The deal would avoid need for checks on products destined for NI

Great news if true well done .. just now a question if it is acceptable to the unionists
But hopefully a sensible conclusion , well done

and Tory Brexiteers

Until then no checks on British business between GB & NI
By:

When: 01 Feb 23 10:08
Why are there checks now?

Johnson told us there would be no border and we
could take paperwork to him and he would rip it up
and throw it in the bin.

If these reports are true then Johnson will have been proved correct , no ?
He knew we had to get out ( democracy ) and he knew if that meant bit by bit by hook or by crook
that was how he would do it . That’s how things work , in real life you have to test fly an aircraft and will fix faults that occur
Boris is a very clever man ..and knows how to get things done

The DUP will look carefully at the proposals
And will come to their usual good judgement
As Unionists and British their views on this topic are most important

Onside, this won't do it, they are too blinkered to change,

The DUP's "usual good judgement " just does not exist .  They backed loser after loser in the last 6 years ( and before that too) starting with their support for Brexit , despite the warnings as to how it would harm Northern Ireland .

Then faced with an unworkable and hard Brexit they sided with the ERG ( who are a pack of John Bull morons) and left the country with a hard Brexit .

Brexit damages the UK daily , it also damages the EU . If damaging the EU is a priority , it is a sad day all around . Growling at your neighbours is dog in the manger stuff .

‘ growling at your neighbour ‘ that’s not good .. I

I suggest you take your own advice , but then again
That wouldn’t occur to you would it ? ,,, quite amazing

The DUP/LCC/UDA/UVF will not be going back to Stormont as there is now a Sinn Fein First Minister, end of.
This is despite being for the protocol on the back of Johnsons lies to void it.

Scummy barstewards.
By:

When: 01 Feb 23 14:10
Lol there they go again .. there should be no rioting
and no violence of any kind either from nationalists or loyalists that’s a matter for the police
No preaching from republicans about rioting given their propensity for such
Oh and wasn’t the threat of much worse violence used by scummy Sinn Fein IRA to stop
the checks taking place .. in their rightful place , the south of Ireland
or perhaps if that’s too much responsibility for them somewhere in France

Is there not already long-standing customs checks between GB and NI even when UK was in EU - agricultural-related?

If its there already then the 'principle' the unionists are pontificating about is a bit silly to be honest.
By:

^ yet again we get an example of the hypocrisy of nationalists
Don’t expect others to do what you won’t do yourselves , ie put custom checks
their rightful place in south Ireland and the EU internal border .
Oh and don’t threaten violence if any such attempt is made .. and then don’t have the gall
to tell Unionists they are being a bit silly .
The nationalist mind and its really is a marvel to behold

NI businesses are doing better after staying in the Single Market than GB businesses are doing outside of it.

The only people who need major adjustments to the NI protocol are GB businesses who have lost markets in NI and the UK government and the Unionist politicians who find themselves completely banjaxed by the deal Boris Johnson freely negotiated, agreed to and signed.

I just thought I'd inject a little reality into this fantasy thread.
By:

It is best we stick to facts . Opponents of Brexit and Irish nationalists
have repeatedly claimed that the protocol has led to the NI economy out performing
the rest of the U.K. In fact the evidence points in the opposite direction and that once
the protocol came into force , in Jan 2021 , NI grew more slowly than in GB - by 5.5%
from 2021 Q4 - 2022 Q2 compared to 7.5% in GB over the same period
Other evidence also shows NI underperforming the rest of the UK as a whole since the start of 2021

Then there is the abundant evidence of additional costs imposed on NI businesses by the protocol
imposing large administrative burdens on NIs trade with its largest trading partner to favour its trade
with a much smaller partner the EU .. does not make any economic sense

That is the reality despite the propaganda from those who are hostile to the UK
By:
lfc1971
When: 02 Feb 23 09:53
And of course if there are any benefits to the protocol
These will remain .. but also with the additional benefit of
getting rid of administrative and other costs in trade between GB &NI
So as usual noblet isn’t making much sense

I never mentioned violence (last time I checked the only violence / threatened violence was at the new EU checks).

The only thing I pointed out was having all this disruption to governing NI, was because of the 'principle' of having no checks between GB and NI - but there already was checks pre-Brexit.

I was wrong, its not silly. Its pathetic. Time they grew up and faced a few realities instead of all this posturing to the detriment of their own people.
By:

When: 02 Feb 23 19:14
^ do you see how they wriggle
I didn’t say you mentioned violence - i had to remind you of the fact
that the reason the customs checks are not being carried out where they should
ie the the south of Ireland is because of the threat of violence
Now it’s best you stop being silly and tried to be honest
Wriggling like that is rather pathetic.

It really is baffling , nationalists refuse to accept customs checks — where they rightfully should be
And not a peep from the likes of wallflower
And then when unionists object to customs checks where they should not be wallflower suddenly pipes up , lol
