Mr Sunak increased NI because the PM wanted it. That said a lot about him ie he'd be bought to feather his own nest. However, he'd not resign over Partygate, but quick to jump ship over Mr Pincher. How absurd!

Green Card? Another astounding "quality" and "judgement"!!!!

Anyone picking up a lot of anxiety among the Brexit-headbanger faction about Truss?

Now, I don't read their newsfeeds but I detect the hand of Dominic Cummings in this.

"How many members needed to get that vote?"

According to the 1922 committee rules; Only 1,000 votes are needed to suspend the election of a new leader and reinstate the incumbent.

They've got well more than that so it's done deal.

1. All politicians deceive, brag, spin, distort and sometimes frankly have to lie [maybe  internationally with other political leaders who they may despise or hate - but in order to secure better deals, national safety, long term good, hostages etc]  - thats in the job description. I would argue that most do this with more subtlety than Boris - certainly Nicola and Keir and the rest ofthe Labour front bench do. 2. If Liz Truss is a lib dem mole - then she would soon face a no-con vote and be out, with Boris likely to return when the Tory MPs realise that Boris' fibs were not that bad in substance or comparison. 3. Is there anything to stop the 1922 committee re-instating Boris' name in the last part of this internal election [by voting themselves to change their rules] and would Betfair then have to declare these markets void since i do not see his name on the markets?
By:

I think you are in the realms of fantasy there.
By:

When: 21 Jul 22 11:37
No - just posing a question - the 1922 committee were close to changing their rules about no confidence votes had Boris not eventually offered to leave, so what's to stop them changing rules again: it's an internal Tory matter - however bad it may look to doa 'u-turn' - obviously the circumstances would need to deteriorate considerably for that to become an option but 7 days i sa long time in politics! Sure  likelihood is 'snowflake in hell chance' but i merely asked if anything could legally prevent this theoretically?
By:
politicspunter
When: 21 Jul 22 11:46
No need to change the rules. After Truss/Sunak are elected in just over a months time, then all Conservative MPs have to do is send in letters of no confidence to Graham Brady and the process begins again, with Boris included if he so desires in any possible future leader election.

By:

When: 21 Jul 22 12:11
Rudderless? Boris Johnson is still the Prime Minister. He will remain the Prime Minister until the next Prime Minister is chosen.
By:
Gagging
When: 21 Jul 22 17:58
Sure - but Boris himself said he's not intending any iniatives meanwhile [tho that wouldnt stop him normally!]. There really are a mountain of things that the government should be acting on, planning and progressing - obv the economy needs serious management with an early interim budget and reassurance for the most hard-up; Ukraine needs day to day attention; the coming strikes and wage deals need prophylactic care; climate change needs a revised strategy with preparation todeal with fires, flooding etc and of course helping to alleviate the cost and supply of energy. Despite summer recess these things need tackling along with the old chestnuts as NHS wait list, Policing needs, prison security, immigration control - none of these are satisfactory currently. At the root of all of these is a major underlying problem with the civil service  - Cummings is right that this is the source of major problems and wastage -I speak  as an ex civil servant - and it requires a total overhaul - the 'mind think' is on a par with the BBC and nothing  much can be salvaged without a massive cull of management, HR and executives.

Why the need to mention colour? What relevance does it have in this vote? Can't understand some peoples obsession with race.

Is the postal vote being run in a democratic way? As it is an internal matter for the Conservative party, no one outwith their organisation can know for certain the methods and practices used.

It's like multiple examples of white/non white candidates applying to universities at Oxford. Despite having identical qualifications, the white British sounding named candidate had a far better chance of receiving an interview than the non white foreign sounding individual. Perhaps ballot papers are being creatively sent to Conservative Party members using a similar system? There is no way of knowing for certain.

BBC R4 news had economist Gerard Lyons bigging up Liz Truss' new tax plans

They say Gerard is from the firm Netwealth

But fail to state he is part of the right-wing think tank Policy Exchange as well as a founder of Economists for Brexit

He studied under Patrick Minford

Earlier in the morning on BBC Radio 4 Today Liz Truss could only cite Patrick Minford as supporting her economic policy

So, naturally, for balance, the BBC bring on one of  Patrick's acolytes as economist number 2 but with no counter viewpoint
