despite her songs seeming to indicate otherwise!

Asked what her phrase “beer fear” meant, Lucy said: “It’s when you wake up, look around the room and say to yourself ‘where the bejeezus am I?’”

The singer-songwriter suggested: “People take The X Factor too seriously.

“I want to have fun and show what I can do.”

"core audience of teenage girls" !!

Olympian Tom Daley has reportedly signed up to help out this year’s X Factor hopefuls.

According to The Sun, the bronze medal diver could be seen helping out the acts by coaching them to get fit in the gym.

Because apparently that’s relevant to the music talent show.

But the 18-year-old is said to be really after a presenting role, after previously admitted he’d love a move into telly.

“All the athletes are keen to be involved. But Tom is keenest by far and he makes a really good match for X Factor’s core audience of teenage girls,” a source told the tabloid today.

The insider explained: “Tom is great on the telly and he’d really like to get involved in all the live shows in some way. Ideas being kicked about at the moment include making him a roving reporter.

“He could take the contestants out and about to film or to be their personal trainer. He’s keen to work with Dermot. He reckons he’s the best in the business.”

However despite The Sun‘s claims, Olympians linked with the show have denied any such talks have taken place.

Gold medal cyclist Bradley Wiggins seemed rather unimpressed with the reports.

He said: “Let’s not talk about The X Factor. Compared to the Olympics, everywhere you went the country was on a high, and as athletes it was phenomenal to see that, then you see X Factor and it’s like, ‘Oh God, everyone’s got to put up with that all winter now’.”

Meanwhile track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy took to Twitter recently to claim: “Some amusing stories in press about me being a mentor on X Factor. That’s the first I’ve heard about it.”

Mo also named in The Sun article.

So not their own songs on Olympic week?

X Factor’s Olympics Week, when Team GB stars give advice to wannabes, is expected to come when the popular live finals stage of the series starts.

Contestants will sing Olympics-themed songs like Spandau Ballet’s Gold and Tina Turner’s Simply The Best.

Posted this in the wrong thread really -

Rather like BB being won in the house, XF is won during the lives. I don't think many people will worry about previous experience.
As for itunes, we've seen on AI that it's a very poor indicator. The majority of those who vote aren't the types to use itunes.
They buy their music with their weekly shopping at Asda

Indeed, although I wonder whether people perceived to have already made it big/now have a career ahead of them do suffer votes wise - perhaps more so in BGT with the likes of Susan Boyle, J&C, etc.

This time last year we hadn't even seen anything of the eventual winners.  Maybe that's the way to go?  Hard to think we're going to see absolutely everyone with possibly only three more audition shows to go.  They're only showing about half a dozen people on the shows with a couple of them being rubbish acts too.

Lucy's music removed from itunes?

When: 28 Aug 12 08:35
UPDATED: On Saturday night, sales of Lucy Spraggan's debut album rocketed after she performed her own song on X-Factor. Today, it is no longer available on iTunes.

[Update: Barely an hour after we posted this story, Spraggan's album returned to iTunes (although you could only buy it as individual tracks in the UK - not as one package). It has since been taken down again. It is still available on Amazon.]

Spraggan's Top Room At The Zoo LP reached No.3 on the iTunes UK album chart as a result of her performance, which saw her play her own composition Last Night (Beer Fear).

Louis Walsh said the song, which reached No.2 on the iTunes track chart, "could be a No.1 record" - an opinion backed up by Gary Barlow.

Top Room At The Zoo, recorded and independently released in 2011, contains Last Night amongst its 11 tracks. It is still available on Amazon and Spotify.

Sheffield artist Spraggan said on her Facebook page yesterday: "Oh dear :( the album is coming offline guys, in preparation for some things coming up... Not my call to make, get it while you can!"

She commented on Twitter earlier today: "My album will be removed in the next 48 hours my friends. Thank you so much again."

Top Room At The Zoo entered Sunday's Official Artist Album Chart at No.127, selling 1,056 copies in the week - including purchases from Saturday night.

According to Official Charts Company data, the LP has now sold 1,219 copies in its lifetime.

Spraggan is a former runner-up of the Urban, Pop & Acoustic category of Live and Unsigned, and has supported Joan Armatrading.

The 2012 series of X Factor allows artists represented by professional management onto the show for the first time, with contestants welcome to audition by playing their own songs.

The "not my call to make" comment is the key here.

