With the Belfast agreement the UK essentially relinquished absolute sovereignty over the province putting it in the hands of the electorate. I thought that May-Robbins colluded with the EU wishing to accelerate the process by accepting that control of the EU border was not something for the EU alone to arrange on their territory like any other customs border but that it was for the UK to set it up within our own territory outside of NI. There had to be agreement at the highest levels for something like this to happen, hence my conclusion.

Surely it is up to the electorate no matter where you are,the stacked deck resulted in murder, bombings and had to be resolved,30 years of it.
A lot more recent would be Domonic Cummins comments re NI, a view shared probably in the tory party particulary by the then right wing of it, it hasn't gone to plan though. |

"UK essentially relinquished absolute sovereignty over the province putting it in the hands of the electorate"
Sovereignty ......the term originally set up by the most appropriate "superanus" and barstewardised by the English kings ??? "Its spelling, which varied from the word's first appearance in English in the fourteenth century, was influenced by the English reign" Its a word used by the English to put others down , its on its way out thank the lord. |

Only a hate-filled bigot could turn an internationally recognised concept derived from Latin into an insane rant against the English. Well done.

no problem...not a bigoted approach at all
you obviously need to be educated about the negative effects of English language which originally vame from a country that decided to sail the world spreading their **** everywhere. The export of the British language constantly promotes inappropriate language in diverse settings. Both the process and content of the English Language includes values, traditions, and social habits that may not socially and culturally correspond with the environments. The imperialist English promoted the spread of the English language . A cancer that was spread across the world. Why is the bad sheep in the family "black" ?....... because of your racist language “When English is spoken by some Europeans, including for example French-, German-, Italian-accented English, they can be considered really cute, sophisticated, stylish and so forth,” explains Dovchin. But, she adds, English spoken by Asians, Africans or Middle Easterners may be viewed as challenging and unpleasant. Its not in any way a bigoted approach its recognised throughout the world as a negative ...... |

By:
Not to worry, the Aussies will be speaking Mandarin in 50 years' time.
Do you imagine that other languages are totally sanitised and have no racist terms? Do you think the nursery rhyme Baa baa black sheep is racist? Do you think that Asian people today learn English because of the long-gone British Empire? |

Jan Paisley liking the pressure on Donaldson tonight.
Him, wee Sammy and Doddsy all squeezing hard now from different angles. There will be no return this year it seems certain now. They are asking for billions, they are insisting on the 7 tests, and pushing for no 50 plus 1. He said effectively they won't return in an ice age unless Westminster takes as above and legislative change. It's undeliverable, framework will not be changed in any meaningful way. They will want to wait for Labour to get in now, more EU facing....? They will hold Donaldson feet to the fire. All the while economic Ireland(32) soldiers on with the EUROPEAN trade and Sinn Fein might be in power in those 32 counties. Now the loyalist flags are back and flying over police stations and the likes of Tesco. It's intimidation, it's chilling, it's disgusting, threatening people outside English businesses and applying pressure to police applicants, marking our territories with paramilitary flags of demarcation. It's getting dangerous again. The DUP and the loyalists are the same as the paramilitaries. |

Maggie was a remarkable woman ,
She had to face the nasty and belligerent anti - British elements nationalists and Leftists - they were nasty and belligerent then, are nasty and belligerent now And will be nasty and belligerent in the future |

By:
Remarkable she made things so much worse when the issue was political prisoners and criminals.
Remarkable she wrote the 1st chapter in making Sinn Fein go to the ballot box and look were we are today. I am not making a defence for terrorism but they (the hunger strikers) were used as political capital by her and it was shocking and cringeworthy then as it was on the telly the other night. |

The hunger strikers were used as political capital
by - the IRA If Thatcher pointed them towards the ballot box that’s something else we can all thank her for |

It’s a matter for the people of NI
If they are happy to see increased costs - due to the protocol That’s a matter for them .. of course Republican and nationalists are happy and don’t care about the damage it causes , their motivation is to destroy the U.K. However if political parties in NI are prepared to accept this , unionists should not return to Stormont .. that’s fine |
|
By:
Many thousands of jobs lost to Brexit these people were warned.
The response was we don't care, we just want brexit. Now they have it, time to move on. |
|
By:
In case you forget Brexit was a referendum
And no jobs have been lost in NI due to Brexit In fact NI and it’s people should have been in the most favourable position of any part of the U.K. - and wouldn’t have had to give up anything including the freedom to live and work in all EU countries - uniquely post Brexit . They had the best of both worlds ( an a great advantage on its hostile neighbour in the south ) Any sensible individual who was not blinded by sectarian political views would understand that … and that’s why Irish republicans and nationalists determined to be against it |
