US Presidential Election Settlement
Settlement of the US Presidential Election and related markets will not be completed until the result is beyond doubt and this may take some time. You can follow updates on our blog here. There is still some uncertainty around the outcome of the election, given the possibility of recounts and potential legal challenges. We must therefore wait until there is clarity around any ongoing recounts and any potential legal challenges to the results before we can settle all markets

I have money tied up in this but am thinking of shovelling a load more on for the 4% interest for a couple of weeks. There is no way this will be overturned the margins in the close states are in the 10's of thousands. Georgia is just over 10k and it wouldn't be enough if somehow the recount flipped it back to Trump. I'm assuming Betfair will not void bets given the market has been left open and they have many hours to suspend since the Press Association called Biden the next president?

Jucel is an intelligent man. He had the odd uncontrollable seethe that got him banned but he didn’t post meaningless drivel in a pathetic attempt to wind people up.

If the result was close and depended on the disputed close result in one state, it would be reasonable for any bookie/exchange to delay settling the market. It's not though.

Just to highlight betfairs incompetence there is another settlement rule in the winning party market

This market will be settled on the presidential nominee who is projected to be President based on the public vote. If there is any material change to the established role of President or any ambiguity as to who is voted in to occupy the position, then Betfair reserves the right to void this market at its absolute discretion. If any doubt exists as to the outcome of the election, then this market will be settled on the official public announcement of the election result from the Federal Election Commission.

So on these markets we have

CNN's announcement for popular vote

The projected electoral college votes for next prez

And FEC announcement for winning party

......

When: 08 Nov 20 10:55
rofl The FEC doesn't make any announcement. It only deals with campaign finance. That market is never getting settled.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency of the United States whose purpose is to enforce campaign finance law in United States federal elections. Created in 1974 through amendments to the Federal Election Campaign Act, the commission describes its duties as "to disclose campaign finance information, to enforce the provisions of the law such as the limits and prohibitions on contributions, and to oversee the public funding of Presidential elections."

The commission has not functioned since late August 2019, with an exception for the period of May 2020 to July 2020, to due to lack of a quorum.  Laugh

In the absence of a quorum, the commission cannot vote on complaints or give guidance through advisory opinions. As of May 19, 2020, there were 350 outstanding matters on the agency's enforcement docket and 227 items waiting for action. None of these related to the settlement of betting markets.

Bet356 have paid out. Joke that Betfair haven’t settled yet, but what else do you expect.
By:

B365 are paying out with their own money.
Betfair would be paying out with the money of losing punters, big difference, and even bigger in the circumstances.

Just be patient, you'll get paid out in the fullness of time.

Of course betfair can pay out.

Doubtless they will have a plan.

The projection of all states
might help them hit the button.

I have requested they add
Donald Trump for next weeks
Masters golf at Augusta.

He's got more chance of winning
that the amount of golf he plays
than winning next president of usa.

The thing is as well that you would imagine that they know that there is no chance that, based on their rules, biden isn't the winner. So, remember they suspended betting when trump got covid when they didn't need to? They obv decided it wasn't a good look in the USA where they want action. I reckon they don't want any "Betfair says Biden is the winner" publicity.
By:

When: 08 Nov 20 12:33
Agreed, but this is having the opposite effect whereby not settling is a tacit admission that they are buying into the ridiculous claims by Trump that a Western election IN AMERICA has been won by fraud on an industrial scale. Whatever happens now Betfair is the betting firm of Donald Trump and baseless conspiracy nonsense.

Sam Rosbottom from B/F has been on talk radio every day promoting this market, they were still running adverts for it yesterday.
I can't see this being settled before 20th Jan when somebody is inaugurated,  Biden could catch a dose of the covids and be replaced by Harris for president. 2 months is a long time in politics.

My understanding is that if anything were to happen to Biden (and bf are dragging this out) his votes would be "transferred" to Harris. Given betfair are making it up as they go I don't think we can definitively say Harris cannot win.

BF haven’t settled Sportsbook bets either, which presumably is their own money and no different to 356.
Makes me think it’s nothing to do other people’s money, and everything to do with BF being inept.
By their own rules the market should be settled.

I'd imagine that they simply don't want to get in to a situation where they receive a raft of complaints that they are applying different criteria between the exchange and the sportsbook.

Very frustrating for a lot of people, but not as unreasonable as some might think.

The market isnt settled due to allegations of fraud, it has nothing to do with " Biden not surviving". The reason Harris is in the running makes no sense as it states "This market will be settled according to the candidate that has the most projected Electoral College votes won at the 2020 presidential election" Harris got none

There are no credible allegations of fraud. Georgia might have a mandatory recount, the trump campaign hasn't officially asked for a recount in any state.

Betfair have settled 42 state markets without any of them being certified.

Well if Harris was named on the paper then that changes the dynamics of it... only the Americans need 4 days to count pieces of paper with a political system like this. That said, it doesn't really matter whether there were " credible " allegations of Fraud Davey, that's for the supreme courts in the USA to decide not some punter on betfair that wants paying out
By:
dave1357
When: 08 Nov 20 13:46
dream on - there is no chance that any fraud allegation will get to the Supreme Court. Very shortly the GOP is going to realise that trump's ranting is going to turn the centre right against them and give two Georgia senate seats to the dems.