Speculation has begun that Lucy Spraggan has made it through to the judges houses stage on the X Factor, after her single ‘Last Night’ was removed from iTunes this evening.

The 20 year old singer from Sheffield impressed the judging panel with her self penned track and on the most recent episode of the show the judges were seen heaping praise on the talented performer, after the audience erupted in applause and gave her a standing ovation.

Gary Barlow raved:

“I loved your song, what a fantastic songwriter you are!”

We reported earlier today that the song – which was released as a single in 2011 – had made it into the iTunes top 10 and by this afternoon it was sitting in the number two spot.

However, a few hours ago the track was removed from the online retailer and she revealed on Twitter that her previously released album would also be disappearing.

After promoting her album for the last few days on the micro blogging website, Lucy tweeted her new fans saying:

‘My album will be removed in the next 48 hours my friends. Thank you so much again.’

The removal has caused fans of the show to speculate that Lucy must have made it through to judges houses and be well on her way to the live shows.

If she did make it through bootcamp, Lucy will be heading to St Lucia, where panelist Tulisa Contostavlos will be whittling down the last few girls, until she chooses four for the live stages.

The former N Dubz singer will be assisted in her choices by rapper and singer Tinie Tempah.

However, if Lucy has made it that far, X Factor bosses are being very understanding about allowing her to continue with her local gigs. Normally stars who make it through bootcamp are forced to stop performing at anywhere other than ITV sanctioned venues, but Lucy is busier than ever and tweeted this week saying:

‘Friday 31st Aug, The Viaduct Showbar, Lower Brigate, Leeds LS1 3JR. I’ll be on stage at 9.30pm!!’

‘Ok, so Sheffield gig, Thurs 30th Aug, 9.30pm. Town centre, just waiting for confirmation of venue! Eeeee.’

‘Also I’ll be playing in The Railway, Whaley Bridge in my mates pub on Wednesday! (It’s in Derbyshire…) 9pm

X Factor 2012: Kye Sones was 'previously signed to Sony Music'

August 28, 2012 01:43 by Josh Darvill

X Factor 2012 hopeful Kye Sones was previously signed to Sony Music, it has been reported.

The 30-year-old was a part of band Diagram Of The Heart, who were formed in 2009 and signed up by the music label.

But despite the record company financing an album, single and even a music video, Kye insisted he still needed a “lucky break”.

He told The Sun: “I need a lucky break basically. I’ve played every single toilet club up and down the country.”

However Kye’s previous album included a self-penned track which attacked reality shows like The X Factor.

He said at the time of its release three years ago: “Everyone wants to be famous with going on X Factor and going on Big Brother, and I don’t think people know the darker side of it that comes with it, like Britney Spears shaving all her hair off and people losing their minds.”

A spokesperson for The X Factor commented that this year’s show was open to acts from both a professional and amateur past, and insisted everyone was treated fairly regardless of their background.

They said: “People with raw talent all stand the same chance in the competition, whether they have been in the business before or not.

“The level of talent is extremely high again this year – with people from all walks of life entering the competition.

“Kye will still need to be mentored and developed if he gets through to the live stages.”

Sofabet article is an excellent summary I think.

Is XF really going to become a showcase for new 'cutting edge' independent talent? Are the GBP going to follow this like lemmings? Is this what the advertisers signed up for?

I just don't see who benefits here. Frankly perhaps this is just an excuse for there to even less rules than before and make it just that little bit easier for the producers to pick who they want. Let's not forget XF is still (just about) the biggest TV event there is. It got to this position by having wannbees murder Whitney covers as entertainment on Saturday primetime, not by 'discovering' artists more at home at a late night music show on C4.

the x-factor core audience is as thick as sh1t, they will watch, and never understand what levers are being pulled in the back ground, the advertisers don't care as long as the viewing numbers are high and the x-factor machine do a good job of pretending it's not bent. and the rest of us will watch because it's there, A few more years in the format yet me thinks.

snippet from a Flack interview I found:-

"I know it's said every series, but I think without a doubt this is the best year so far.  The standard is very, very high and there are some really original people who have made it through.

"There's one girl who is 32.  I'm not going to say her name, but she's so hot, she's so talented and she made me cry on her first audition.  I think she's the one to look out for.

"And there are a lot of boybands this year.  There's one group who reminds me of Boyz II Men, really spot on with their harmonies, and we've never had a group like that before."
