If any song is going to run away with it imo then its the one that wins the jury vote because potentially it could also sweep the televote. Sweden imo won't win the jury vote so won't be running away with anything Cool

but has no appeal at all for the average viewer

George I wouldn't write off Hero like that. But I guess my point was about the group-hysteria of the fansites.

Bexley if her voice is on form at the jury vote why couldn't Euphoria sweep the jury vote? It is one of the best voices this year.

Sweden price is farcical on here. I'd happily take say, 1 to 3 on it will trade higher in running on the night but then not everyone has Betfair accounts or the inclination to do so. I will be Cool

Hero was a great song - she did look a bit scary, and was actually very attractive when she won in 1999.

LOL . She does look rather cat like.
I didn't really follow the show that closely in those days and I just heard it for the 1st time just now.
Vocal wasn't great and it's the type of song you'd only ever hear in a provincial gay nightclub.
I think that's a line by Dan from sofabets.

I was too busy listening to Laka from Bosnia that year to take much notice of any other song.
If I had heard Sweden I certainly wouldn't have been backing it.

Because Henry my issue isn't with her voice or her performance skills as such its the type of song itself. Its not impossible she could top it like Lena did but I think its more likely a ballad type that wil claim top spot or god forbid Italy

And I'd agree with Henry about Euphoria. Good song. Tick. Good vocal. Tick. Very well staged. Tick. Commercial. Tick.

Aren't those the 4 criteria the juries are meant to vote on?
By:

and that was 4 ticks for Italy from you last year leaves also I take it?
By:

and you wouldn't be giving Spain 4 ticks this year?

I don't think any song ticked all 4 boxes last year.

Italy would have ticked 3.

Lena would have ticked the song box 4 fold and the commercial box 4 fold. Might have struggled for many with the vocal box and performance one, but as a whole package it worked brillaintly for me.

Like Italy last year? Wink

I think Loreen is very charismatic.  I do have a concern that there is an innate racism in many east europeans that might just reject Loreen with her north african background and the black guy who is feeling up what little cleavage she has. If it was USA XF the good ol' boys would be giving him a good whuppin'.

Spain ticks 2. We don't know about the staging, but unlike some I find her performance compelling and not constipated.
It would struggle in terms of the commerical box, but not as much as Italy from last year

So best vocalist - no
Quality and oiriginality - 90's trance copy so no
act and overall impression - pretty decent

Just another way of looking at it. hard to see it #1 that way Cool

From what we've heard i think it's a superb vocal for that type of song.

None of the songs are truly original. Euphoria is more original than most.

Overall impression - excellent

I've also seen a statement saying possible commercial success should be part of the juries criteria too and it's #1 there
By:

Ok leaves yet again we have to agree to disagree. You see nothing in Iceland, I see nothing in Sweden that justifies this type of price. I most certainly don't see it topping the jury vote
By:
George Bailey
When: 17 Apr 12 20:28
I also read somewhere that commerciality was a factor and if so Sweden hacks up on that.  Still No 1 in sweden and in the charts in the rest of scandanavia. Got suckered into a few more quid on jedward when I read they were in some eastern charts but then read it takes literally 14 downloads to get in them.

I am still completely baffled as to how Lithuania topped it in the semi last year. May have been neighbours not checked that.  Some juries will follow the rules others won't. I think spain will do ok with the juries and so will Iceland though it won't connect with the viewers.....imo Wink

All I was really saying in my post tha Henry picked up on, is that it's the one song for me that has the pornetial to runaway with it.
ofc eastern europe might be offended by the black guys big bum and not vote for it and the juries might not fancy it either.

However I believe the juries are more likely to rate it highly than not and a black dancer doesn't concern me too with regards the eatern vote. Whereas a black singer would, as we saw with haba haba last year which recieved sod all from the east

and all I was saying was that it won't top the juty vote so it can't run away with it.

Do you realistically believe it can fail to win the jury vote and be a runaway winner on the night?

I agree it’s a layer’s price. But I like to play devils advocate with my own view.

Bex it’s because Judges "have been asked to judge the vocals, the quality and originality of the songs, the acts and the overall impression of the performance" I think they could well love Euphoria.

Nothing in Eurovision is really original but Euphoria stands out from the ballads. And I think she is a superb vocalist (even with her casual enunciation – maybe because of it).

Ok Henry its a shame there isn't a market on 'to top the jury vote'

I like Iceland a lot thats obvious to most on here. I may say look at the fan polls its doing well there to anyone who questions my musical taste. I have to therefore acknowledge there is obviously something others see in Sweden that I don't 'get' beacuse of its #1 in all the fan polls.

The thing is I have played Euphoria to several family members and via Skype to many friends over Europe. My incentive to listen to a list of 6 or so songs is that 'I'll stick a free bet on the one you like the most' Laugh

Didn't mention the odds or anything to influence them. Only 1 chose Sweden

The songs were Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Germany, Romania and spain if you were at all interested Cool

Lena topped the jury vote.
Euphoria meets the juries supposed criteria much more than Lena did. So I see no reason why Sweden can't top the jury vote.

Do you mean like Azer did last year?  Either Sweden will win the jury vote or there will be a midge's d1ck between 6 of them. Then its down to the viewers.

I'm hoping this will follow Melodifestvalen where Loreen laid down the marker in the semi and then knocked it out of the park in the final.

No reason not to and believing it will are 2 different things obviously. You have mentioned a few times you think Sweden may run away with it therefore my conclusion has to be you believe it will top the jury vote. Is that in fact the case?

You implying Azer ran away with it George?  A runaway victory is like Rybak's imo

Germany doesn't surprise me at all.

As for Sweden I believe it's capable of topping the jury vote.
They are clearly influenced by commercial success. As lena showed.

Ok I'll agree its capable of being 1st with the juries in the way that I would say its incapable for Russia Silly

Sweden with one vote placed it 4th of 6 - 2 did worse. Norway and Spain

Azer won by 32 points. Decent win though squeaky bum time for backers till the last few results. After laying off too much last year in running I might hide the old laptop this year.

i've not said a lot about Sweden myself so here's my thoughts for what they are worth...firstly the staging is extremely dark as are the performers costumes...the female singer is really quite unattractive and the male dancer is fat(perhaps both are reasons for the darkness).
the chorus is catchy but the song overall is rather dull for me...for this to be around 2/1 is absolutely ridiculous...i think this is highly overated probably due to that "Melodiefestival" thing they have in Sweden.

Italy topped the jury vote last yearm (by miles), with Azerbaijan 2nd.
