Police are planning to deploy 80 detectives for their criminal inquiry into the Post Office scandal, the Guardian has learned, but victims will face a long wait to discover if charges will follow.

What’s the point. They would be better off adding the c200 million cost of this to the compensation package.
But we live in a democracy and have to be seen to drag this on for years until it fizzles out and the CPS decide there is not enough evidence to pursue the 1 or 2 people who are still alive and compos mentas. |

So it seems ministers wanted to get rid of Vennels in 2014, because she didnt have a clue, perhaps she was telling the full truth in the enqiry, and that she just didnt know what the hell was going on , imo she was ceo in name only and just was incompetent

Either didn't have a clue or was that blindly loyal and institutionalised to the Post Office. I think she stated her main aim was to stop the Post Office costing the government as much money / make it more profitable, this definitely wouldn't have been helped if 100's of wrongful convictions were paid compensation. On top of that I think the accounting teams believed that the missing money went back into the Post Office profits. A lot of stuff may have been swept under the carpet previously, but when you walk in a room and the carpet is bulging and about 5 foot higher then the rest of the floor, then there is no excuse as CEO to not look under it and finally clean the house. |
